Ok nerds, before I jump in: - How generous is the game re: skillpoints? Is it wise to invest in 3-4 magic schools for a spellcaster, or is that going too far? Likewise, Are hybrids (ie. adding magic to melee or ranged characters) viable? - Does the higher difficulty mean a good challenge or a tedious grind?
-
How is EU4, anyway? I really enjoyed EU3 back in the day, but every since CK2 and its extra layer of dynastic/political scheming, I'm not sure I can go back to that series.

I'm not sure why people are getting all upset over one person not liking the game based on a video (hahahahahaha), but anyway. I love the combat, but sometimes it'd be nice if there were a bit more clarity in terms of how exactly an action is going to play out. Sometimes when things are cluttered (which is ALL THE TIME based on how I play and area spells going off everywhere and OH GOSH NOW THE ENTIRE FIELD IS ON FIRE *AGAIN*), and the game isn't precise in showing off where exactly a spell will land and who exactly will get it. Sometimes I cast a spell where the radius covers all my targets, but for some reason none of them get hit (stupid boulder bash spell!) I'm about 30 hrs in and still finishing up the first map. Still having a blast. It's already my favorite RPG since Mask of the Betrayer.

The best thing about that is that it changes based on the environment. Genius! Haven't needed to recently since I got the healing spell, but I think just lying on any random bed will heal you up IIRC (I might actually be wrong, only did it once)

Anyway, I picked it up during the (now ended) Steam sale. Might be a while before I get to it, though. I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but there are too many RPGs on my backlog and upcoming, hahahaha.

Best RPG in the past 6-7 years by a longshot for me. You can just access all the recipes in the journal I'm not sure, but that wouldn't stop me anyway. Been pulling off heists with my coop buddy :D I agree. I'm surprised how greatly implemented the coop is. Hopefully this will open up other devs' eyes to the fact that online coop turn-based combat is actually a lot of fun. And yeah, while the writing seems fairly good, I haven't paid as much attention to it than I would have singleplayer, so less emphasis on it works more for this game imo.

Might & Magic X Teased by Ubisoft, To Be Revealed at PAX East

So what's actually implemented for this game, then? You just need to log into your Uplay (and thus have to be online) to play or something? -

Hey nerds, this game is 12 bucks on the Steam sale right now. How bad is Uplay, really? -
Let's see. Eternity Torment Wasteland 2 Dead State Trails in the Sky 1st and 2nd chapter (a JRPG *gasp*)

The combat system is SO GOOD. Love how the elements interact with the environment and each other. Gosh, I missed turn-based party-based RPGs. This year is going to be great.

THIS GAME IS AMAZING A MUST HAVE FOR ALL RPG FANS IF YOU CALL YOURSELF A RPG FAN AND DON'T OWN THIS GAME I WILL PERSONALLY HUNT YOU DOWN MYSELF It's also pretty fun and co-op (and I imagine just as good in singleplayer anyway)

Wargame: Red Dragon (preorder beta) So. Freaking. Good. I'm seriously addicted to deck-building, and the gameplay is so tense/fun. My favorite RTS series, definitely (essentially because it just does its own thing, rather than trying to be a standard RTS)

(I thought you guys were RPG nerds...?) BLACKGUARDS is out now

Well, anyhow, the demo combat was good enough to sell me on the game. Just purchased! I quite like how comprehensive character creation looks, too. -
Sam's DLC is actually pretty rad. Between double-jump, air-dashing, taunting and charge attacks, he plays pretty differently from Raiden. Found it harder, too. Bladewolf is not worth it if you have to pay. I found it a decent diversion, and the new boss was fun enough. You played on normal or hard? You should up the difficulty next! Select continue or chapter select instead of 'new game', otherwise you will reset everything in that save. Currently playing the game on Revengeance difficulty myself. <3 <3 <3 Rising

Seriously, no thread for this? Though, frankly, I don't know much about it other it apparently having a good turn-based tactical combat system (according to the codex hahahahhahahaha). Anyway, downloading the demo off Steam. Impressions to follow! Haven't played a WRPG in a while, maybe I should pick up M&M10 afterwards as well.

Yeah, I replayed Torment earlier this year (last time might have been 10 yrs ago) and I was surprised at how much I had forgetten about it. It was like revisiting an old friend, with a bit of familiarity but also (re-)discovering new things. A timeless classic. Currently, singleplayer-wise I'm playing Fire Emblem: Awakening. On the multiplayer side, I'm mostly cycling between Wargame: Airland Battle (Cold War 'RTS' with wargame elements), War Thunder (WW2 and early era jets flight game), and MechWarrior Online (as mismanaged as the project is, the core gameplay is still a lot of fun).

Any suggestions on a good CO-OP/Multiplayer RPG Game?
Llyranor replied to Failedlegend's topic in Computer and Console
I'll recommend you JRPGs if you like the format of Tales, rather than dungeon crawlers/hack-and-slashers/loot games (which would be lighter in story). Secret of Mana should be a blast for you. Get on it! It's on the Wii VC. If you want more Tales games, PS3 would be the best investment. Graces and Xillia are out. Xillia 2 is coming out in English next year. On PS1, there's also Destiny and Eternia (localized as 'Destiny 2'). I don't know too much about the PS2 ones. Careful not to burn out on Tales games, though. Final Fantasy 6 (3 US) can be played co-op, btw (but not the GBA version). Cheapest way to play it would be on the Wii VC. FF9 (PS1) as well, which should be dirtcheap nowadays. Bear in mind that the two FF games are 'turn-based'-ish (active time battle, officially). You have 4 characters on screens whose action bar goes up in real-time. When it's full, you can make an action. You do not move the characters around in real-time during combat. Co-op basically allows you to split the party to allow each player control of 2 characters. On 360/PS3, you can also grab Eternal Sonata, but I do not actually recommend the game (has nice music, though!). Actually, forget I wrote this line. And as much as I love the Infinity Engine games, the way the combat works made the co-op a pretty jarring experience. RTwP made coordination a hassle. Some of this may not apply if you're not in North America, though!- 27 replies

Hmm, that's pretty high praise for the combat given it's the Codex. Party-based turn-based? Oh boy! One of you crappers take one for the team and try it.

I'm enjoying it as a co-op Total War game (Nick as Sparta, me as Carthage). But yeah, AI is bad, AI turns are looooong, bunch of bugs here and there. But, overall, still enjoying it a lot. Haven't tried it since the latest patch, though.
