Sometimes they are, we have seen such devs in the past. Thats natural, they come up. In most cases i would say you are right, it is a creative industry. Sadly run by publishers and their respective shareholders. So we will still see more COD shooters being financed (which is fine, the sell well) rather than cRPG´s. Which is a niche, and is also fine. The real sad thing here is that publishers like EA or Activison think that this genres are exclusive. While, and i must say respect, Ubisoft went, "wait a moment..lets fund some small games and see what happens" and suddenly they had 2 of the most successfully games that year. This war of mine, child of light, were big success compared to cost and brought in money. That won´t change the current market, but it´s a good example on how the industry works. Blind would be the nicest thing i could say, especially if you factor in things like kickstarter, patreon etc. who found mostly games that would otherwise be dead because Publishers, not devs, Publishers decided it wouldn´t make enough money. Well, their loss really.

Witcher 3 - The women actually look like women.
cirdanx replied to luzarius's topic in Computer and Console
I don't know why, but the comment about Sera looking like Gollum cracks me up way more than it should. Mainly because it's kind of true and I just noticed it my last time through. But it´s true! lol And i even romanced her, but there are no other interesting options for a female Inq, at last how i played her. One of the many reasons, DA:I left me with a feeling of "meh, allright but still crap" The discussion on WHY the main characters are better looking and animated shouldn´t even be one. THEY are the ****ing main characters ffs. You as a player are forced to look at them more often than you may like (or not ). Generally speaking they did a great job with everyone and everything, even random people to bring in diversity in a game that can still run on a ****y console. So thumbs up -
Right now Cities Skylines to chill out with podcasts runing, and then usualy Witcher 1 -> 3..that may take some time O_O

I AM creaming my pants However, i know their games are horrific at launch and it usually takes several patches to even consider buying them. So no, **** that. On the other hand however, there is: Battlefleet Gothic - Armada !!! Which somehow get´s no coverage, despite looking very good. So there is still hope for a good rts game in the W40k universe at last. (yes yes i know DoW exists..3 needs to happen..) Edit: shot interview about Armada

SW: The Old Republic - Episode VII (J.J. Strikes Back)
cirdanx replied to Blarghagh's topic in Computer and Console
I wish the trailers would reflect the quality of the game. -
Skyrim was that successful pinnacle of open world games, (like BG2 was for the golden age of cRPG) now everyone asks the devs about it and thus it became a marketing strategy.."we are bigger and/or better than skyrim don´t worry". Despite most people never even exploring all of Skyrim. Bigger = better and idiots fall for it (even if it´s not true) Anyway, i enjoyed the other fallout games, but i was never a big fan. This looks very dated to me in terms of graphics and doesn´t bring much new to the table, so to speak...sooo...not excited.

They're definitely a movement every bit as much as gamergate is, they'd just label themselves as being 'for social justice' or 'progressives' or whatever instead of being the rather more perjorative 'sjw' their opponents call them. That's pretty much the same as GGers calling themselves 'pro Gamer' instead of 'GooberGobblers'. * I don´t think they are a movement. They are just a group of people, and anyone who isn´t in that group is against them. A movement has an agenda, a goal, we could argue that gamergate is also not a movement..and it isn´t really. Though they had a goal, to bring themselves out of the bad image that gaming has, and be finally respected. Which, despite a big amount of charity work, and trying to explain it...didn´t work out. In this case, thanks to those idiots who call themselves SJW, who use their "fame" to support themselve. I don´t think i have to put a link to that kickstarter do i? They are a small group, and they have no saying. It´s the PR people who always want to please everyone and then change a game. Which is stupid. Look at the recent Witcher 3 "sexist" blablabla...yet..any changes from CCP? Nope, because thats how you deal with it. You ignore them. They are not important. A more interesting discussion would be, on how we can establish "gaming" as something normal. Think about it: I can´t even count the moments in my life (i´m 32) where i was looked down on, because i play games? Seriously..thats ****ed, but the moment i mention reading or movies everything is ok? Depending where you live, "gamers" are treated like kids. E-sports, while extremly popular (DotA, LoL, SC2) is just not recognized, because "games are for children". It´s kinda sad, but it´s the same with every new kind of media...it wasn´t much different when cinema came out or tv or cd´s etc. People will come around, even if it takes a generation. But the bias is always there for the medium.

