  1. If you solo PotD you can do all quests in Defiance Bay (Act 2) without even getting the cheese shield from the ruins. Now I leveled up to 7 and got the shield = master race. Gonna try and kill the Sanguine guy too, with monk that fight was doable, but hard. Once you reach level 9 and get disintegrate the game will be a joke.
  2. Longknife also repeated his mistaken opinion, that the accuracy bonus of the paladin doesn't stack with priests... Maybe it's no use to repeatedly preach to him about the paladin, he just doesn't like them, because they are not on a level with the truly strong classes like monk, cipher and so forth, so they have to be bad by default....
  3. Monks are just more viable in the beginning of the game because their higher accuracy actually counts there. I can only repeat myself, if you're soloing PotD (and only then) and struggling for the first 4 Levels until then, and again ONLY THEN Monk is actually the best class in the game. After the first 4 levels barb seems to be the champ for now. I actually do wonder about the cipher though. I started a solo PotD cipher the other day and killed Maerwald yesterday. Even though level 4 cipher is still squishier against melees than monk (and monk also can kill Raedric/Kolsc before Caed for level 5, which cipher can't) my cipher actually did better against Maerwald, then my monk!!! With the monk I had to reload once to kill Maerwald, what I did was, I took my shield off and wielded Gauns in the off-hand, that way the monk killed Maerwald without pulling any enemies towards him (many people seem to pull beetles or spiders to him, I don't like that exploity strat.) Now the cipher did not need a reload, I killed Maerwald first try, by using a nice strat, which actually nearly won the radric fight for me also, using Antipathetic field on a summon. after my summon disposed of the first two summons of Maerwald. Because Maerwald used most of his mainspells on my summon he auto attacked my cipher and came close to me taking full damage from the antipathetic field, after 2 castings of the field his summon died though and I had to attack him directly, but his deflection is only 40ish, no trouble hitting him with cipher who has a shield equipped. Now it seems easy to get to Level 7 for Mind Lance and I suppose the cipher will get to barb level damagewise and mybe better later on.
  4. Paladins have insane high fortitude early on. Even with a 10 CO pala without fortitude talent you get 80 at level 4, 122 seems very possible to me with level 5 which you can reach pre Caed.
  5. So much trolling going on, like people don't know what an appreciation thread is.
  6. i agree...the game is good and not so easy The mode was called Path of the Damned for a reason, there really is no harm in making it a challenge or to object to people wanting that, in it's current form it really isn't past the first few levels. As above, good AI has been done for this kind of game (see SCS for Baldur's Gate). Not even expecting that level, just hoping Obsidian and then eventually a modder will make it so there aren't <5 memorable fights in the game for people who like stuff really difficult. Even the first levels are not hard if you have a full party. Heck, if you have a solo monk the first levels are a breeze, too...
  7. Cipher is as much fun as a monk, if you like the monk you will probably like cipher too.
  8. You get 4 times as many enemies in Potd compared to easy. Hard mode is just annoying doesn't change the actual difficulty.
  9. In PotD 95 is not that high, you can have it with Level 5 and still get hit plenty.
  10. My solo monk does fine on PotD with Sanguine Plate. Could evengo cheaty and use the shield also, but then I generate less wounds and have less accuracy...
  11. I haven't even tried barb yet because everyone complains how cheap it is. That screenshot where one guy killed the ogre group in one shot solo was just too much. Monk is cheap enough for me, who needs a barb? ;P
  12. Or they could just invent a difficulty level above PotD, it's optional to play it, so nobody is forced to.
  13. Prone in itself is good the duration is just way too short for a move that is only 2 per encounter. My second argument was not directed at a standalone fighter but party. If you have priest you don't need the regen if you have one ore more moon godlikes and no priest you don't need it, the fighter regen is a joke compared to having two ore more moon godlikes or if you aren't cheesy to have say your tank pala moon godlike with LoH supported by a priest. The fortitude is ofc a pala feature and not a specific build I already mentioned you get that fortitude with only 10 CO and no specific items to raise it, the bonus comes from Faith and conviction and having 1 point in each disposition and also picked Deep Faith. The aggro pull move comes relatively late it doesn't help you in Caed Nua and the temple for example, my fighter team didn't have it when i did the Dozens quest either though I can't remember if I could have picked it with level 5 and just was too stupid to do it. @peddroelm I agree fully with Longknife you just can't compare that ability with other damagers, especially monk and cipher are just insane and in my eyes flames is the worst pala abiitiy and only good combined with shieldbearer buff.
