Anyone else just waiting?

I think POTD, 50% exp nerf IEmod and limited to maybe 2 or 3 characters will probably be tough as nails all the way through. Maybe linear progression exp. Does anyone know if you can still cap out at max level using linear progression? Probably 3. With 2 or 1 character I think I will just get sluaghtered over and over or I will have to really abuse the mechanics to get anywhere. -

Doesn't that describe pretty much every damned CRPG ever made though?Thinking about it.. might and magic 6 and 7 stayed pretty consistent. Especially Mm6 was hard all the way through. Final fantasy 7 had emerald and Ruby weapon. They were tough. BG2 throne of bhaal acension mod. But you do have a point. -

Imo To play on potd you should have to scrounge every bit of exp and copper just to survive. I really hate it when the game get easier instead of harder as you progress. Xcom had the same problem. -

I'm surprised the exp hasn't been addressed yet. You could get to level 8 or 9 in act one alone. -
Story/setting

Origins was great but it gets lazier as you progress. Denerim feels like there was virtually no effort put in when compared to the Dwarven place and the dungeons undrneath it. -

Why does everyone keep putting stabilize in quotation marks. Ive been playing too much of a stupid card game that I hate called hearthstone. Leave me alone. lol -

Agreed. When someone asks if they should wait til the game "stabilizes" before playing, it can be compared to asking if they should wait until there are no more cars on the road until they drive. That makes no sense. They are working on it. Meaning it will be BETTER and more fun if I wait. And if I start playing it now I might get bored and I won't want to do another run later. In your case then, perhaps a better analogy would be: should you wait to buy a car until the manufacturer is finished making new models and upgrades? lol They are investing their time into it and trying to make it better. That is not an affliction that is a good thing. Nerf buff is fine. Broken is broken. Just because BG2 didn't care doesn't mean all other games need to remain broken. As fun as casting time stop was with a dual class fighter wizard was and slaughtering everything (it did get old quickly even back then). I'm over that. Some balance is welcome. PoE is not broken. If you think that you will get bored with the game in its current state, then I seriously doubt any of the upcoming updates will be so drastic as to guarantee boredom will not set in for you. Whether you wait to play impacts you and you alone. Maybe a better question is... should you wait to post on the game discussion forums until you actually play the game? Probably. Ehhh... I already played for 100 hours. lol. Mostly constantly rerolling characters and testing out abilities. Havnt played in months though. And I never got very far into the second act. I got to I think level 9 in the endless dungeon underneath the keep in act 1 on path of the damned. Going into act 2 i felt the difficulty falling off a cliff and I was overleveled. I realized right away that the problem was going to get worse before it got better. Without challenge I dont really feel like playing. And I see they still havnt fixed the exp problem. If any developer reads this Can you PLEASE add the option to NERF THE EXP TABLE into the base game so i dont have to fudge around with the EI mod everytime you patch the game? Thank you. -
I can agree. My initial thought was repulsing seal should have its duration divided by 2. Slicken should have its radius nerfed, its range nerfed, or be a higher level spell or all of the above. And i see quite a bit of stuff is immune to hobbled. So that guy in OPs vid shouldnt just whine on about fighters. That is a pretty big hit to other classes like rogue too.

Care to elaborate? How long do you think it will take to finish ? -
I think the ability is fine in theory. Scoring a knockdown with your fighter and getting in a couple free attacks is fair play. Knocking down a pack of ogres for 25 seconds with a warding seal then recasting it on their prone bodies so that after the 25 seconds is finally over and they get back up, they active the fresh seal and fall back down again needs to go. I think lots of the spells need tweaking. For example paralyze is level 2 yet slicken is so much better. Iv noticed a few instances where higher level spells are garbage next to lower level ones.

Anyone in the beta want to post the full list of creatures and what they are immune to? After watching the youtube video, it does seem to be a little excessive. I was thinking of making a bleak walker with the AOE fear ability whenever you down a monster. If everything is immune to fear then it completely ruins that ability. On the other hand, it doesnt really make sense for undead to become afraid. So, Im on the fence. It is a good idea and it makes sense but if it makes too many abilities worthless then that aspect is not a good thing.
-
I see this issue from both sides. Immunities are only good if handled carefully. The fact that it nerfs fighter knock down as a byproduct IS a problem. The offenders were the stupidly overpowered warding seal and slicken. Those spells deserve to be nerfed. Fighters ability was not that good to start with so that will now need to be buffed. I was advocating for Resistances. Make fire elementals 75% resistant to fire for example. You can still use fire on them it will just be less effective. In this model nothing ever becomes completely worthless. Only the most bad ass of monster should be IMMUNE as in 100% resistant. Dragons do come to mind. Immunity should not be thrown around like candy. 75 fire res would reduce fire damage by 75%. 40 knockdown res would reduce knockdown durations by 40%. And so on. Maybe this is harder to code and implement though. Immunity might be more simple.

