The Athenaeum - Reading updates and Literary Review from the Obsidian Elite (this means you)
The wuxia resurgence of the 50's was centered around Hong Kong. Which can explain where the earlier examples of that mentality came from. As far as I know, wuxia is still very much a Hong Kong genre but Chinese entertainment in general does seem to follow the same formula you describe.

What Are You Playing Now: The New Beginning Thread
I'm about 25 hours into a replay of Elex. I'm mostly done with Edan and Tavar and thinking about heading to Abbessa now that in terms of character strength I've finally gotten over the hump and don't have to run from every fight. Last time I played I joined the clerics. This time I'm thinking about joining the berserkers. What's surprising to me is how much easier the game is on a second playthrough. Mostly 'cause now I know when to run and when to fight and I'm not banging my head against a wall as much trying to do one quest. Instead if I can't beat a boss for a quest, I move on to the next one on the list and keep going and come back to it later. You know, like how the game is designed to be played. 😂

While I am excited for the game, the best thing about this teaser is introducing me to an indie blues artist.

Funny Stuff: A New Hope
18/24 I read tLotR once, the Hobbit a few times, the Silmarillion, and the whole History of Middle Earth encyclopedias (for lack of a better term) and while I've never been on antidepressants, many in my family have. Now that I think about it, the only official Middle Earth related material I haven't read are The Fall of Gondolin and Beren and Luthien. Both of which are told in the Silmarillion anyway if written in the style of a historical text rather than as a novel.

The first 50 give you skill points to buy or upgrade abilities. Beyond 50 are champion levels and leveling earns you champion points which act kinda like the constellation tree from Skyrim with giving buffs rather than abilities.- What Are You Playing Now: The Other, Other Thread

Wrapped up my speedrun of Cold Steel 2. Despite skipping dialog, using turbo mod, and bypassing some fights it still took me 38 hours. CS2 is easily the weakest of the kiseki games but still really good. Mostly it just suffers from a combination of open world syndrome (even though it's not open world; they connected the hubs of the first game with linear paths) and middle book syndrome. I didn't pay enough attention to my resources to make the perfect save game state for my upcoming mega series playthrough but I'm close enough.- Pictures of your games, lucky #13

I'm pretty sure it's 'cause they didn't initially plan to make DLC considering the last few games they pre-approved the production of DLC the extra content didn't sell well and with Tyranny and Deadfire the games themselves didn't sell well.- R@nd0m V1d30 G@m3 N3w5