  14. If that was directed at me, you haven't read my post. I was asking for raised difficulty by modders, something you actually would have to install to apply it to yourself. I also said I like the lower difficulty in general especially for group play. As to your question what can be done to satisfy my complaints: just play Baldur's Gate on SCS and you will know what better AI looks like, it's still not on human level, but I didn't ask for that. (Even though I play Coop games too, sadly there is nothing truly good in the RP-sector.)
  15. It sure feels good in comparison to BG monk and makes soloing fun even if you aren't that good at solo.^^
  16. Knockdown isn't that good it lasts to short. Endurance regen isn't that good moon godlikes and priests trivialize it. LoH is really awesome, also a paladin doesn't get stunned easily, with level 4 he already has over 80 Fortitude without any buffs and items whatsoever except protection-ring. If you had a talent for Fortitude and max CO (80 is with 10 CO and mx MI) you would have over 100 Fortitude and Phantoms wouldn't even stun you if they gangbang you. The engfagement is really good but as I said it doesn't help against teleporting and beetles. Other melees rarely get through to the squishies if you position right.
  17. @eubatham I can't be bothered to read every single post, but I assume the last posts are up to date/adjusted, so why do I still read things like: "If I want a full tank, Fighter or a Monk are definitely better options than a Paladin" " RIP Paladins. Rest in Peace. This means that a Fighter vs. a Paladin, as far as defense goes, looks like this: Fighter: 15 Deflection, 10 of everything else and 35 deflection with 30 of everything else when Vigorous Defender is active Paladin: 15 Deflection, 26 of everything else once both positive dispositions are maxed at 4 and Deep Faith is taken. (at the start of the game the paladin should have around 15 of the other defenses if just deep faith is taken) It's a difference, but it just doesn't feel as though it's near enough to matter" ? How do people still compare the fighter with no buffs with the paladin and his group buffs? The only real good thing about fighters is, they engage more enemies, but against shadows and beetles that doesn't seem to matter and against most other enemies you don't need the tank to engage the melees as they will attack him anyway. Oh and I forgot how the Outworn buckler gives defense to your whole party that is also a passive buff.
  18. Just wanted to share my opinion as to party combat in PoE. I think that especially the feature of endurance, makes it easier to act with a party, then if you had only health like in BG. For me personally it was always a big turnoff to lose squishy party members in an otherwise easy fight. As it is, the only problem with PoE is the overall difficulty being very low. (on PotD) But I hope modders will rise to the challenge and make it more difficult. Since party members don't die to easy there should be more magic or ranged attackers who target those. There is already enough (too many) melees who try to engage the rest of the group, but there definitely should be more far away attackers. Also I'm always disappointed when facing enemy ciphers, which are very lackluster in their use of abilities. Better AI would elp a lot. But over all a great game, especially well made for begginners in the genre, but also enjoyable for those who have played similar games before.
  19. I like the build diversity even though the race diversity is quite bad. I like how it's really fun to have a party with 6 different characters, while in BG I always ended up getting frustrated with parties and soloing, though that is also due to the endurance mechanic in PoE.
  20. I didn't get much help from those videos either, but I wouldn't claim the dude doesn't know what he's saying.
  21. Cipher, Monk and Rogue are clearly the best damagers ingame, with the monk also being able to tank. Question I've been asking myself about the monk if he isn't just a little broken. But the monk never will be able to tank like the paladin and the fighter who is best tank doesn't have any viable support. Are people complaining about palas support even looking at the Zealous focus, LoH, Exhortations and even and even FoD combined with for example Shielding Touch? (The latter being the worst but still not bad.)
  22. Having finally created a PC paladin I must agree with what people repeatedly stated here, it makes a HUGE difference, especially if you custom create the rest of your party anyway. The defensive bonuses you get are enormous and if it weren't for the lack of engaging more enemies, the paladin would be the best tank period. Since you also get the auras the paladin is really good. I now have a group which has no fighter tank whatsoever and makes up for it by having a lot of melees: Tanks Paladin PC + Chanter, Off-tank Monk, melee rogue also I have a ranger with a wolf, the wolf hangs back for a few seconds to see if melee enemies make it through the 4 melees, if yes he engages those, if not he flanks fools to help the rogue. I also have a cipher, no priest I play moon godlike so healing is unnecessary. ;P Oh and kind of OT, but a party in PotD makes the difficulty totally trivial, whens SCS? I already soloed Act 1 and 2 with Cipher and Monk, but having a party is less tedious though a tad bit too easy.
