I've tried to digest DA, but sometimes I feel more immersed - or at least involved - playing the IE games. IE provides a better strategic overview and immediate feedback reg. party-control. NWN is decent, but I find DA and NWN2 to be slow. For me a good CRPG-engine should give the player total control. Better if they trade some graphics-performance for improved animations combined with better (quicker) feedback. A steady overview cam with a good zoom-out which you don't have to adjust all the time. Less (if any) flashy (spell-)effects which hinder or confuse immersion, and optional avatar marker-circles. Just the most token of scripts. A well-drawn and spacious inventory which makes sense. If they could just strip it all down to a bare minimum, and drop me right in the middle of big city, with six chars (which I can choose to roll up), and make it intuitive enough so I can figure it all out by myself. No forced companions and long drawn out tedious railroading intros, or cutscenes which go on forever. How about some art? Remember the tile-mosaic -like picture of Irenicus as you finish SoA chap.1? Nothing fancy, but it made a difference. Cutscene-chars in DA and NWN2 just can't convey what a good painted picture and a decent storyteller-voice can. Cutscenes with generic and sexless avatars chatting with incoherent lip/eye/hand movements just gives me the creeps, and I wish they'd keep it to a minimum. Player-control, immersion, instant feedback combined with art, taste and mature story (not zombie-grinding) will do the trick. That's not too much to ask.. is it? WoT will have all that, and more.. *cough*.. J.

I hope it'll be a long game, with lots of classes, spells, skills, open areas to explore, no forced companions, and.. uhm.. horses? Climbing? Swimming?.. k. Looking forward to it. Release date 2015? :D J.

DA is consolish imo.. Click'n kill. Like NWN2. IN BG/IWD you actually have to use some strategy and brains to succeed. Death to teH new s**t, long live IWD1 ! J.

It's true! Jesus said: "I'm sorry, I cannot heal your pre-existing condition. You'll have to pay out of pocket!" [/poor attempt at humor] Also, before the Dalai Lama ran from Tibet, his oracle described the red ideology, i.e. communism as a form of degeneration. Free unregulated capitalism, and total regulation through communism are both idiotic systems. A fist that is constantly open is as deformed as one that is always closed. J.

Pff... all those studies, How about we turn it around and say that those who are depressed tend to go to bed later instead? J.

In an editorial (12/27/84), the Washington Post offered this encomium to the Afghan rebels: "They managed to put down a brave resistance. Simple people, fighting with hand-me-down weapons, have borne tremendous costs and kept a modern well-armed state from imposing an alien political will. The fight for freedom in Afghanistan is an awesome spectacle and deserves generous tribute." from Fair.org Now we generously offer them mr. Karzai! Universal evil, or just hypocrisy? J.

Volournian Ideal DA2 Vaguely (minor DA1 soilers)
Junai replied to Volourn's topic in Computer and Console
1) Horses and climbing 2) RPG, not just mindless grinding 3) The possibility to turn off the permanent in-built cheat-mode - i.e the insta-heals and insta-rezz 4) Replace the endless chests full of useless vendor trash with the *occasional* interesting treasure 5) No more traps, unless they kill you - dead - permanently. The rogue's hand should be trembling. 6) More zoom out 7) Full custom party, no forced companions J. -
I want two naked dwarf-girls mud-wrestling in the first expansion. If they leave out naked hairy dwarven women having sex, it's a politically incorrect game, and I will complain. J.

heh,, ok maybe a bigger party, and the class-specific challenge shouldn't necessarily have to be dealt with as a part of the main campaign. Reg. traps - they made an attempt in IWD2 with the rolling boulder in Dragon's Eye. The dungeon in Chult had a collapsing roof/wall which did 60-70 something hps. Other than that, most traps in bg/iwd/nwn resulted in little more than the loss of a potion of extra healing for me. I guess combat oriented crpgs have to have combat-oriented thieves and mages, as well as fighters, but it would add some flavour if they implemented some class-specific stuff once in a while. A great aspect of BG2 was the main char controlling a stronghold/guild. Ouch, Im OT here, but rp'ing and using strongholds / members of thief-guilds etc to acquire something or get vital info reg. the OC-story would open up for some interesting rp-STRATEGIES and TACTICS :D. J.

