Buying the game
Hassat Hunter replied to parinho7's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
They will probably be for sale in high-market locations. I don't quite think Greece will fall under that though. -
Likewise... a non-punch combat encounter that lasts 10 minutes but gets me in the end is sure to annoy me more than any suckerpunch ever can. Having to revert 30 minutes due to autosaves will annoy me more than any suckerpunch (fortunately, there's no such thing here). Having to watch an unskippable animation after dying before I can get in will annoy me more than any suckerpunch. Like Sarex, what's the line?

The funny thing was I was reading a local newsbulletin about the riots in Ukrain and according to it the government in Kiev heavily accused the protestors for "bringing people in danger, upsetting the daily lives of people, organising disorder on a large scale and harming human health" And I was like... WTF? ARE THEY SERIOUS? Did they really said that? I mean, it's the whole US "You don't invade other countries in the 21st century" speech all over... except with an even shorter memory-loss period.

Hypocrisy. The only other option would be "It ain't democracy unless 200 people die!" but that would be rather scary a thought...

Mentioned this in another thread as some snide remark... but hey, it's actually rather good a suggestion, and might find a good place here How about an option that the loading screen (from savegame, not area) would instead of useful tips display one of the many randomly selected ways of how this was all DM generated hogwash. "It was all a dream, this really happened..." "In the last minute, a timebubble sucked up the last remaining party member, who was now able to inform his team and prepare better..." "Your wizards future spell had effect... now you know what NOT to do!" "Meanwhile, in OUR dimension..." "Fortunately, those were just your evil twin counterparts. Now the real heroes enter the fray!"

To be fair, it's beta of course, and noticable in UI, control and the bugs. Maybe it'll get better once all those things get fixed, like missing skills, broken skills, initiative actually working etc. Though since I'm not that much a TB fan, probably not enough to warm me up to it's combat element. Don't know. It does have co-op. If singleplayer the companion is either AI responded to conversations (which isn't in yet) or allows the PC to select his/her options. Which can lead to some odd discussions with yourself. But it's fun roleplaying 2 different characters. Definitely not how other co-op in SP is implemented bad...

It does? I thought it was the RPG-fan's wet dream. Especially seeing how bad combat is overall in RPG's (and this game is no exception). "Somewhere" would be wrong. Or maybe they fixed that now. Kills, quests, etc. give all NPC's XP. If a companion joins you that isn't exactly your level (s)he will get XP to get the same level as your PC's too.

16 hours of Original Sin and still haven't left the hub. Though I'm about to run out of stuff and have to go outside the city gates. Ofcourse it's not all good gameplay. Spend probably quite some time of that making my mega-buglist for Larian, the camera's rather annoying making navigation hard at times, and there's plenty of going back and forth talking to people, not helped by the size of the city. Now I know why they don't make realistic sized buildings in RPG's generally... it's just... too much!

Eternity Expansion style
Hassat Hunter replied to Sensuki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
This is... the third expansion thread in a month. What, the main game not good enough anymore? *is confused* But I pretty much said my preference in the others already, but let's repeat that... * New area with new storyline, adding stuff to basic campaign to fill it out and perhaps change painpoints noticed since release. -
It is... hover navigating around town can be somewhat of a pain with the camera zoomed in too much, no overview.

@ Karkarov; How about an option that the loading screen (from savegame, not area) would instead of useful tips display one of the many randomly selected ways of how this was all DM generated hogwash. Now the real heroes enter the fray!" Etc. etc. etc.

Really depends... on how much foreshadowing there has be. The 'they are bandits, they fight unfairly' is relayed somehow, and thus that same way some rumours could go around the boss is really an ancient magical being. It's all in the setup. As much as 'this makes sense!' it might not if not relayed, and 'it makes no sense!' might not be true if foreshadowed. All in all, the key is in execution.

Except this giant polymorphed red dragon just talked, and allowed you to walk away if you wanted without any combat at all. How's that a suckerpunch? Also, ingame technicalwise, I see no difference. It's both "fight vs. fire"... so why is one okay and the other apparently not, if the difficulty is equal?
-
Someone graciously gave me a Divinity: Original Sin beta-key, so reporting all the bugs I find to Larian while rummaging around. Looks pretty good so far, aside from TB combat . Fortunately, very little combat so far these first few hours I played.

Yup... I don't mind finding a high-level cave in a low-level area... it makes the game feel alive, realistic, and not like 'the more north you go, there more dangerous everything is'... get your ass super-kicked and return later when you've improved. The ONLY problem with that would be if a person would enter with Ironman mode. On his/her first game. But I really think making the game suitable for that will only ruin the overall experience, and lessen ways to make the game world alive and fresh and realistic. And yes, sometimes that involves getting your ass massively kicked... and not be sugercoated nd everyone tailoring exactly to your specific powerlevel (d damn you Oblivion!) @ Infinitron: Name a few of those strategy and tactical games then. Also I don't quite think that's the way one *want/should make* it to go, but of course that would be personal preferences.

I still don't want immunities to go away, be it that or "fire elementals cannot be harmed (or be healed!) by fire" rather than the modern favorite "fire elementals have like, 20% extra fire resistance. Blast them away with your fire-spells." Actually, some of that BG/old style goodness (if you mess up your damage, you might actually buff opponents) would be a welcome refreshment/welcoming back. I miss it
