  1. I really liked Kotor 2 a lot, and am sad because of its unrealized potential, but unless there's a good discount on a gold edition, I would be more po'ed than anything, at having to pay more for what I thought to get in the first place.
  2. Nar Shadaa is good for it, healing the guy, reparing the airspeeder. I think I also got influence with him for helping the czerka guy in the telos base. Not sure what else though....
  3. With Bioware, it's not such an issue of trust, since they have a very established pattern. HotU was far better than the OC, but was still extremely generic, and NWN, HotU, and KotOR all seem to have the same sort of basic and repetive design, and while KotOR was far more immersive, it was the same attempt at not being linear by creating 4 similar dungeons, zones, whatever, and allowing the player to simply mix up the order in which he visits them. That's still linear, it's just 4 lines instead of one, and it ultimately seriously undermines the potential for character in the world, and narrative in the overall game. With that sort of consistency, I think it's safe to guess generally what their next title'll be like. With Obsidian, because they're new, it's a lot harder to say what their future products'll be, but I thought they did an excellent job making KotOR 2 more immersive and less generic, (not talking textures here " ), and so I'm much more excited about anything they make than anything Bioware will make now.
  4. Werid, Bao Dur got angry at me when I killed that guy at Telos.........
  5. That's got to be a joke, but if somehow against all odds it isn't, it's not like I have any more faith in humanity to lose.......
  6. I don't know how they can necessarily do it, but at least Revan had some sort of an ending. The resurfacing of memories later and what the composite personality is like is somewhat irrelevant to ending what happened in KotOR 1, because like it or not, he only is who he is when the player controls him, and before *and* after that, he is just like another NPC. When the old memories come back, he ceases to be the old PC. Therefore, the PC had his ending, and Revan can have his ending as an NPC. The exile did not have an ending. The next game simply has to pick up with who's on the Ebon Hawk flying into that blasted nebula and why. Period.
  7. The fact that he's not planning on killing you doesn't mean he hasn't given you a good reason to avoid Missouri "
  8. No one will deny that it has problems, and the technical ones at least really do need fixing, but despite all of these things, and even the ending, I still had more fun than on the first kotor, which was one of my favorite games, though hk wasn't quite as fun this time around, but maybe that was just the novelty of it. That they made t3 a good character, and in fact, the mastermind of everything that happens in the game, is pretty damn cool too. In the first game, he was just a waste of space.. In terms of making a good experience, as opposed to bioware's overly repetitve, and generic designs (nwn, hotu, kotor), Obsidian's shown they are far superior imo.
  9. Yeah, the depth of so much of the story indicates that at worst, they were over-ambitious, and things aren't so simple as you indicate, especially for a start-up company. In a perfect world with an infinite amount of contracts, sure. They have some responsibility, but Lucas Arts has most of it, when you consider the nature of the problems, and Obsidian still demonstrated great potential and there's more good in this admittedly flawed game than in many many other games. I and many others had a hell of a lot of fun, and what's good in it gives me great hopes for NWN2.
  10. Yeah, it's weird that a LS jedi wouldn't have that option. You don't *need* to take him on killing expeditions anyway.....
  11. It's Obsidian's board. They pay for it. They have to do what they have to do to make sure other publishers want to sign with them. Likewise, we have to do what we have to do to make sure we get a functional product. Don't confuse a free gift, (the forum), with a right, (like, say, never buying another Lucas Arts prodcut again). That is the kind of thing that will get all of this ignored. Hopefully this has garnered some attention at Lucas Arts. If not, the anger will just come around again with LA's next release, or people just won't care enough to buy it. Star Wars can't last forever, and they'll eventually run out of gullible 11 year olds to sell to with a brand name, and at that point, when they've lost their established customer base, they will have serious problems....
  12. LA deserve it 110%, but Obsidian doesn't. Obsidian was taken advantage of, it seems to me, and the worst thing you can say about them is they were a bit too ambitious in a bad situation. I was pretty sceptical about that before I got the thing, thinking it might be one of those fake conspiracy theories that have lingered around other games that didn't quite measure up, but this is very different. There's so much excellent stuff in this, that if they get the chance, their future productions could be really great, and supporting them is JUST as important as sticking it to Lucas Arts. I suppose with such ranting I'm not helping though......
