Looking to mix it up a bit so my next party will consist of all hirelings using their starting gear which I will upgrade as I go. I will only use items in the belt, boots, etc.. slots that upgrade stats only, no special abilities allowed. This also means no plate armor or better. Also means making my choice for builds centered on character abilities not equipment perks. Bye bye Tidefall...

Since uploading the beta Priest in all my parties seem to only be able to use Spells or abilities once per rest then most of the time they start to use a spell or ability but don't or can't finish it. Then the icon for that spell or ability will stay greyed out suring the rest of the combat and any other future combat until I rest. It seems the spell or ability gets "stuck"???

I mostly agree.... except that leaves some classes in the never use category. You are using the "A good Offense is the best Defense" theory. Though you may be correct, some players hate not having a strong defense as their starting point and prefer to build to the big hit. So the classes that have late fight cosmic powers can shine when paired with Several tanks for example. To me the devs should make every class viable in both scenarios. Ciphers should have the capability to either last throughout a battle or throw a big punch early. Just like a Wizard or Druid.

You don't necessarily need high RES to tank. 14 is plenty. Items/Inns/Food/Salty Mast Whores help build it up in game. Add those points right back into Might. Tanks can also DPS a bit as well. Otherwise the enemy will just bypass you for your squishies in the back row. Give him Heavier Armour, a Retaliation Shield and either his fist or any other One hander. I like the Vile Loner's Lance personally. Easily obtained in the early game. Or Resolution, also easily obtained early on. You don't need to pick all defensive talents. There is a sweet spot in the balance between über tank and tanky DPSer. I like taking W & S then add offensive abilities and talents that complement your weapon choice. If you make him a Tanky DPSer then just toughen the other guys up a bit so Zah can draw aggro.

Melee Chanter Tank is a good choice for starters. Heavy Armour, 1hander & Shield plus a firearm or two is a very durable PC who can support the party with buffs, debuffs, CC, summons, AoE damage, ranged damage and melee durability. Best all rounder in my opinion. Currently my PC is a variant of Boeroer's Chanter build the Drake's Ambassador that can be found in this section of the forums, though could be spoilerish. Love me my Chanter!