For forum warriors twitter, facebook, etc. Is the reality... i can safely assume that at least 95% of general population and probably nearly 90% of gaming population have no idea what these people are talking about or dismiss them like you dismiss ravings of your street junkie or some radical who is surrounded by crazy mass stroking the ego of some sick commune leader. Pretty much spot on. As a rather popular game critic has said "they are a group and not a movement, they have no real agenda" paraphrasing here though i could search for the vid. They are doing more harm to the cause they pretend to follow. It´s the downside of social media, where everyone can be heared, but at the same time it´s a good thing, because they are so easily proven wrong.

cirdanx replied to Blarghagh's topic in Computer and Console
That would emphasize the single player aspect, but it´s an mmo and operating like one...i don´t get it why people are in favour of this (like some in wow). Might as well just play a single player RPG. Or is it because, this is basicly a weak Kotor 3? -
NON-Obsidian South Park RPG Sequel Announced!
cirdanx replied to Infinitron's topic in Computer and Console
Well, looks like the game has been in works for sometime, and Obsidian was working on Pillars. It looks fun and still could be a good game, i expect the south park creators are again heavily invested in this. So it could end up being a great game. -
Western spies forced to pullout : Snowden to blame
cirdanx replied to BruceVC's topic in Way Off-Topic
Reporters coming out and confessing happens a lot more often than one might think, it usually doesn´t make it big in the news, because obviously it throws a shadow of doubt over the media. There are many good books written from former star reporters, some price winners, on how they manipulate coverage and how news get faked to either stir up controversy or simply bring the public into something that they otherwise would reject. -
1. Ugh, it´s still my opinion, you think itßs subjective, i think it´s a fact, based on what i have read from you. Nevermind. 2. That is not a flaw. You are always pointing out on how capitalism works. This is how it works. However, you also have to consider the billions of deals, from ressources to infrastructur that are made. Obivously this are not things anyone will immediately notice because they are long time projects. But in the end it will also mean work and money. Now, HOW that money will flow into your, or other countries depends also on your goverments. We all have corruption to deal with. But the question is, what is the alternative? What could, for an example the US offer you? Look at the pressure they try to impose on Brazil and other SA countries for doing business with others, do you want that? 3. Yes democracies have issues. Every form of state control has it´s issues. I don´t believe that one is fundementally food or bad. The general thing is that, those with power, will always try to stay in power and usually try to opresse others, thats history 101 for you. What i personally would like to see is a modern adaption of the original democracy system of the greeks. Or at last an approach to a more open system like switzerland has it, with even more voting power of the people. 4. The referendum itself was legal. The action before was not, as i have said. The people living their have a right of self determination. In this case i´m fully on the side of the people (not russia, they might aswell have just said we want to rule outself). They wanted nothing to with the civil war and wanted to get aways. THIS is their right to do so. You can´t go around like the "west" (which are not united in this) and talk about democracy and human rights, but as soon as people want to determine their future you bring out the whip and so no? Thats hypocritical in definition. The problem here is the that there is a conflict in rights. On the one side the UN charta comes along with the right of self determination on the other side it also talks about territorial integrity. I don´t know about you, but the people are more important than an artificial line on a map. It doesn´t matter if Washington or Brussel recognize it. It´s a done deal and they know it. Them runing around and screaming "we don´t recognize it" makes them look like idiots, they don´t own the world. Not to mention that both, but the US especially, shouldn´t even open their mouth about international law, they are first to break it if they feel the need to. Oh god don´t say that lol! Yes we have strong historical and cultural ties with Germany, and i like that country and in general the people. But the ties are not that strong as many outsiders believe. Our economic ties are strong, but that also means we suffer when they do. And it doesn´t mean that when they are doing good, we do good also. (thats exactly the case now, we don´t profit from their powerhouse right now) From the outside it all looks good, but we have some serious economic problems, a lot of them relating to senseless and useless sanctions against one of our main trading partners...russia. 5. Here is the thing. Nemtsovs´s report has barely any sources. Everyone knows Nemtsov was against the current leadership in russia. He was the opossion, one that barely existed. Nemtsov was political dead. If thats your own source then..well -> laugh. Now don´t get me wrong. I firmly believe that russia has special units in east Ukrain, to train soldiers etc. How is that problem? From day one the US send (openly) high ranking CIA official and military advisers into Ukrain. That is not an secret. Also weapons, which were found and documented by the OSCE (including international banned ammuniton). So bascily it´s ok for the US/Nato to stir up **** and support a goverment that kills it´s own people but when russia sends the people who are killed the same it´s not ok? Not to mention that boarder guards, the OSCE and even the top military commander from the Ukraine army said that there are NO russian soldiers there. I even posted the link to the video before. You said the military is there... Think about it. There are international observers, boarder guards. US surveillance ships in the black sea and god knows what else. It would be easy to spot and proof they existence of any military force of russia there. The fun part is, that everything that came up, pictures, 1 sat picture have been debunked and that even the US defence ministry has over and over again said that they can´t proof any of this when asked, but at the same time all we hear is russian agression. So? I agree, we won´t find a common point i think

As a German, I would seriously prefer you to stop spewing nonsense about what Germans think and know. Thanks. Not going to bother with the rest here. oby can be proud of you. Well of course it´s generalisation and i can´t speak for every german, (that so obvious thats it´s nonsense to bring it up) just the few dozens i personaly know and have talked about that. You saying the opposite is also bull****, because you don´t speak for everyone too. The reaction to the press coverage on the other side, like outlets like Spiegel coming out and apologising for their one sided coverage because they lost tons of viewers of this, speaks a clear language. Your little Oby remark is also silly, because i have no business with that person.

