  1. LOL in honour of this I resolve to actually play all of the games I now own on Steam.
  2. I really am going to buy one of those nice le creuset pans and smack myself hard in the face every time I hear someone talking about science as if it were an object, rather than a methodology.
  3. NSFW perspective.
  4. In a perfect world, maybe. With some really good teachers, certainly. In the world we live in, though, the purpose of school is indoctrination: to turn kids into good obedient little citizens consumers. In particular, with regards to teaching history, to turn them into good obedient patriotic unthinking cannon fodder laborers. Please calm down. This isn't 1984. Or Stalin's Putin's Russia. It takes a LOT of work to indoctrinate people. Teacher's simply don't have the time, or control over all the different channels of information. Ask Hurlshot. Anyway, point is still that the gun is what the devs make of it. What they choose to turn it into in terms of fights and powers. The gun itself is no more than a tool.
  5. No, just really in hurry, though it does feel that way when I try to read it... Still I believe that my point came across. (~Expendable) Ah. I see. i thought it was a kind of telescoping, russian-doll scenario.
  6. Strongly dislike. Would absorb dev time away from better stuff, for the sake of a tiny number of uber completionists. If you want it, mod it in, mate.
  7. BRACE FOR POP-PSYCH BRACE BRACE I am of the opinion that RPGs let us explore beyond our personal limitations. The obvious example is in physical skills. If there is a fascination with exploring morality, it's because many people find morality as limiting as physicality. On a good day I'd like to say that this is unhealthy. Morality isn't a cage. Morality is a compass. It is solid ground under your feet. A man who dreams himself evil ought to wonder why. However, having said that, morality is still interesting to me. I'm replaying The Witcher and it's refreshingly weird to have such an amoral world to move around in.
  8. People don't understand the purpose of school, IMO. It's not to teach you the truth. I don't know how the **** they'd do that, anyway. It's to teach you how to think; build up the mental muscles by obliging you to learn and manipulate different data types. By analogy, you might as well criticise circuit training because none of the actions undertaken are ones you would ever do in normal life. The relevance to the topic is that these weapon types fulfill a functional role. Their 'true' factual status and consistency is moot.
  9. Actually you were already on a watchlist. But it seems to be headed 'Tex Avery' so the watching may not be terrorism related.
  10. Paperwork. Ugh.
  11. I hope for your sake that you wrote that last post while having your face bitten by squirrels, Mor. Expandable Russian soldiers?
  12. Monetarize. With a 'z'.
  13. Noticed something I don't find sinister, but others might. Announced over Christmas that the British police are considering removing some senior ranks from the organisational structure. If one takes the increasingly popular view that some sort of NWO is on the way, then stripping out the purely professional senior ranks from the police is exactly what I'd do, to rob the forces of traditionalist inertia. It's pretty much what the Turkish government has done to their army in recent years. Except this is targeting the rank, not the men. Personally I think it's just a cost cutting exercise. And like most these days it's simplistic idiocy, rather than conspiracy. But I thought you chaps might enjoy it.
  14. And a merry Feargus to you, too.
  15. *fail post*
  16. Ah. Who wants a pristine goddamn electric guitar anyway, mate?
  17. I'm a little schoolboy too

  18. *mouth _literally_ hanging open* Conscript armies better than professional armies?
  19. Surprisingly cool day so far. Apart from graunching my teeth on a shotgun pellet from this pheasant (#firstworldproblems) it's been cool. Loads of people keep ringing me up, while I'm getting steadily blotto on amazing wine, listening to Vaginal Fantasy Bookclub, and playing Tropico 3.
  20. How are guns immersion breaking anyway? Are they too hard to imagine?
