  1. You mean you have powers of basic cognition!? You must be some form of pro!
  2. Well you can just barge in there on lvl 16. It'll then turn out that the rumors of Doomie doom doooooooom were vastly exaggerated.
  3. God damn, Resident Evil HD is supposed to be short, not to take me over 10 hours to finish! I'm having a ton of fun tho, albeit I'm sure the HD remaster did a lot of things to refine the formula, it's quite apparent where did a lot of modern games look for inspiration (not just survival horror, there's a lot of Tomb Raider in here too. Tomb Raider came out after RE, right?) (Yes, I have still not finished it, altho I assume what I'm doing at this very point is tying up loose ends. Hopefully.)
  4. Okay, I just can't bring myself to finish Tyranny, in spite of it being a much shorter game than Pillars of Eternity was. Somehow it feels like it ran out of content halfway through and now it's just battle after battle - and I'm saying that as a fan of Pillars of Eternity
  5. Your negative. Someone else's boon. That's how it works with opinions, doesn't it? Fallout already has resource management in the form of ammunition, radiation management, permanent injuries, that kind of stuff - with more recent ones even adding food and water (well water was technically a thing in F1 too, but it didn't work much and I think it got patched out). As for why I, personally, would not like to see similar mechanics in all other games - well, that would be kind of boring, won't it? To push my favorite mechanic into all games ever? So that I can play the same game over and over? Personally, I just want PoE II to work with some form of resource management again as that's what I enjoyed about vancian casting in the original - and it seems it will. So... All is good. Hopefully.
  6. As much as I tend to dislike "Top x" threads, it's quite fascinating to see just how similar our lists look, yet on how many aspects of RPGs can a lot of us disagree. Just goes to show how incredibly flexible the genre can be I suppose
  7. At least when I increase strength in Pillars of Eternity I knows it means more powerful effects. It can means absolutely anything or nothing at all depending on class in ADnD. Both systems have issues with clarity - a person saying one is clearer than the other just suggests to me that said person spent more time with the 'clearer' one
  8. Ah, you were still talking about 6-sided. 'Cause JerekKruger was referring to 2 10 sided. Anyway, I see no reason why should we stick to 6 sides of a dice on PC. The percentile calculations was the smallest issue PoE had and it at least provided it with pretty great scalability. I mean sure, counting from 1 to 6 is simpler than counting from 1 to 100, but I might as well make an argument that the simplest solution is to just stick to '1' for everything - no need for counting whatsoever then.
  9. That... Didn't make any sense whatsoever. Have you ever played a board game calculating with actual percentile, i. e. 1-99? Dice are a terrible tool for that. Especially fun are the arguments about which die was representing tens...
  10. You can also pick the original costume, but this one shows the jiggle physics better. It's important to admire the hard work animators put into it y'know.
  11. Yes, you could choose color of your generic spell, shape of your generic spell and slightly tweak numbers for your generic spell. Amount of combinations is not the problem, combinations barely ever resulting in anything remotely interesting is. My usual combat goes along the lines of "Shoot blue bolt. Now red bolt. Now brown bolt. Now blue cone. Green bolt." And sad thing is that you can absolutely make a spell crafting system which operates with fun effects, or which results in entirely different results if you pick the right combos (see Magica. Yes, the system could absolutely be translated into turn-based game)
  12. It's an exceptional RPG developed by Black Isle studios, a bunch of whose employees ended up working at Obsidian. This being Obsidian discussion forum... Well, it's not much of a surprise, basically :-P Speaking of, 1.) Planescape: Torment for being the best RPG book 1.) Fallout for well-contained scope 1.) Pillars of Eternity for doing Baldur's Gate right 1.) Witcher 3 for being the best RPG movie ... I'm not very good at the "Top x thing" Edit: Oh and special award for RPG that's not quite an RPG with quality of writing as good as Planescape Torment while also not being a book goes to: 0.) Sunless Sea
  13. Well that's a strong prediction to make. Considering the sequel garnered 20k backers in 10 days even now when gaming KS campaigns are generally on decline due to people getting disillusioned, you'll quite likely get surprised about just how long will people remember the game. Except MCA wasn't all that involved in the original either now, was he? And it was a success for Obsidian, it was a critical success and it was extremely well received by general public too. Now none of that is necessarily indicative of quality of the final product, that's a very subjective call to make - but it has become one of my favourite RPGs of all time, something Baldur's Gate 2 (and 1 for that matter) quite simply failed to achieve for me. It didn't deal with any interesting topics, its setting was all over the place (because... Forgotten realms), there was no class balance whatsoever to be found and I never liked writing of the companions either. Now you probably disagree on these points and that's perfectly fine, but what is the most important thing to me is that Pillars of Eternity is not another Baldur's Gate 2 - being that is what would doom it to be a mediocre game never to be remembered because we already have one of those. You may not realize this, but trying to copy all aspects of another work of art will inevitably lead to an uninspired, vastly inferior product, as opposed to what Pillars of Eternity ended up being - a game with its own vision, based on games of old, not copying them wholesale. Naturally, you may end up disliking it. And that's fine. And to loop back on the original topic, that's why I don't particularly mind 5 member parties or any other of the array of changes which are being made to the formula - we already have a Pillars of Eternity and if history is of any indication, creating a carbon copy of it with different content would quite likely just lead to it being an extremely unremarkable game. As it is tho, we'll get another RPG in the vein of Infinity Engine games without being the same as any single one of them or as its predecessor - and that is a good thing. I can come back to existing games at any point. I don't, however, have resources to create a brand new one.
