Solo runs all about the end?
Sethanon replied to Heijoushin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Solo is great. You dont need to avoid combats, I killed with my solo Rogue everything except one dragon. Boring? I dont think so, you can better "feel the character", you can imagine its you and you are playing just for yourself and not handling other 5 guys. Also you dont need to micromanage your inventory as much as you do with party, its easier with one character. It is similar to BG, but you will never end up as godlike like F/M/T with high lvl abilities ) Due to the lack of multiclassing, solo here is more difficult. Summoning tokens are absolutely "must-have" items. I cant imagine playing without them. To sum up, I like more soloing (whether in PoE or in BG), but with party its easier and it has nicer battles, -
Bounty entrance level
Sethanon replied to crutchy's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
And make sure you dont pick the 4th bounty in first four. That Ogres in cave in Elmshore. Firstly, clear Elmshore, clear the cave and after that go pick the bounty quest. Otherwise the cave will be VERY crowded -
Easter Eggs (and other secrets?)
Sethanon replied to mungomunk's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Well, I am not sure if easter egg, but now I am reading Tad Williams books (Memory, Sorrow and Thorn) and I think, that Sagani and her wolf is based on character from the book - small troll Binabik and his wolf 1. Both characters are small. 2. Both have wolves. 3. Both comes from northern/winter countries. Anybody else who read the books and noticed this? -
For example, when you clear the Expedition hall, you get Cloudpiercer bow, which is very good one. However if you clear Knights and Doemenels, there is nothing special, correct me if I am wrong. Is there anybody else worth killing? In Defiance Bay, Gilded Vale, Dyrford Village, Twin Elms... Like n IE games, there were NPCs with nice stuff you could pickpocket. Here, you cannot pickpocket them, just kill them

Finally got to Durgan's Battery
Sethanon replied to why's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Well to be honest Durgans Battery felt small to me. I would expect two more levels, but maybe I am just spoiled with Endless Paths And for me also the best dungeon/area from IE games still remains Severed Hand from IWD 1 From Pillars I would say probably....Dyrfords Crossing with the statue and the dungeon Its pretty big dungeon but not too big. -
Well mobs with Adra Dragon were only Xaurips, they didnt do anything to me. And when I was killing Alpine Dragon in pre-patch (it was during september when it was released) only one thing attacked me, it was some Blight and it also didnt do anything to me. I attacked Alpine Dragon from the left side, very close to the loot in that hole behind him. So other mobs didnt even see me. I finished them after I killed the dragon.

Camping and Food?
Sethanon replied to HawkSoft's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
For me, camping is good as it is now. It is MUCH better then in IE games. I wouldnt change anything. Food....too much micromanagement in party. I didnt use it before, but now I finally see it is really powerfull. Food is great when you play solo. It doesnt take so much time as in group of six. Before most big fights I buffed my solo character with +45 endurence, +10 atributes, +3 DR from food and drinks and it really makes most of fights much easier. -
Nice videos I also killed all the dragons with solo Rogue. Adra Dragon was VERY easy. I used Sap twice, and it stunned him for total of 18 seconds. Which was enough to kill him. However, Alpine Dragon seems imunne to Stun, I killed him before this newest patch, but now I cannot due to his immunity.

Could you write me some ideas how to play solo wizard? How to create it, what items and spells used...

Great location! Seems nice. Well I expect (and I am pretty sure) there will be: 1. Finding out what happened in Durgans Battery, find those demons and kill them. 2. Meet and kill that Leaden key expedition. 3. Find out who sent Torn Baner...to Concelhaut and eventually kill that guy. It will be probably some famous mage again and the location will be very similar to Cragholdt Bluff - only for high lvl party. If so, I am very interested ) I love Cragholdt Bluff fights. I would also expect: 4. Few more bounties. 5. Another dragon or maybe similar big ass creature, like some ice serpent. And of course some more sidequests, a dozen or so

Is Wizard still garbage?
Sethanon replied to Zherot's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I am interested in soloing with Wizard. Any of you did it? Isnt it difficult? In party, I never used wizard`s defensive spells, only CC. So I dont know if he has any "stoneskin" or "mirror image" - which were mandatory for solo wizard in IE games. -
Well playing with group is very big fun and is also a lot easier, especially with 2 wizards in a group (my latest game). However the best fun I had was with solo Rogue, dual wielding sabres, crit.dmg. oriented. I am playing for him right now for the second time. Soloing is little bit harder, but much faster (no micromanagement with the rest of the party, trying the gear for them and so on...).

Well, as someone who played IE games also a lot, I would recommend you to start on Easy, and later switch on higher difficulty. Mechanics and rules in this game are completely different and you will die a lot during first hours. I played my first time on Easy and then after half of the game I turned it on Normal. That was first time. Now I am playing on Hard because I know "how to do" things.

About max level - EXP cap
Sethanon replied to Sethanon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Well if only 25% makes it this good, it seems very nice. A would think you have to setup it for 50%. Anyway, I am playing now PoE+white march again, with party of 6 (NPCs all of them), so I am curious if I hit lvl cap as early as with my solo Rogue, or little bit later. -
About max level - EXP cap
Sethanon replied to Sethanon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
For those who says that its good that you can play your build for a long time before you hit end of the game. Well I believe, you had your "build" finished also in previous IE games pretty soon, maybe in 1/2, or in 2/3 of the game. Then you just got few more levels and got some more HP, some saving throws and so on. And the same could be here, in PoE. I agree with Tigranes, that most important levels are first 10, you pick the most crucial skills during that time. And after that, you just pick some skills, that are not neccesery, they just give you small bonuses. And the situation would be the same if max lvl would be lets say 20. First 10-12 lvls are the most important and then you could just pick some "meh" offensive/defensive skills. These skills are not crucial but they could be fine picking later. I mean skills like +10 fortitude/reflex/will, +10 against Charmed...and other attacks...and so on. I believe almost no one pick skills like that, because they are simple not so good. So I could pick some of them on my way to lvl 20, I would still feel rewarded and I wouldnt be so overpowered. -
I totally agree with: 1. Items - after expansion, it is now much better, but it can be even "more" better 2. More "boss" fights - something like bounties, but make some badass bosses with interesting abilities. 3. Fighting against wizards feels strange. In IE games, you had to breach their defense spells and then you killed them. In PoE, wizards just spamming AoE damage spells, they dont protect themselves a lot. In BG2, single high level wizard could destroy my party (with little luck). In PoE, no way. He would give me -10 deflection spell, maybe one fireball and then he is dead. So more wizard spell fights!

