  1. When I finally got the ghost ship I named it The Black Tear in honor of that guy who swallowed the pearl but it never seems to show up, pretty pouty about that tbh.
  2. This is largely wrt single class ciphers, haven't played around much with multiclassing them. I feel like a lot of the point of playing, and preferring, a cipher was lost when spells got moved to a per encounter basis. They used to offer a certain kind of consistency, reliability, convenience that just doesn't really matter anymore. When I was playing an ascendant I'd spend what felt like what was half the fight (it's really not but it felt that way) plinking away with my melee/ranged to get to the real meaty parts (that falls into this awkward space of 1) taking too long to reach for mook mobs 2) stops halfway through decent fights but takes too long to achieve again for that final bit 3) Sisyphusing boss battles) but why bother with that when I can be dialled up to 11 for every fight with a wizard? Yes, the mind control is nice, I just don't wanna spend the entirety of the game running around whisper of treasoning every encounter. Also, it's tedious force attacking them after their friends are dead. The two most powerful spells are DoT and while it's still okay with disintegrate DoaTC takes waaaaay too long, either it'll be dead through more conventional means or you'll be. AoE damage is subpar and you get better CC with the other spellcasting classes (outside of the mind control I mean). They're also kinda squishy, lacking the robustness of melee characters but also not having the same degree of buffs and/or heals the other spellcasters have. It's still very cool class conceptually. I really like the idea of being a psychic (though I wish there was more acknowledgement of that fact, especially from other ciphers) but underwhelming is a good word for how I feel about it atm and I think it needs more than just some spreadsheet rejiggering to make it a compelling option.
  3. I wanna play the most ~explosion noises~ magic user possible. Currently I've been using vaporous wizardry + fractured casque for fun times but I wanna reroll cuz of some bugs/better quest continuity choices. Currently my thought process is something like: the most explody wizard I can get would be an evoker nature godlike right? That's +2 PL for the damage spells. I'll miss some of the spells but tbh I get the most mileage out of evocation, enchantment and illusion anyway. But with a godlike I won't be able to wear the casque which makes vaporous wizardry a liiitle iffy, not irrevocably but I'd need to be more mindful of placement than I currently am and there's something fun about zipping around the battlefield that I'd miss. The most intuitive answer would be, well just drop nature godlike and pick evoker with some other race. But (and this is a silly psychological thing I realize) then I'd lose out on 1 PL and then my brain goes well is 1 PL really worth dropping transmutation and conjuration for? No. And that's how I wound up playing a generalist, again. But I want MAXIMUM 'SPLOSIONS The other option would be to drop casqueplay and go with nature evoker + druid (fury probably, not optimal but I like the idea of turning into a storm) to make up for the 'lack' of spells I'd otherwise have with vaporous wizardry. Downside of this is that I miss the best wizard spells like withering wind and salvo and that 100% reflection one but maybe with the PL there's enough damage to go around that it doesn't matter? I'd also be able to use Ninaegaegswrgs grimoire more consistently for that nice raw damage beam spell and the paralyzing fireball. So the three options are: 1. Nature evoker ~ just be more mindful when using vaporous/take concentration boosting items and perks 2. Non-godlike evoker ~ split the diff 3. Sorcerer ~ have plenty of spells, but no top shelf picks Thoughts? Which'd you go with?
  4. Yeah, sure that's reasonable take and what I'm assuming is up as well but I don't really get the point in giving the options in the first place if the implementation is gonna be so half ass. I'm comfortable assuming it's a bug and not simply beneath Obsidian's notice until told otherwise. Besides, as I noted this has tangible gameplay consequences in the fact that non-kith helmsman not being recognized in events that check the helmsman skill, I haven't tested how many other events might be effected tho. In a SP game the RP aspect is much more important than the balance aspect for me and if the devs can take the time to rebalance everything they should be able to take the time to add non-voiced dialogue for the characters they saw fit to add to the game in the first place instead of having those characters be functionally absent beyond their stats (and that not even consistently as is). If adding tags + dialogue is too much work then even removing whichever one checks for race would work too, a weirdly eloquent Worthless Idiot would be preferable to an entirely absent one.
  5. This isn't a bug - crewmen with the Wilder trait can't participate in text events, with the logical explanation being that 90% of them don't speak Aedyran. Birta and Worthless Idiot's speak just fine. Big Mouth doesn't seem to speak but we know Vithrack are at least capable of communicating telepathically which leaves Mother Sharp-Rock who is indeed mute, I haven't found other non-kith crew yet. If this is Obsidian's excuse then I'd like at least for the non-kith members who can speak to participate in crew events. The event with Birta also isn't really something she needed to speak in anyway, I needed her skill check that at least is blatantly a bug cuz she might as well not have been on the crew at that point.