  14. I fixed that for you :-P No, it wasn't. That's what I said.
  15. There was 5 cRPGs released on Infinity Engine, 4 of which were wildly different (BG1 is very different from BG2, IWD1 and 2 are their own thing, PS: T is its own thing) I enjoyed Baldur's Gate for semi-open world exploration, Icewind Dale 1+2 for fun dungeon crawling and PS: T for excellent writing. BG2 dropped semi-open world exploration from the original and only kept the writing that I perceived as "Meh" so there you go. Luckily, PoE is mostly a mixture of BG exploration, IWD dungeon crawling and PS: T - styled writing, so I'm all on board there.
  16. "Success"? In most reviews I've even seen combat system mentioned (not that many, which would make it simply unremarkable), it's been mentioned in a negative light. There were some positive ones, but certainly not nearly enough to call it a "Success" Good reason for that mind you, the combat in Tyranny was dull as dishwater
  17. I'd definitely keep the book-like feeling in the bestiary with the hand-drawn picture and the description, but getting a magnifying glass beneath the picture that you can click to see an actual model would be rather neat too, actually. I mean, it's one of those 'Why not?' features.
  18. He wanted to launch a nuke but got confused and turned off power instead. He got bored and since Red Phone is powered by phone lines (that it's directly connected to), he called Russia to ask how are they doing.
  19. Tell Paradox and tell GOG, those are the ones who keep claiming it's the other one's fault. But considering there are no upgrade options at all for Tyranny on Steam, I'm beginning to think it might just be Paradox's fault.
  20. Y'know... This right here is why we don't get any visitors. (In case you can't read the text... N - Valley of Destruction S - Cave of Hatred E - Summit of Madness W - Path of Revenge)
  21. Yes Well then, Free to Play Asian MMOs are your dream genre. They're free, and you can spend thousands of hours with 9/10ths of a turd! Really, I think it's mostly all about just how much of your time are you willing to let the game waste. "But videogames are always a waste of time!" Everything is a waste of time, which is why I prefer when I get to genuinely enjoy that waste of time through an through as opposed to having to endure half a game to get to the enjoyable bits. I do that at work.
  22. For the first time I'm genuinely looking forward to news every morning. It's like a morning cartoon "Trump and Friends!" A friend of mine insisted that if Trump wins presidential election, at the very least it'll be funny. He was right. It's a fairly dark humor impacting lives, but he was right.
  23. Yeah, different folks and all that. I'm really curious as to what will Obsidian do with PoE2 now that they got a lot of feedback about original not being epic enough. We'll see. Oh I loved planescape. Stuff that I mentioned feels jarring to me because I had point of reference with stuff like Witcher (the books came out way back) or Lord of the Rings, whereas Planescape Torment was just completely alien. I like exploring new things. Besides, it was written a lot better - I'm quite looking forward to Numenera.
  24. Y'know... It looks pretty neat. Cool. Dope. Dope's the new word for cool, right?
  25. Revelations is the one with the tight swimming suit, right? Googles Right. I gave up on it earlier, but I 'spose I should give it another shot. RE1 first tho, never played it - I hope they put the second game through the jiggle treatment too.
