Also, correcting your companions stats (via save editing/editors or mods) doesn't disable achievements or anything so there is no reason play them with their default terribleness or replace them with mercs unless you just want to.

Sorry, all the loot is found in fanny packs. You can find them hidden in out of the way places and as drops from certain fanny pack wearings bosses. Of course that's every boss because all bosses wear fanny packs... like a boss