  13. Naw, they're like Nihilus. Consumer problems and loyalty are beneath their notice.. It's fairly interesting that there's been such a growing backlash against LA for a couple years now. Hell, I was brand-imprinted by them as a small kid, and even I'm sick of it now. It's too bad that this sort of stuff only happens on the dev boards though, since it could really cause problems for them. We need to remember that most of the KotOR 2 content is brilliant, and that just as much as we lash back against LA, we need to support a good startup dev, (NWN2 anyone?) or we really have little right to complain. That also involves moderating our language and being respectfully angry at LA so that there's no reason for them to penalize Obsidian, which clearly did it's damnedest to release a great game.
  14. Dantooine last just because it doesn't make sense to go there if you know you're going to have to go back, (LS at least). That said, the magic instant restoration is weird, especially if you've killed all the jedi as a darksider..... They should have had a cutscene of the jedi masters whistling while they worked.......
  15. I thought people couldn't reproduce it and he was just making stuff up?
  16. The breath control thing was completely useless. I just used a gas-mask and never got poisoned.......
  17. I got a "grey" jedi robe once which I think referenced Jolee as an example
  18. I suppose looking at Nihlus as a red herring does make it better, but it didn't work because of other inconsistencies in the ending. If the surrounding material were polished, or complete even, his role would make sense, but as it is, you don't know if he's that way by design or deadline. Personally, I wanted a little more of Atris. She looked like a really interesting character, but didn't get enough development, it was more like a quick cut to Bates up in the hotel talking to his mom.....
  19. He was the hardest for me too. Pretty odd for somebody who acts like he just missed the day's rerun of McGuyver to start fighting like that....
  20. Where would these sith be? It looks like the Republic has planets all over the galaxy, so if there are ones not explored, they are just randomly interspersed, not some continguous "empire". If the Republic ever ran into the true sith before, then they would know where they are now. Or are we just supposed to assume that there's a large chunk of the galaxy where no one ever goes? If that link saying the republic never knew the sith empire existed is true, when and how does that change before the movie time?
  21. With the possible exception of DNF, delays aren't so bad. I bet Valve thought they were in trouble when everyone was sending them hatemail and whatnot, but they stuck by their guns, made a quality game, and I doubt many people haven't forgotten or moved on, happy about the game, not bitter about the delay.
  22. The problem is that since people figured out that Darth Vader means "Darth Dad", the symbolic naming of these guys has continued, and with that repetition is just obvious and trite at this point. Dart Tyrannus, Sidious, and Maul, are all too blatantly descriptive, and thus rather stupid really. That was one of the few good things about Malak and Revan. They just had names..... Nihilus, Sion (this one bothers me for some reason... I mean Darth Israel??? come on), and Traya, are like the prequel darths in sounding rather silly.
  23. HL2 actually stuck together, and from reading various interviews, a lot of the material at least that was cut was not due to time constraints, so much as just editing. I suppose, after Ravenholm, they thought the docks bit was redundant or something. Valve took the time they needed, at the cost of initial resentment, and if you look, there's not a ton of repetition in the game really. I think they tried to simply cut it down so it would be constantly fresh to keep tension and interest.
  24. Ok, if you're imagining that "Luke" is a stand-in for whatever alien word, let's say @#$()*U , which is really his name, just imagine that "Lunar" is just a translation of DKJDSH!!!!1111111111 which actually means "of or pertaining to a minor celestial body in orbit of a larger body", with that definition translated from "SDJDSH sdkfjhy SJKUREUY lksdjf WOEURIOUWERIH sdjkfnkjn OWIEJROIJ" or whatever that language is you want to posit, of course..... Then we're all happy, and you can let this thread die, and go back to hunting small animals with pointy sticks, standing in your bathtub wearing flippers and a snorkel, or whatever the hell you do when you feel like you need to invest your life with some shred of meaning....
