  1. Why is food so overpowered? It gives giant stat increases and has massive duration for no reason. Strange that most potions only last 20-30 seconds but food always lasts for several minutes. I think the whole thing should be canned and food should only restore some small amount of Hit points when consumed. The best most expensive food could restore a moderate amount of HP. The dragon meat or whatever could MAYBE give one other small bonus.
  2. Wait, you would use a cipher without charm or dominate? I never needed to use them. Combat even on POTD is unbelievably easy. If you have 2 tanks and four casters armed with arquebus's you generally won't even need to cast any spells. My typical party consisted of Fighter Fighter Cipher - arquebus Mage - arquebus Priest - arquebus Druid - arquebus Combat was insanely easy. Casters shouldn't be able to use fire arms or bows like fighters and rangers do (like you can't in baldurs gate). 90% of fights you just position your tanks maybe cast 1 spell (wave) then peg everything off with you firearms, pathetic I reckon. Makes ranged classes like rangers completely pointless when a caster can do the same almost as good. The first 4 levels are beautiful in terms of difficulty on POTD. I didnt expect that at only level 7 the game would degrade into a mindless faceroll. If I knew that I would have strongly considered not buying it. But there is still time, maybe everything will be fixed.
  3. I never tried amplified wave but repulsing seal was rediculous. So, do immunities bring these spells into line or are they still broken? (Im not playing POE at the moment)
  4. welcome to pillars spells. they either break the game or do practically nothing.
  5. Wrong a pure thief doesnt get use any item until level 24 becasue you need 3 million exp before you can take TOB high level abilities. Aside from proficiency thief cannot backstab with two handed weapons. It is pretty useless.
  6. Ok, now im convinced youre playing a different game. They dont automatically shuffle behind enemies. They have a stun ability and you have to manually sidestep around your target then backstab them which I loved. And the speed of the rogues backstab animation increases along with attack speed. Backstabs do not take longer to execute than regular attacks. Did you know that you can make a strength based rogue, wear heavy armour and backstab with two handed weapons? And that two handed weapons have their own backstab animation? That play through was so much fun. Tthe last bit youre calling me a GFX whore... not really, I was quite happy with pillars graphics. Do I think Pillars would be improved with more varied animation for some of the special attacks and more diverse death animation besides "gibs". HELL YES. Video games are art. and art is all about the small details.
  7. Origins was a game made for PC and ported to consoles, not the other way around. The PC version had to be modified heavily to accomodate consoles, consessions had to be made. The PC version was the best version of the game in this case. Maybe youre thinking of the second game? The second game was a piece of ****, maybe we can atleast agree on that much.
  8. When the camera was not on the highest zoom, you could only control one unit at a time and you were locked to their perspective - what kind of bullcrap is that? Unit movement is super clunky, and movement in combat is not tactical, you just run up to something and start clicking away. And lol animation and sound effects, what about the awesome button? Aggro switching, tactical retreating, dispelling, counter-spelling, movement and positioning somewhat matters, lots of other stuff. There are lots and lots of different ways to beat encounters in BG2 especially. If you're discounting the combat because you rest-spammed so you could use per-rest spells every fight then you only cheated yourself out of a fun time bud. You run up and start clicking away? Its a video game! you play with a mouse!?!? It was very tactial I remember using all kinds of interesting strategy and pausing constantly to defeat powerful enemies like revenants on the hardest setting. Movement and positiioning matter. To backstab you need to be behind the enemy. Backstab has a fun and awesome animation. I'm not sure what game you were playing? Who needs to rest spam? you can cast all the spells a million times. tactical retreating? lol, im pretty sure you can run away in basically every game there is. trying to make it sound fancy isnt helping you. herp derp dual class wizard fighter. stack up -20 armour. tensers transformation. so tactical. herp derp.
  9. Yes... as opposed to run around with dual wielding dual classed guys with haste and other buffs and slaughter everything really fast like in BG2. You loaded up on overpowered wizards. It is what it is. Play again with rogues/fighters and get back to me. And every drow in the underdark you fight is totally different and an awesome unique encounter right!?
