I have to be honest and don´t "stone" me for it This sound exactly like when BG1 AND 2 came out, there were always people who thought xp gain was to fast (especially in 2) and that it ruined the game. Well i can´t agree. I do agree that it feels off sometimes, being someone who wants to finish everything in a zone i find myself often outleveling content, but i can still turn up the difficultiy if i want to, being max lvl before the end is also common in the old games if you did everything. So again i don´t see a problem. Maybe its a bit to fast. But we, and i expect that everyone here is now an professional DnD player (which i´m not ) have to consider that there are players who get their ass kicked on easy with this xp curve. Obsidian had to find a middle ground. So far, i THINk they have done a good job. Why? Because the super hard stuff will come in form in mods, designed by and for people who like that, just like the Black Isle games, you can´t release a game in this state, 90% of the people wouldn´t play after the first hours, that was true back than and now. THe only thing i would say is, that they should have made more levels and spread the goodies (likes spells) more out...thats my only critic really. (so far)

Maybe it´s just me, but loading in everything and npc´s takes a bit of time, but then again, can it be optimized? For sure, but they should rather fix other things, loading time is no problem in MY opinion. @sparklecat i have a rather outdated pc, it takes my save about 15-30max to load...thats a good point maybe there is some problem with the saves.

Good point, but then he/she could explain it and not answer with a "Im not here to answer why I just want to know" and expect help. Also, again, this is very easy to look up on for the most part. -

Well i was guessing, it´s still silly. And i stand to my opinion -
My guess they had to make some compromise in this section if the wanted to maintain the structure where your choices were reflected in the game world. Do you know to what extend is the divide implemented? Maybe it is just that some parts of the map are closed off because war/battle/wild hunt w/e big reason? My guess is the technical aspect. IF we believe the sheer size of the game than it´s just a barging for load times, you can´t have EVERYTHING without loading times, especially consindering most people will play this game on rather normal gaming rigs and consoles. Somewhere inbetween you have to load in a new section, but i guess they can easily explain it with the war going on, so immersion won´t be broken.

Exactly, i also started only posting when i got the game, or shortly before, if you think this forum is horrible. go check out Biowares (as an example), it brakes my heart to this day. You will always have a high on " i hate this and that" when your game launches, that goes down and what stays is a good community, WHEN you don´t cater to a broad audience, which of course these games never do. Good for us i would say

If he is not trying to be mean, of satisfying his superior complex with this stupid question. (which is me guessing of course) Then he is just plain stupid. Considering it´s very easy to find out who works on this things, a google search does it. Also, IF you want to know something, you should be able to support your question with a why you want to know it. Then people could help him out. Example: "where there a lot of young people in the production? BECAUSE i feel the writing is very influenced by...etc etc" Answer: (propably) "No, but we need to take the current market into consideriation because....etc etc" Pretty easy People will be helpful if your second answer isnt "demand answer" -
I'm not enjoying this game
cirdanx replied to Bigby's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
My 2 cents. You don´t like the game? Fine. Thats your opinion, but lets take a closer look: "the characters I encountered so far are boring and the story is so bland and prevedible. I can't even bring myself to play another sidequest." Thats your opinion and makes me think you are not far into the game...however, you could be far in the game and then..well sucks for you sorry to hear that. "The gameplay is just awful," Just because you don´t like it doesn´t make it awful.... "I agree on the fact that in this kind of games the combat is not the focus point, but I feel like I'm playing Planescape Torment without the option of avoiding combat, it's just a nightmare and considering how interested I find myself in the story I don't even feel like bearing with it to see how it develops." Wrong. Every game in this style, especially the BG series had a strong focus on combat, that is one of the reasons this games became popular back then, strategic combat. You can avoid a lot of combat, considering you invested in the right stats, just like the old games. You just said the story is "bland and prevedible" now you are suddenly interested? "I still have the hero edition for steam, if anybody is interested in it hit me up with a PM. I'll probably put the retail collectors edition on ebay as soon as I get it, let me know if you're interested." Well thats your right to do -
Well to be fair, and i don´t like DA:I, they are completely different games anyway.
-
The main problem with DA3 combat is that is just a console version of an RPG, which translate into butto smashing as soon as you found the most powerfull attack. It´s the same as DA2. There is no real tactic, strategy, planing or anything, the most you do is positiong, it´s pathetic and it´s a perfect example for a dumbed down comabt system in favor of consoles. Such a comabt is fine, but after Origins i can not go back, DA2 feelt horrible from a playing perspective, sure...the story was also ****, but it HAD a lot of good moments and good sub-plots. Again..DA3 has some good subplots i have seen, but the overall story? Feels out of place and forced. I have to say i played it over at a friend for some hours, i hate the combat now more than in 2 (the pause overscreen is the most ****y thing ever), the story arc is written by a 6y old, the sub-plots are often great. (watched the rest) Really great, but it just strengthens my opinion on Bioware these days: they have lost their talented writters, except the small ones who just write the other stuff in the game. DA2, ME 2-3 and now DA:I are the perfect examples for this. Edit: in my opinion of course

Agreed, it wouldn´t have hurt to show a bit more stealth in it. But then, it´s a trailer and they try to attract the crowd...of course violence works So far the promises look good, but it will be seen IF they can live up to their word and IF we see a great game like DE or DE: HR again. To be fair i´m really sceptical. I also had a laugh at the "bad guy" in the cinematic with his russian accent...really?

