Can we get sales numbers?
Kilburn replied to Labadal's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Sounds like hogwash to me. We dont know how much they actually put into each game. Pillars looks to have a much higher budget than wasteland. Graphics, art and animation was quite terrible in wasteland and it had few quality of life features. The same cannot be said about Pillars. They also delayed Pillars to work on it more. Wasteland was shuved out the door. Pillars even has new art for different QUALITIES of armour. Regular leather armour looks different than fine leather which looks different than exceptional leather. Armour doesnt even show up on your characters in wasteland! Can someone enlighten me as to how wasteland would cost more than Pillars? Because for me, it's not adding up. -
This is a great game, but ....

I always find peoples' opinions interesting. I loved DA:O, liked Divinity:Original Sin a lot, and thought Wasteland 2 was fantastic (I played through to the end 3 times, to the end of Arizona 6 times, and part way through California 3 times - all in rapid succession). Sadly, I found Pillars to be just decidedly average. There were some great aspects to it, some really crap aspects, and it left me with an overall 'meh' impression. I don't regret backing it, and would back another Obs kickstarter in a heartbeat (but not at the same pledge level), but I did not find it came close to my expectations. I thought Wasteland 2 was far superior. I tried out wasteland soon after it was released and it was a shell of a game. The updated version with the perks added and everything polished might be a good game. Pillars will get better and better with time hopefully. -
Defender 2.0 beta nerf
Kilburn replied to limaxophobiacq's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
FTFY. It's "better" except for how shields have a scaling enhancement bonus and a talent that buffs both Reflex and Defense. Which is to say that it's not better at all. It depends. If you just want a meatshield that stands around in doorways not hitting anything while the rest of your party uses ranged weapons then ya, shield is better. That play style was so terribly boring though. My hatchet paladin was pushing 90 deflection at around level 4 or 5 and could rip stuff up in melee. Flame of devotion is also a full attack style so both hatchets strike with the bonus. -

Dual wield hatchet is better than using a shield. You can keep quite a bit of offensive power and still pump up deflection. And that rending hatchet guarded by the lions is fairly easy to get and quite powerful. -

Man, from what you just wrote up... I dont understand why are you even on this forum. It seems you dislike games like pillars. I thought I wouldnt like it because the other indies/kickstarter games I tried were so terrible and overhyped. But Pillars is awesome. Pillars and Dragon Age Origins are the only single player RPGs Ive enjoyed in the last decade. You shouldnt say Original Sin and Wasteland 2 are like Pillars - that is pretty insulting to Pillars. -
Offensive Fghter

If the defender nerf goes through as is, offensive fighter will be the most viable fighter build.- 13 replies

Origins was a great game. Maybe even a bit better than Pillars. It was a bit more polished. But pillars is also awesome and has so much potential. DA 2 was garbage and i didnt even bother but it sounds like DA 3 was more of the same crap. Original Sin I thought was buggy and weird. I didnt enjoy checking 200 vases and picking up random garbage that I had no idea what it was used for. When I got to the first city and started talking to the NPCs i started to dislike the game even more. I found it to be very weird, stupid and confusing. Wasteland 2 was terrible. But Im curious to check out the game of the year edition when it comes out. It sounds like they have been working hard to make it into a game worth playing. -
[Suggestion] Granades?

Defender 2.0 beta nerf

Wow they added immunity. That could make potd really really hard. I like it. Except I hate getting stun locked by wind blights lol. -

Well rework and rebalance traps then. Make traps more viable. No grenades please lol. For the love of god no grenades. -

What else did they change? Or they just brutally destroyed defender and left everything else untouched? Is there a list of all the changes yet? This heavy handed approach is kind of disappointing. I was hoping they would tweak everything and bring better internal balance to the classes. -