  6. ie Birta is my helmsman when trying to sail through the fanged strait, the game uses Beodul instead. Obsidian should address this before the non-kith crew unionize to address this slight collectively.
  7. Bumping this to ask whether anyone knows if it's been fixed with the latest patch.
  8. I don't think I saw it in the notes but are non-kith sailors recognized in their ship slots now? My ship of misfits wasn't really working what with helmsman Birtha constantly asking me if we shouldn't have someone at the wheel. They also didn't show up during events.
  9. If ya'll like this kinda game and romance I'd recommend Expeditions: Viking, it doesn't get enough love. It even has (as a straight female) hate ****ing!
  10. It mentions it gives +2 power pool and when I google power pool it takes me to power source which has stuff like arcane and nature under it. It works for melee people though (like guile users). I'm guessing it's working as designed because +2 spells at every level would be too much fun but couldn't hurt to check.
  11. So I have a question about Aloth's romance, if you "rivalmance" him ie kiss him when he hates you do you still get the ending slide that says you're a couple?
  12. So it's between him and Maia for me, I was eyeing Aloth but he has such a stick up his ass (and not the fun kind) and Xoti is... er, something. I haven't had Maia around for long so I'm not sure what kind of person she is but she has an attractive voice and seems competent without being all "Watcher you made a joke how dare you not focus on your duuuuttttyyyyyy."
  13. So I never actually finished PoE, are Skaen and Woedica working together or does she have some kind of hold over him? Or is the implication that he's doing exactly what his portfolio implies and it's just a long game?
  14. I haven't gotten very far (restartitis) but there's an early conversation between the gods where Magran mentions that Eothas might return (like, again) if he hasn't absorbed all his children. Do we find out what she means by that further on in the story? Cuz I'm assuming it means godlikes and if it means godlikes then it means at least part of their function is to serve as horcruxes for the gods. Also, for anyone whose gotten far enough does the fact that you're a death godlike ever come up in conversation with Berath?
  15. So I've been wanting to buy the 20 000 ship, mount the long distance cannons and use the combo to keep out of boarding reach and poke 'em full of holes while dodging cannon fire. The stats say there's a 55% chance to be hit (if I read it correctly), I'm assuming that's the base and then the enemy's cannoneer skill gets taken into account, does movement detract from enemy accuracy like it does from mine? Like if I jibe cannon accuracy goes way down, is that true for them targeting me too? Actually since that ship mounts cannons at aft and fore (back and front in case I misused those terms) could I just avoid being shot at by making sure the enemy ship is never facing me from the sides?
  16. Obviously the goal is to max focus ASAP, I've been using dual pistols which have been adequate and get points for style but I've heard good things about Frostseeker and apparently there's a rifle somewhere with a 75% speed bonus. Any weapon groups or specific weapons that shine here?
  17. He really doesn't appreciate my Watcher's penchant towards irreverent dialogue.
  18. I kinda wanna be a pirate just for the sake of it (and a ghost ship apparently and also because they're stylish af) but prooobably not if their ending is just unrelentingly awful. I know, I know, pirates they're terrible people and etc but is there at least a little bit of leeway/room for interpretation or should I just veer towards the capitalists?
  19. Them lacking competition and it being harder than it looks are hardly mutually exclusive. More and more companies seem to want in on the ridiculously disproportionate amount of conversation romance generates just without any real effort taking away from the 'real' content. I think it's fair to say that regardless of how cringy Bioware's romances are perceived to be the end result is a lot less so than you get with Bethesda or, now, Obsidian.
  20. Seems like Bioware remains king of companion hill. On the plus side this soothes my restartitis.
  21. So I've seen this guy's snow elf being done, would greatly appreciate his moon godlike being done too if it'd make a good watercolour:
  22. Yeah though mine's about RP and not class. Started with an orlan but then I read that dialogue check count thing and then I decided to try a death godlike but it just feels... eh. Too much of a special hurricane yah know? Plus something about a tiny thing that's amazingly skilled at murder tickles me so I might roll an orlan again or go in an entirely different direction and be like an elf or something. And actually it is about class a bit because at first I had an beguiler/fury which doesn't have a ton of synergy but was nice for RP (and I liked turning into a storm) now I'm pure cipher but I dunno if I think it's boring yet.
  23. I'm taking bets on how long it's gonna be before someone makes a bitter Bioware comment. Takers?