So far I played PoE 4x. Twice with full party, twice solo. Each time, I reached max lvl before I entered Twin Elms. I played now PoE+White March with solo Rogue. I have to say, it feels much better to play White March as part of PoE, rather than load an old save in Burial Isle and do a little Dtour... Max lvl was increased, which is nice, but only to 14. I was always dissapointed, when my characters reached max lvl and so many content was still ahead! I was always wondering, how much exp I am gonna "waste". So now, I decided to write every single exp I received with my solo rogue. Here is result: I played as solo Rogue on Easy difficulty. I did every quest, every bounty and I did also some companions quests (Eder, Kana, Sagani, Devil of Caroc(?)) I reached max lvl (14) before I even entered to these locations: Elmshore Twin Elms (4 maps) Northweald Temple of Hylea Longwatch Falls Durgan`s Battery Cragholdt Bluffs (So you can figure out how many quests I didnt finished (or even start) before reaching max lvl.) My rogue entered to around 70 (+-) new locations/maps (you know, buildings, rooms...), he disarmed around 100 traps and picked around 50 locks. Total number of "wasted" exp is....92 000 (+- 1000). Yes, I know, this number is VERY(!) similar to a max level exp which is 91 000, which is funny. 92 000. That is a LOT. I always thought, that hey, I could reach at least 2 new lvl`s! After I did this math, I see that I could reach with no problems lvl 20. I understand, that solo advance better than full party, but only a little. Those of you who played with party and with solo can agree. With full party, I expect lets say around 80 000 "wasted exp". This is very demotivational. When I reach max lvl I always feel bad for not being able to receive some "reward". Thanks god there are some talents in Twin Elms you can receive (I think 3 or 4) regardless of exp or max lvl. This game is compared to old IE games, which I played (still playing) a lot. Lets have a closer look about max lvl in there: BG1+datadisk - Max exp was 161 000 which means different lvls for all of your party. You could reach max lvl with your party of 6 at the beggining of datadisk - which also wasnt really good (very similar to PoE). BG2+datadisk - Max exp was 8 000 000 which means different lvls for all of your party (31-40). You COULDN`T reach max lvl with your party of 6. Even as multiclass solo, I wasnt able to reach max lvl for ONE playing. IWD1+two datadisks - Max lvl was 30 for all of your party. You COULDN`T reach max lvl with your party of 6. You reached only around lvl 22 for ONE playing. IWD2 - Max lvl was 30 for all of your party. You COULDN`T reach max lvl with your party of 6. You reached only around lvl 18(!) for ONE playing. As you can see, PoE is closest to BG1. Which is the oldest. You reach max lvl and one third of the game you receive nothing Other 3 games have way higher max lvl, which means that you can do all the quests and you are still rewarded. In PoE it is just not fun, when you are playing without getting exps. I always feel that I shouldnt even do sidequests, when I dont need exps and just go end the game. It doesnt feel good and it shouldnt be like that. Some of you say that if there was higher lvl, characters would be overpowered. Ok, I take that, lets see how it can be "fixed". 1. You can change game difficulty to hard. 2. Obsidian can do the same thing IE games did, that after certain lvl you will not get the same bonuses. In IE games it was for example lvl 9 for fighter. Until this lvl, fighter got 15 HP/lvl. After this lvl, he got only 3 HP/lvl. You could do something very similar. The cap lvl for this could be lvl 12, or 14, or whatever you want. Or you could do, that after this certain lvl, player wouldnt receive anything (endurance, life, deflection, accuracy bonuses) BUT he would be able to pick only some ability. 3. Think about something else if you dont like first two options ) Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to some up all of these ) I hope, that in not-so-far future, we will see max lvl raised, or someone will introduce EXP cap remover (working one!) which enable at least lvl 20. For content which we have now. With White March 2, it could be even higher.

I found in White March with my solo rogue cloak, which gets +12 deflection and grants Invisibility when you are hit, or critical hit. Dont remember the name though. I was using it only maybe two hours, but happened to me twice this: When I was hit, Invisibility triggered, and after it ended, enemies still didn`t attack me. This happened with undead guards before Cragholdt entrance and the same happened to me while final boss fight with Thaos. I killed one guardian, then the second guardian gave me critical hit. Invisibility triggered. I drank two potions and started attacking the guard. He didn`t do anything, he was just waiting to die for like 15 secinds. Then I approached to Thaos, who was just standing there and also died in 15-20 seconds, without defending himself. So either is this cloak really good, or it is bugged a lot A guess the second option is right. Also, other thing/bug with rogue invisibility. When I pause the game and I hit Invisibility ability and lets say I decide I dont want to use invisibility, but lets say crippling strike, I am unable to cancel it. If I select different ability for rogue to use (cripploing strike), or I cancel all his actions through button on main HUD, that bastard STILL uses invisibility as the first thing after I unpause. So I have to be always very carefull when I am selecting abilities for him in combat, otherwise I "waste" this cool ability when I dont want to.