SW: The Old Republic - Episode VII (J.J. Strikes Back)
cirdanx replied to Blarghagh's topic in Computer and Console
The f2p works in the beginning, but later on you will be severely restricted by it. Compared to other games (like Rift as an example) it´s a horrifically bad one. Do they still sell hotbars? That was pretty much the breaking point for me on ever playing it again. It's nigh impossible to play some of the classes with less than 3 hotbars, and if I'm remembering correctly you only get 2 for free. The only other comparable thing I've encountered in a f2p game (Vanguard, in this case) was having to pay to use equipment above a certain quality (per piece). I could have lived with it if quest rewards and crafted items weren't restricted, but they were. Woah, didn´t knew Vanguard also went down that horrible path o.O I don´t know if Swtor still does the same, but i think so, i have seen no news of them changing their mind. I thought it was a decent single player experience, from an MMO viewpoint, it´s a horrible game. I wrote an indepth review when i quit after one year, it was such a sad waste of potential and a perfect example on why no one should copy so much from WoW. Last time i gave it a shot was..i guess 8 months ago? I played for like 4 hours and was bored out of mind, not to mention the restrictions of the f2p model that turned me off. Rift did f2p perfect, Swtor didn´t. WoW has many problems. The whole H vs. A story arcs always feels forced because there is no real reason for them to be enemies anymore. Don´t get me started on that game :D -
I fully expect something similar to Dragon Age Keep. (and other similarities in the game)

Western spies forced to pullout : Snowden to blame
cirdanx replied to BruceVC's topic in Way Off-Topic
Just to clear up for some people who might be interested what AES256 is and why this is more than unlikely. http://www.eetimes.com/document.asp?doc_id=1279619 There is a reason why goverments and in particular intelligence agencies are not very happy with privat persons using encryption. -
Western spies forced to pullout : Snowden to blame
cirdanx replied to BruceVC's topic in Way Off-Topic
Thats probably more loud noise and finger pointing than anything else. They all will continue to spy on each other one way or another, if anything it forced them to come up with better or more creative ways than before. Not to mention what Zoraptor said. -
As i said, you are funny on your ignorance. I´m so anti-western living in Austria, a western country which i would never leave. God you are ignorant. 1. Ehm no. Thats not what subjectivity means at all. It´s my opinion. 2. How is it flawed? This is typical for you...making statements but never elucidating them, or proof them. China is not perfect but an economical powerhouse. You won´t get any help or ideas from the US, take a look at their economic system and how horrible it is. (trillions of debt, unemployment rising, cities going bankrupt, all easy info to find) 3. I assume you probably mean the US again as the example...yeah nice living..on debt. Democracy is a nice thing, sadly we live in representative democracies, where politicans always lie for their benefit and then do whatever they want as soon as they are elected. But yes a real democracy would something i would like to see for a change. 4. No one? You mean all that talk about ISOLATING russia coming out of the mouths of persons like Obama (go look at some interviews) is a lie? They are just not able too. Annexed? Funny, the referendum of the people of Crimea, observerd by over 70 international observers says something different. In fact that is legally in the UN charta. The only thing that was not legal, was that the soldiers (allready on the ground because of the military base) went out to (peacfully btw, not ONE shot) remove the armed forces of Ukraine AFTER Ukraine attacked the civilians in the east Ukraine. As far as i see it, he protected Crimea, and they are very happy about that. You should go there for holidays, it´s a real beautiful place in summer. And after that you should make a tour of the destroyed remains of east-ukraine, but careful or Kiev Grad might hit you in the head. Patriotic? Patriotism is one of the most stupid things in existence. A falls sense of pride so that idiots go and fight wars for goverments. Oh don´t get me wrong, i would defend my home with all means. Because i live here and like it here, not because i was born here by accident. But i would never follow dumb idiots into wars, in countries that are none of my business. I mean come on. Look at the war history of the US, this highly patriotic country. A little bit of flag waving and some american and god slangs and they are off killing people all over the world. LOOK at the ****ing history man, it´s written in blood. Oh for bloody hell: a) Austria is not Germany b) Germans don´t look down on Russians, in fact people are not happy about sanctions and don´t believe the **** they get fed too. The backlash, pressure on big outlets and viewer drops of this anti-russian crap is telling c)Hitler has nothing at all to do with this e) and this is something important. Europe had many wars in it´s past, but after it was done we made peace and moved on. This is in contrast to what the "empires" did and do, see history of UK and America. I mean you live in Africa for gods sake, you should know better than that. What you also don´t seem to get is that this is also Russian idiology, you can be an enemy in the past, but a good friend now. Otherwise they would never do business with Germany, not hard to understand is it? And don´t even try to point out American and German "friendship" now, because even the germans know they are still effectly occupied. As for the EU, the list is so long....the short story? over 70% off laws come from Brussel, from non elected people, thats not a democracy, it´s the opposite. Not having our own courrency is a disaster. Their laws ruin this country and others. THATS why....and many many more reasons. 5. See, in contrast to you I HAVE shown in this thread that there is NO single proof of any Russian military there, have easily pointed out WHY Russians are willingly fighting there, HAVE debunked enough lies and proven them material, mostly coming out of the mouths of these people you seem to like so much. Not that it matters, nowdays there are volunters in the Donbas from all over europe (it´s a nice thing to have phone cameras these days) and even the OSCE must admit the constant violations of the Minsk 2 from Kiev. All that together proofs me right, and makes you look like the one who is totally misinformed, ignorant and blind. But because you can´t come up with something, this will again be an one sided discussion. So there is no point in talking with you any more or is there?
-
This is so freaking hilarious, i´m laughing so hard it hurts....bringing the bank bailouts as an example totally kills it, oh god so funny. I´m not even going to start to point out how naive and blind this is. Thank you. You made my day and really proved that any sensible discussion is pointless with you. Oh well, no hard feelings, i will continue to laugh now, because that was really funny. As for TPP, there are more leaks and they all show it´s a disaster and i hope it fails, but they are trying hard, very very hard to make it happen, no matter what the public thinks. Democracy......if that would be the case the TPP files would be open and we would have a public referendum about it.