Despite playing out my story in PoE right now, i bought Grey Goo, which to my surprise is a really good RTS with an interesting story and a proof that Blizzard with their high budgets is not the only one to make high quality cinematics. If you like RTS games in a more traditional way, its worth checking out

PoE - Sales figures STEAM
cirdanx replied to BillyCorgan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Thats not bad for a new game and hopefully it will continue to do well. It´s looking even better if we keep in mind that his kind of RPG is considered a niche. I would be interested what Obsidians predictions were in term of sales. -
The only Star Trek game i want to see happening would be a "Birth of the Federation 2" *sigh* i can dream
-
Oh thats good, that made me laugh so hard. These people are highly amusing The way the forums are looking these days I'm not convinced we're all that much better. Well you can find "bad apples" everywhere without much trouble. If the internet has done one thing, then its showing how low people can be if they have the feeling they can get away with it or hide behind a faceless username. *shrug* Usually i don´t think i´m better than anyone, but after reading some of this twitter crap..oh well, let´s just say it made me feel a little better about myself Overall i think this forum is pretty reasonable, especially compared to others

The Official Romance Thread
cirdanx replied to Rosbjerg's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
You have a valid point there and writing a good romance in a game is a difficult thing to do. I don´t remember many good romances in games, they are usualy not well done (in my opinion). However, IF they are well written, they can add a great amount of immersion and roleplaying to the gameworld! Even after ten+ years, the BG2 romances still stand out for me. They were well written mostly, easy to screw up and actually comprehensible. Not like those Dragon Age romances were you basically just gifted stuff until you got the (horrible done) sex scene. But in BG2 the romances alone made me replay the game because i looked at them as content and thanks to the great writing i still have a lot of memories about these characters. I´m not that dissapointed that Pillars doesn´t have them, especially because i remember an interview where one dev said they left it out because they didn´t thought it would fit or couldn´t do them justice in the context of the game. Thats fine and a good reason. PoE to me is a lot like the original Baldurs Gate, in the sense that it lays out the groundwork and flashes out the world. I hope it will be successfull enough for them to make a second game where they can improve everything and then hopefully bring in romances. (pretty much what BG2 did back then) Also lets net forget the awesome modding community, so romance options will be in the game when its moddable. That will be one of the first things people make -
Well, I've been reading that DA: I is Bioware's best selling title to date so I think it's safe to assume it sold well over DA2. The thing is, EA has been the poster child for cutting development time to produce subpar games of well known franchises to fit their quarterly statement schedule for their shareholders and yet at the same time, they are more than willing to spend millions of dollars on marketing so that an under-developed game might seem much more awesome than it really is in order to get as many sales as possible. I'm just hoping that EA is finally realizing that listening to their fanbase is actually a good thing monetarily (something one would think is common sense) because all of those millions invested into the marketing to scam their fanbases could actually be put to better use making a solid game that would sell itself. Source? Outselling DA2 shouldn´t be that hard, it was not well received anyway. (rightfully in my opinion) but i would be surprised if it outsells ME3. Personaly i´m curious if it outsold DA:O. Everything i have seen so far from the game, including some let´s play´s makes me not want to buy it. I know i would hate the combat way to much to really enjoy it.

Seriously, is anyone surprised? These idiots feel like they have "won" some kind of battle because of the backer limmerick, despite the reasonable comment from the one who made it. (also amusing new one that made fun of the nutcase who started it). But they can´t grasp reality, so now they are asking for more. Pretty much what i wrote in the first place, the moment you change something and they think they can dictate your content they will try to mess with more. Let´s just ignore them, they are meaningless people anyway and there is no point in discussing with people who obviously lack intelligence.

Soon, only a "few" days left and my life will be over, can´t wait to get my hands on this, even if the game roasts my pc
-
Thanks for the list i guess The RPS article did mention they are working on it and want to make it retroactive to fix broken games, its impossible from the outside to say how much work and time it takes, but of course i hope this will come out soon. I will probably still buy the game tomorrow even if it means i have to wait for a patch to really get into it

Thats difficult, there isn´t much. But you also said Cyberpunk so you might want to check out: Shadowrun Returns http://store.steampowered.com/app/234650/ Shadowrun Dragonfall http://store.steampowered.com/app/300550/ Shadowrun is similar in game play not exactly a carbon copy though, the setting is pretty interesting. I enjoyed both games greatly, with the first part being very liniar and Dragonfall more open. However they don´t have the big (playable) world of PoE. Edit: ups, others were slightly faster Edit 2: If you are into roundbased combat, difficulty and strategy you may want to take a look at XCom, however its also very different, still worth checking out imo: http://store.steampowered.com/app/200510/

Memorials problem.
cirdanx replied to Ladyjess's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I respect your opinion, but let me get some things right. "The trope of straight dudes crying because they had sex with a woman who "is really a man" (which is itself a transphobic thing) is related to the concept of trans panic." There is no such thing as trans panic, where is there panic? If you are trans fine. I don´t care, its none of my business. If you i would get romantic with one and maybe in a relationship and then get this told, then, naturaly i would feel betrayed, because you are not a woman, biological speaking. And upfront honesty should be given in ANY relationship. "Many trans women face violence at the hands of straight men who feel that they were "deceived" and thus "panicked"." While this is true, many also don´t. You can´t shove everyone under one "trope". Violence is never acceptable between partners, but lets not pretend woman are different. "Many men have even gotten away with murdering trans women using this trans panic defense." No they haven´t, this is a myth: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gay_panic_defense "So that little "limerick" is in very bad taste." In your opinion, in reality the limerick is open to interpretation. ""Transmisandry" isn't a thing because misandry isn't a real thing" You are wrong: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misandry