Well we have totally conflicting ideas OP. Graphics are perfect as is. Voice acting I don't care much about. tactics I care even less about. I love pausing and having full control. I Never used any tactics in dragon age origins. In these types of games it's always the first thing I toggle off. I find party AI very annoying. I would spend extra money on internal class balance. Some of the abilities are too useless and it would be nice if everything was at least viable. Higher level cap and more abilities. Better crafting system. And deeper. Better deeper skill system with more skills. More animations for combat skills. More fatalities besides the gibs thing. These not really necessary but would be cool. -
Defender 2.0 beta nerf
Kilburn replied to limaxophobiacq's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It's not actually -20 deflection. The 2.0 version is -5, but I'm assuming people are counting in the deflection gained from the pre-2.0 ability for some reason. It is -20 compared to what it is currently. If this 2.0 change sicks, they made it garbage. The 2.0 version would be garbage for 1 slot. For 2 slots it is just.... yeah. bad, really really bad. -
Motivation after the Level Cap
Kilburn replied to Ickis99's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Im not sure exactly what you're saying but: I play for theory crafting, trying out different builds, trying out different combinations of abilities, beating the hardest difficulty, making the most powerful character possible, etc. Leveling too fast just spoils all of that fun. Pillars has fairly deep combat and character building which is the only reason I bought it in the first place. If it was like wasteland2, i dont care how good the story is, I would have skipped it. -
But... it is all we ever asked. ( This dual wield stuff sounds dndish. Having "guy with a bow" is ok, since some players just like to pew pew. And pet is a tool to body block/cc badies from your squishy. There are other classes and many of them could be dual wielding in various flavors up to personal taste. Also the guy with the bow itself opens several build options: - You concentrate on tanking with pet or dps pet or minimal pet - Yo concentrate on CC with either pet or own bow - You concentrate on steady dps or single target burst - More single target or more aoe So there are options, and there are already abilities/talents allowing to go for it. However there could be more, and some important are missing (one connected with healing animal companion since that things takes a lot dmg). If someone MUST play ranger 2wf can always pick 2wf talents (there is not as many of them) and pick pet based/utylity abilities. Start combat with pistol wouding shot and switch to dual sabre/stilletto with Hunter Mark. So? A lot of their "class flavor" shall we say is lifted from DnD anyways. special Dual wielding abilities would be interesting and add build diversity. You're happy with "select next bow ability and shoot stuff", that's ok. For me that is not thought provoking or interesting. Maybe give the ranger lesser sneak attack, allow wounding shot to be activated with a melee weapon, etc. The class is boring ATM. And Drizzt is cool. I mean they already lifted "pale elves", might aswell lift ranger dual wield also.
-
I found ranger to be pretty boring and lacking in build diversity. A dual wielding specialty line of abilities would make the class more interesting.Or allow their ranged abilities to also be used in melee. Right now he is just "guy with a bow" kind of a thing, and you cant really deviate at all from that.

Defender 2.0 beta nerf
Kilburn replied to limaxophobiacq's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Ya, wow, -20 deflection, why dont they just delete the ability from the game? lol. make it Defender: +3 deflection +2 targets engaged +1 damage reduction wary defender: +3 deflection +6 other saves Still good, but not as overpowered as the one now. -
Defender 2.0 beta nerf
Kilburn replied to limaxophobiacq's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Some of them do stack like the rogue reckless assault with any of the generic ones of your choice. Others wont stack. It's a mystery. Anyways, it sounds like this has been nerfed into unplayability. Even with high defences it doesnt seem to prevent you from being stun locked by call lightning and wind elementals. The +5 is kind of useless compaired to the deflection lost. -
Motivation after the Level Cap
Kilburn replied to Ickis99's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I noticed leveling was WAY too fast when I got to defiance bay and was seriously over leveled for the content. The IEmod to increase the exp to level by 25% and 50% should have been included in the main game. Then everyone is happy. Also an option to reduce gold by 25% and 50% should be added. They hand out exp the same way they hand out gold - too much. -
The classes are all totally different. Crank up the difficulty maybe and you will be forced to use your classes to their full potential. I can agree with you on the skill system. It is not very deep or well developed and actually feels tacked on. Probably it was rushed. But atleast they are adding individual stealth so there will be more than one useful skill (mechanics and a couple points in athletics is all you really NEED at the moment). But the rest is all wrong. Priest and paladin are totally different. Priest is a very strong, warding seal is borderline broken and so is iconic projection if you have 3 or more priests and spam it.