I saw it too now and it was really a fun popcorn movie and the director made a special ponit at taking a hit at product placesment and consumer and corporate excess (in his own words). It was fun and i enjoyed them more than the other sequels. To my surprise i didn´t even hate the kid actors in this one lol. Now i´m wondering if they will make more future films, Pratt has signed up for an "unknown amount of sequels" to this one. Not sure if i´m a big fan of that.

Yes and it makes sense. Geralt from the Witcher is a very well established character with a lot of lore and they stayed mostly true to that, naturally that is reflected in his dialogue. Now the Inquisitor is not that heavily restricted and it becomes problematic to me when he/she says something that is inherently different to what the wheel suggests or how i play that character. That however is not only a problem of the wheel, but also a problem of the writing. As someone pointed out, Deus Ex HR did it very very well. While a fixed character can be very interesting to play, i prefer the non-voiced and more open character playstyle to create my own PC. It worked very well for me in DA:O. Anyway the wheel is not the biggest problem DA:I has in my opinion. :D
-
Yes that would be reasonable, but the internet and people in general are not very reasonable or are they? :D Metacritic hate is something very real and as Majestic said, it can be heavily gamed. Employees from game studios have been caught pushing their games with 10 raitings and users giving out 0 reviews is nothing new (with their "review" consisting of a few words like "this is crap") From a consumer viewpoint, this is pointless. Even they guys runing metacritic said that it should be not taken so seriously. Sadly some studios/publishers think this is the holy grail, going as far as tying contracts and bonus payouts to metacritic raitings. Thats silly. My point is, that there are better sources for reviews these days. I personally prefer to watch a WTF is from Totalbiscuit on a game i might be interested in. That gives me gameplay, an insight to mechanics and a bit info on the technical side. To me, this is way more informative than a metacritic score, or for that matter any scores, considering a 5 out of 10 might still be enjoyable for me even if it´s not for the critic.
-
Same here. Usually i get something, and i did this time too. But right now, and i might be mistaken ok, but right now i´m 100% positiv that some games went up in price before the sale, making the sales pointless. Just as examples, i´m very sure Blackguards was not almost 40.- before the sale, now it´s 9.99.- 75% off, which makes it still more expensive than getting the physical copy from amazon where i live (8,69.-), i mean seriously? Same with Fallen Enchantress - Legendary Heroes, the sale makes is only a little cheaper than the amazon copy. Duke Nukem Forever is in the same boat if you compare normal prices. This is very unusual. And i´m aware that Steam games normal prices are almost always more expensive than say Amazon. But 2 times or 4 times?