Balance.. IMHO, in a good rpg-setting it's unnecessary to balance classes damage-wise as long as they all play important roles in the campaign. Take the second Conan-movie; the thief - Marek - is a total clown and completely hopeless, yet indispensable. In the same way, the party's mage - Akiro, saves the day a few times. He defeats a at least one major opponent in a very particular mage-battle. Why shape crpgs after a D&D 4'th ed. model where every class does exactly 3[W] damage on a certain level, whether they are fighters or mages? Systems and settings like that are just unimaginative. One thing that frustrated me to no end with NWN1 was all the useless acid-traps which did 10-20-something hps. As a fighter I just walsed thru them and paid no attention. Now if the OC had a few original and completely lethal traps, playing a rogue might have been interesting. Or if a locked treasure-chamber was accessible only to an experienced thief. When a char of every class can pick a lock, open it with a spell or bash open the chest - it just gets boring. And when they all do the same damage, it's just a watered down consol-system. Rp gone. Neverwinter Nights Premium Modules Pulled Down
Junai replied to ramza's topic in Computer and Console
Must admit I'm totally uninformed, but I was thinking the exact same thing when I tested DA for 3 hrs the other day. My immediate reaction was that this was NWN2, only.. better. Cam works better, no gliding avatars, animations are improved. Did Bio hand down a premature DA-engine to OE, and then watch as OE released NWN2 - learning from their mistakes and fixing them in DA? I wouldn't be surprised if they saw NWN2 as a free Beta-test for DA, coz all the shyte that bugged me to no end about NWN2 was gone. Bio knows their stuff. Shame on them for giving up D&D and going rpg-lite with auto-rezz consolized EA-cookie cutter world tho. And afaic, they can keep all their PnP-products, Gaider-novels and all that fluff. I hope EA don't turn them into a s**t-factory. J. -
Actually, I do like the cutscenes quite a bit. Not too much text, fairly interesting conversations, and good gfx & atmosphere. I'm sure there will be some more diplomacy/intimidate/persuade- options later. Sometimes I wish I could cut straight to the chase @ the merchants tho. J.

So you actually WANT to spend time on constantly shuffling potions and healing spells even outside of combat? Or the even more retarded option of going to sleep in the middle of a bloody zombie-infested dungeon?!! I just dont get some people. I miss the rpg-atmosphere. Roll, create and develop each character. Explore, sustain wounds, set up camp at the end of the day, boil - prepare - and ingest herbs, have the cleric use first aid and heal some wounds. It's all; "We've no time to bleed! We're gotto save the world!".. ftsk! However, with a game like this, which feels consolized, it'd probably be boring. The only thing we've gotto wait for is Morrigan stripping down.. everything else seems to be rpg on speed. should be the other way 'round.. J.

Played it for 3 hrs, and it's better than I expected. It runs very well. Loved the graphics, and animations are good, but I still like NWN1 anim. better. However, I'm never gonna get used to; -forced companions -weird AI (why is Alistair charging the revenant across the bridge? I instr. the fool to stay on the genlock archer!!) -difficult inventory (drag potion to quickslot 5 times before it S T A Y S there!!!!) -cam that suddenly zooms in and treats me to a perfectly useless view of a tree or a roof -monster-huge glowing avatar-circles (which char did I choose?? they all glow!) -cutscenes every 2 minutes -railroading, no chance to explore whatsoever -auto-resurrection and healing .. Mmm.. I'd buy it if I had a decent computer. J.

*sigh*.. From a guy over at the Bio-boards; ------------------------- Quote: Posted 11/05/09 13:41 (GMT) by Akka le Vil Honestly, this entire ultra-regen is butchering a lot of the game, and I hate it more and more and more. A lot of fun and immersion has been sucked out of the universe. There is no difference if you end up a fight nearly full health or on the brink of death, all is erased in literally five seconds ; it means that all fights are inconsequential, they are numerous and always with lots and lots of enemies - if a fight isn't dangerous enough to potentially kill at least one character, it means nothing, as all consequences are repaired by the time you open the next door. There is absolutely no feeling of "going deeper and deeper into the darkness", because you're always at full capacity, always fresh just like when you entered the dungeon. This was all what I was afraid of, and more. Really a very, very bad design decision, which make the game bend on the "action game" genre in-between the dialogue phases. Quite disappointing. -------------------------------------------------------- So it's NWN2 all over again, with even more linearity and button-mashing? BLEH! The game plays itself, and the gamer is left to press the (mouse)button with his left hand, while he downs a beer with his right.. I'm sure the storyline is interesting, so I'll wait for DA: The Movie. J.

I'm always amused to hear the bigshots in the music-industry justify the inflated CD prices and their own fleeting reality. Having said that, I'm gonna pay for Dragon Age. ..but not before I get to check it out at a friends or at the store. I learned my lesson with NWN2. J.

So I went over to a friend's place to have a look at this DA CharGen for PC thing.. I'm totally confused. It's a strange blend of genres; stunning subtle artwork which hints of high adventure in a mature sword'n sorcery setting, combined with ultra-tacky blood'n-gore stuff, Marilyn Manson, and glimpses of that embarrassing sex-scene. Looks like daddy let the kids play around with the big project so they wouldn't be offended. Don't they have an art-director who could purge the project of all the tackiness and have the beauty emerge? I see great potential here, but there is sooo much crap still. And I hear disturbing rumors of combat being boring.. click- wait forever - nothing happens - put down your consol-controller and observe your characters fight etc.. I hope it's not shyte. Been waiting forever for this. I can't play IWD2 anymore. I need something new. J.