  10. I have no idea what youre whining about. Camera, movement etc was all just fine. and slaughtering darkspawn was awesome because the animation and sound effects were actually good, unlike BG2 and the stupid "gibs" crap. What tactical variety did BG have? Pre buff a lot and run around killing everything? Time stop? please... The only real thing wrong with origins was that spells were way too overpowered. Especially ones like cone of cold and fireball. That and DLC items were overpowered.
  11. Yes it did. I played both a bizillion times. My god was i blown away when i first played origins. No contest really. Maybe you played on the playstation and only play your games on easy or something. IDK. Either way, youre wrong.
  12. What is so great about IE combat? Dragon Age Origins DESTROYED BG combat on every level.
  13. POTD. by the time you hit level 5 you can do most of the fights with your eyes closed.
  14. I was all excited to play arcanum until i got in game. good lord what is up with those graphics? legend of zelda for super nintendo looks better than that...
  15. The game is chock full of borderline useless and under performing spells. With a few borderline broken ones mixed in here and there. Im almost tempted to get in game, start testing and do a full write up of all the ones that suck. I guess they tried to copy baldurs gate here? Not a good thing to copy in this case.
  16. My POTD offensive paladin build used dual hatchets. He was almost as tanky as a shield deflection fighter but hit like a truck. That +10 deflection at hardly any disadvantage is way too good to pass up. it does make me sad though because.... hatchets.
  17. In wasteland 2 you have to conserve ammo and medical supplies. Pillars could use some reasorce management.
  18. I couldnt click through durances stuff fast enough tbh. It felt like trying to read a school text book. I wasnt sure what the point was or why all of this was being unloaded so soon into the game. Usually NPCs talk about stuff that is immediatly happeneing in the game not all this random stuff. Maybe if CA wrote the whole game everything would click and make sense but as is his NPC are kind of out of left field.
  19. Sounds good to me. How about making camping supplies finite in potd - they never restock. And all inns are closed for renovation. That would sure shake things up
  20. I think the combat is generally really good. I don't understand the point of the double health bar system or why it is better than the traditional way. I also don't like per encounter and per rest. The stamina system from origins was much better. Just let us stack as many modals or use as many abilities as we want if we have the stamina for it like in origins. Obvs it won't happen for this game but maybe for pillars 2. Or if you think that would be super broken like for paladin modals just specifically state that only one aura can be active at a time.
  21. I didn't care for any of the characters in pillars tbh and quickly switched to an all custom Party. Origins had decent Characters. Morrigan especially. Planes cape and BG2 had great ones too ofc
  22. Some changes are close to a complete overhaul actually. Individual stealth and perception switches from deflection to accuracy are huge changes. If they are making changes like this obviously they have a ways to go in terms of developement in my opinion. I want to play the finished product. It has nothing to do with powerbuilds and everything to do with waiting to see if the game gets it all together. Exp still hasnt been addressed. Gold doesnt look like it will be addressed. The game cant follow its own rules: things like this annoy me. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/83035-203-zealous-focus-suppresses-blessing/ White march makes it even easier, well im glad I didnt it buy it then because thats the opposite of what Im looking for. I finished Origins. I cant be bothered to finish POE. It gets too easy too quickly.
  23. If a player is engaging in end-game content and still having to "scrounge" (eg, manual labor) to survive, then either the game needs an overhaul or the player is just a crappy gamer. A quality gaming experience should challenge the player through creative design, not make things harder via resource exhaustion. That's a cheap cop-out. I have no idea what youre trying to say here. None of this really applies to POE. Are you saying that the fact that you can get to level 8 and near unlimited gold in the first act of the game is a good thing? There is no end game content in this game. This is not WoW. The journey is the destination.
  24. lame. I guess the ie mod alpha is to blame. Or maybe overwritting old ie mod with the new one is finally messing things up.
  25. Id like to know this as well. Id also like to know why some modals stack whereas others do not. I ve been testing them all (rogue and fighters with savage, vulnerable and cautious) and I cant find any rhyme or reason to it.