Too much restocking?
Kilburn posted a topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Does it bother you that most vendors constantly restock everything? It cheapens alot of the items since you can buy unlimited copies of them and also makes the game too easy even on the hardest setting. I believe even the gem merchant in the docks restocks all of his diamonds and stuff and they are cheap to boot. I dont think it should be like that. -
Improving Stronghold Rest Bonuses
Kilburn replied to Anaeme's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
bonuses are not needed. kinda dumb that you cant open a lock then you go to your stronghold, sleep, come back and open it with the bonus. food is silly too. Why is food bonuses so strong and long lasting? Most magical potions suck and last for 10 seconds but eating a meat pie or whatever is like chugging a potion of frost giant strength and lasts for 5 minutes. All of the food can be done away with and replaced by potions instead. the potions should be much harder to get and more expsenive. As it is now they give you an unlimited supply of food and the bonuses are insane. -
Defender 2.0 beta nerf
Kilburn replied to limaxophobiacq's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
That's fine, I havnt bought the expansion yet. I will vote with my wallet. Im waiting to see how future patchs balance the game before I commit to anything. I have to wait for the new IE mod anyways, since experience is still horribly broken in the vanilla game. If their idea of balancing an ability is +15 deflection nerfed down to -5 and this trend is applied to other classes, I wont bother buying it. I dont even play fighter but it just shows me they dont really understand their own game. And doesnt really make me feel confident for future changes. -
I'm playing on hard and they're ****ing dumb. I hate them, and it's making me reconsider ever buying a PoE related product again. Fun boss fights? That's gay you should just be frustrated and reloading for hours Reloading and trying it again is part of the game and it is fun. Baldur's gate, dragon age origins, etc all had this type of reloading especially if youre like me and only ever play on the hardest difficulty setting. If you cant handle it, just put the game on easy and you probably wont ever have to reload. Or maybe this kind of game just isnt for you. There are plenty of other games out there that are very easy and cater to the lowest common denominator, they will probably be more your style.

xp balance
Kilburn replied to Gunnar.Maluf's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
You need the IE mod and click to incease your exp to level up required by 50%. 25% is not enough in my opinion. If there was a 75% option I might use it actually. These options should have been included in the base game. -
So that was terrible...
Kilburn replied to Katarack21's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Wow. First time I see a post of someone who understands BG combat wasn't perfect, and that the engagement idea is there for a reason. Finally. The things I suffered in the beta forums I'm guessing some more balancing is needed. Obviously the fighter can't have high deflection + high accuracy + extra engagements + high damage. So saying it's the op's problem if his/her fighter doesn't punish disengagement is kinda silly. It is absolutely your problem if you treat all offensive stats as dump stats to go max deflection. And it is possible to make an effective hybrid - High deflection while still maintaining offense. My dual wield hatchet paladin was very good in melee and pushed high deflection. 90 deflection with max might and dexterity. -
Defender 2.0 beta nerf
Kilburn replied to limaxophobiacq's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
So, wait, let me get this straight. You guys nerfed Defender and you also nerfed constant recovery, which now has a duration (90 secs)? While granting all the other classes veteran recovery, which has no duration, AND leaving the paladin like a dozen points ahead of the fighter in terms of deflection and like a couple dozens points of fort, ref and will? And the fighter is intended to be an exceptional tank? Really? Josh, I really appreciate that you took the time to chime in to clarify the issue with defender, but... really? Exactly what I was thinking. Paladin can still stack an insane ammount of deflection. This defender change just creates class imbalance and destroys a viable figther build. Paladin is now a far better tank. But I guess we better shut up before paladin gets nerfed into the ground and becomes unplayable. What I cant figure out is how it goes from +15 deflection to MINUS 5. Did you not consider a middle ground? I also think you are overvaluing how good multiple engagement is. It is not that important. I dont see anything about class balance changes in the patch notes. What else has changed?
