Good story? No. Great quest design? Yes. Larian has always had pretty good design but their actual writing was never good. They're kind of like Piranha Bytes that way.

DA2's been roasted for everything from reused assets to playersexual romances, but the problem it really has and the reason I didn't enjoy it is because it lacks a main plot. The story is a series of unrelated events (unless you count the fact that these events happen in the same city and that Shepard Hawk was involved automatically makes them related). The writers even knew that they didn't have a central plot which is why they slapped on a frame in half hearted support of 'Hawk is the common thread' argument. The main thread of a story doesn't need to be 'the world is ending' as it so frequently is with BioWare games, but there does have to be something that ties the beginning of a story with the conclusion so it feels like, well, a conclusion. DA2 doesn't have one and that's the real reason it got so much hate even if players were incapable of communicating that.

Aside from POE3, it's almost guarantied that the spin-off games will be in a different sub genre. Which sub genre is anyone's guess as they've already established classes and classes don't always work outside of turn style, RTwP, or at least party based combat. I doubt they would throw the class structure they've built and expanded on out the window just because one game didn't perform well.

Cyberpunk is currently set for release late summer or early autumn. Unless either game delays into 2021 while the other stays put, I don't see how VTMB2 isn't going to suffer in sells due to Cyberpunk. Ironic given that VTMB2 and 2077 were both supposed to come out in spring and VTMB2 announced first their delay.

VTMB2? It was delayed awhile ago. Now looking at digital store fronts you'll see it set for December 31st, 2020 which is short hand for "we're in alpha and we have no idea how long bug squashing is going to take".
