Mira and Grenades and Rockets
GhostofAnakin replied to Chris Avellone's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
More challenging, but fun in its own way. I bought every single piece of specialized armor I could find (preferably the bounty hunter stuff) and made my team into a raiding party. -

Believe me, I know what you mean. I can't mod to save my life, but the toolset (it's on that forum www.lucasforums.com, where all the other mods are listed) was easy to use. Literally 1 minute to open the file, switch the character class, save and exit and load the KOTOR game. With the toolset, it's literally as easy as opening a word document, changing the spelling of one word, then saving and exiting with that new change to the document. -

You can manually use the toolset to switch your character, and those in your party, to not be Jedi. It takes maybe 1 minute after you become a Jedi to do it. Save your game after you are welcomed into the Jedi order, exit the game, load the toolset, then switch your character class from "Soldier/Guardian" to just "Soldier" (can't remember if you can do a multi-class regular class or not) and play through like that. Then when you meet up with the other Jedi and they join your party, save the game and do the same for each of them. I've played through one time where I made my entire party a bounty hunter party (not a bounty hunter class, since that wasn't in it) in which none of them were able to use the Force and weren't even able to equip a lightsaber, instead having to rely on blasters and whatnot. -
Mira and Grenades and Rockets

Again you use a false argument that has nothing to do with the topic. I've already stated numerous times that I AGREE with you that a game which allows for non-Jedi selection would increase the overall replayability. That's not what's at issue here. It's the blanket statement that it is "stupid to have non-Jedi NPCs since you can't be one". In the user-made adaptation of the toolset, you could be made to play as a non-Jedi as well. As a matter of fact, you can make it so NONE of your party are Jedi or have Force ability. -
Mira and Grenades and Rockets
GhostofAnakin replied to Chris Avellone's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Two different issues, but same general idea. That being "it being stupid to have NPCs of classes/races/subraces/etc. that you, as the PC, cannot choose". It's just semantics to differentiate, since it's basically the same thing. Point being, it makes no sense to say it's "stupid" to have NPCs of a certain class just because you can't play that class. It's about diversity. It's just as valid as saying it was stupid to confront a Hutt, since you can't be a Hutt. Or it was stupid that you had a Wookiee in your party when you couldn't choose to be a Wookiee yourself. So then that becomes a "race" issue, and we go back to what I said about NWN and most D&D style games' "limitations". -
Mira and Grenades and Rockets

What does the different settings have to do with your statement? You're complaining that since we can't play as a character (in this case, non-Jedi) then it's stupid to have that character as an NPC. Hades, too often you make an argument, but then completely ignore facts that make your argument look weak by saying they don't apply. -
Mira and Grenades and Rockets
GhostofAnakin replied to Chris Avellone's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Diversity among party members? In NWN, we can't play as Dragons or as kobald, so should those characters not exist to interact with? I know you're on a crusade, but that was one of the less intelligent things you've said. -
It would have been cool if, in certain situations against "lesser" enemies, you could use the Force to pull their weapon out of their hands and they realized they were in over their head and ran away, rather than all being mindless drones who attack at all cost even when they're being slaughtered and a retreat would make sense.

Mira and Grenades and Rockets

Sounds like some quests will involve running over mines in a quick amount of time. Cool features. Looks like the characters are starting to flesh out a bit now. -
I agree with that somewhat. However, what you just proved is that how each Jedi class was implemented wasn't done well enough to provide a different experience in playing through depending on which Jedi you chose. The fact that each Jedi class played the same isn't proof that the game needs to allow non-Jedi characters also. What it proves is the implementation of the Jedi classes wasn't diverse enough. If they added a non-Jedi class to the current set up, it would play through no differently since the flaw is in the implementation of the Jedi classes.
-
How many games actually allow that completely though? Not just in terms of picking a beginning class, but actually playing a character that isn't predetermined? BG2, that whole Child of Bhaal thing. Yes, you could play a different class, but the CHARACTER was always going to be the same. FO2, you're the chosen one. Yes, again you could change which classes you played as, but essentially you were the same person regardless and had the same tasks that needed done. That's exactly what KOTOR has done. The story has made you a Jedi, so it makes very little sense to play as anything but a Jedi. I've said it dozens of times. I agree with you (Hades) that it would be a great game if you could play through as a non-Jedi. BUT (and we're talking a Jennifer Lopez sized but), within the context of THIS story, it wouldn't make sense.

Sounds like an interesting feature.

When they announce the cast, people will know wich of the old NPC'd appear in TSL, wich would be a Major Spoiler imho. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not necessarily. Someone like Jennifer Hale is capable of doing the voice for a variety of characters, and thus she might be a voice for one of the new heroines, rather than it necessarily being Bastila.

Going back and playing KOTOR 1
GhostofAnakin replied to Tyrell's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
There's a way around that, at least in the PC. You won't get rid of it completely, but it makes playing through envirosuit/spacesuit parts more tolerable. What you have to do is have any form of Force speed active the moment you use the door that takes you 'outside'. That way, the game still keeps the increased movement speed when wearing the suit, but it won't count as if the power was active, so it won't wear off. You will still be sluggish, but not quite so much. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, I knew about that exploit. Actually, I wasn't referring to that specific part, I just happened to quote someone who didn't like that part. I just meant that there are certain areas I'd rather not have to do (the redundancy of the Taris undercity for example), isn't something I want to sit through again. -
Going back and playing KOTOR 1
GhostofAnakin replied to Tyrell's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
That's one of the reasons I'm having trouble playing through one more time to set up my TSL game. As a whole, I enjoy KOTOR immensely. But there are parts of the game that I'd rather not play through, but are unavoidable. Ah well, I guess I'll decide when it's closer to release date. -
Most popular PC face from the Original
GhostofAnakin replied to Azazel005's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The one I liked best for my guardian was the white guy with the blonde buzz cut that looked like a marine. For my consular I liked the white guy with the longish, brown/black hair. I can't remember which female face I used for Revan when playing through as a female. Probably one of the brown hair do's. I just can't picture a powerful Jedi as a ditzy blonde chick. -
I read that fast. I thought you said you wanted the entire universe to blow you.

Doubt it. GOTY will probably go to a game that's "well known", such as Halo2 or Half-Life2. I think V:tM is too....gothy to be mainstream and will probably deter some people from buying it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Bah, Goth is "mainstream" already, it will sell <{POST_SNAPBACK}> But those who dislike the whole goth thing will be tempted to avoid it, when regularly they might have bought it had it not been seen as "gothy". I can't remember if I replied to this topic yet or not, but I'm playing through as a LS Jedi, but will be answering all the questions to make it a DS ending for KOTOR1. I want the entire universe against me.

Which is why, when the US XBox version is released, I won't be visiting this forum. I might still drop by the NWN2 forums, but I'm steering clear of all KOTOR2 forums in December.

Choices at Beginning of K2
