Germany is no longer Charlie
I feel like doing the first part of the classic "I'm the goddamned Batman" rant but I'll hold back. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Je_suis_Charlie

Blarghagh replied to Infinitron's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I suppose another small difference is that even if you retrain a character, they retain the same stats - there's still a degree of risk in any character you start in PoE. I'm guessing you don't like retraining much either, though? Still, I think that the only real thing making your talent and ability choices matter in the long run in PoE is "I don't want to get bored slogging back to an inn / don't want my immersion broken". I mentioned that I feel similarly about how PoE treats Vancian casting - I don't think that "I could continue on with poor skills or refreshed spells, or I could inconvenience or bore myself" is a very meaningful choice. I wonder if there's a way to fix that without heavily penalising poor choices. (On a side note, I enjoy D3 just fine these days. Plus hardcore mode gives enough risk for me, personally. )

Blarghagh replied to Infinitron's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Question! How's this really different from retraining? Other than having to slog back to an inn, which you can do pretty much from anywhere in the game anyway, it's just a difference of convenience. Not saying I want the Diablo 3 system, mind.

Nerdgasm: Movies and Shows for Geeks and Nerds
I liked the first Pirates well enough, but the second and third are true guilty pleasures for me. They have a kind of longest saturday morning cartoon ever feel - a kind of sprawling chaotic saga about gods and monsters that I can't help but respect because of how completely and entirely it commits to its own insanity - they're never good but at least they never played it safe. In comparison, the fourth tried to dial it down and came out seeming much more dull and tired and I'm not confident this one's not going to play it even more safe based on looking EXACTLY like the stuff that came before.

Okay, that's fair. The first half or so was admittedly great. Just surprised me to see it in a top 10 I guess.

I agree, and it's that angle I found interesting. He was the protagonist, but he wasn't the hero. It was almost like an art-house character film, until they suddenly decided to add explosions and make him the hero after all. Like, why? @Hiro:

Blarghagh replied to Mygaffer's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)The in-game bestiary said Xuarips cannot speak iirc. Either way I don't actually care, I was just continuing the politically tinged ridicule of Xaurip romance that came before me.

Passengers? Really? I'm surprised because I thought that was half a good movie that suddenly gets afraid the audience has ADHD and drops its story entirely to get cliche and start blowing **** up. I was halfway expecting a giant mechanical spider by the end.

So who is working on the game?
Blarghagh replied to Flouride's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Honestly, I normally like Chris' writing a lot but I didn't like Durance and GM at all. They felt very gamey, like conversation puzzles to win with time limits and such, and Durance specifically felt like he was more of a exposition dump with characterization than an NPC. Not saying that's his fault, considering his claim they were extremely toned down and altered.

Blarghagh replied to Mygaffer's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Ain't that the truth. If you kickstarted it, and a promised feature turned out to be **** and ruins the game, what do you do? People already paid for that feature.

From the Twitch Q&A: enchanting and ceiling
Blarghagh replied to Boeroer's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I don't mean to be a nag, but judging from the description I think the term you're looking for is ceiling. You can stack enchantments until it hits the ceiling, not until it's "sealed". Don't have a problem with your arguments though, although I guess it's kind of boring if you keep the same stuff all the time. Is that a big enough problem to implement such a ceiling?

Poll on preferred party size
Blarghagh replied to Lanyon's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Can you please, please, stop misrepresenting what was said regarding UI. At no point has Obsidian said "the reason we've decided to run with five character parties is because the UI won't allow it", what they actually said (in response to a question about modding the game to allow six character parties) was "it should be possible to do, but it will be tricky because of the UI". This is not the same, and I've pointed out to you before that it's not the same. Will we be able to mod the party size from 5 to 6 characters if we don't care about balance issues? JS: No. The UI is really designed around that. Well, I mean—I can't say for sure, who knows what you can do with modding. I wouldn't say that it's impossible to do almost anything. Will it work well? I couldn't tell you. AD: It wasn't easy to mod the first game at all other than changing portraits and sound files. JS: Modding a lot of stuff will be easier in Pillars 2. Modding the party size from 5 to 6...certainly possible, if you want to do that that's cool. I don't know how the UI is going to react to that and everything because things are spaced out for increased legibility for 5 characters, but there you go. Now can stop, stop trying to find faults of others so that you feel that you are intimidating people or silencing people to stop preferring 6 party characters? i don't see any point in continue any argument because i don't give a damn about your reasoning or whatsoever. if 5 party characters or less doesn't matter to you, as i said stop replying if it doesn't concern you. the reason i'm posting because 6 party characters is a big deal for me and so i'm only requesting Obsidian to perhaps allow an option to unlock 6 party characters in the options. no need modding whatsoever. No offense, but I think you're misreading what Josh is saying. The question he's answering is about the possibility modding a 6th member back in, not about why they moved from 5 to 6.
