Different strokes for different folks. The only way you would accomplish is making other classes attractive for people who like Cipher. There are people who like other classes because they those differ from Cipher ! The Cipher resource is convenient, but not my favorite part of the class. What I like the most is their spells are different mechanically. Priests, Druids and Wizards have ball area spells, cone area spells, buffs, debuffs damage. That's pretty much it, very few spells that don't fit that. Ciphers have spells that require careful positioning, or fun to use beams, or stat stealing, or single target nukes/debuffs (they are conspiciously absent from other classes). They have spells which target ally but hurt an enemy. The part I agree about is that it would be fun to have unique resources for each/most melee classes. Chanter/Monk are the only melee classes that have a unique resource. But even ranger can be considered to has his own resource - his animal companion, and positioning. Flanking. Many of his powers work only as long as animal companions is up. Stunning Arrows lets them stunlock an opponent. The equivalent ability Master's Call is hilarious when you lure enemies between the ranger and his companion.

As for surviving the biawac, the animancer hanging on the tree in Gilded Vale hints that some souls can't be picked up. Some souls are too heavy. Souls splinter and wear away over time (Rymgard), but some stay in good shape. -------------------- Trolls... There are enemies which are pretty much immune to stuff. Skeletons are incredibly tough to piercing and slashing. Trolls resist blunt attacks very well. You can brute force your way through that, but it's painful and it's much more effective to use a vulnerable damage type. It works the other way too. I had a really big problem against boars in Magran's Fork. Nothing I tried seemed to work. Until I cast Woodskin, and they just fell apart. 1. So ? 0. They are not truly undead. Their bodies are still alive, their organs can be pierced and they can be frozen. In real world, spiders aren't immune to venom. Neither are snakes. Honey badgers are not venomous, but they resist poison very well. Banshees: I'm a better player than you. I've found a way to counter them. I cast Prayer against Fear (ideally from a scroll, so Durance can cast Prayer against Paralysis or whatever it's called). In that time, Kana is singing a chant to add some willpower. Even if paralysis happens, it won't last long and banshees are cut to pieces in that time. Most spirits are also weak to mind attacks, and have poor fortitude. You need to exploit their weaknesses. Corrupted Druids: Death interrupts druids pretty well. Focus fire those who cast it. Potion of Bulwark against the Elements saves from shock damage. Seven Men blah blah, the Kana chant, grants mass resistance to shock. Woodskin grants resistance to shock. I had two druids in my party, Hiravias is in the same zone as corrupted druids. Knockdowns from Eder and Itumaak. You need to learn some new tactics. Honestly, I had more trouble with lions. Comparing level2 Mindblades with level5 or 6 Firebug ? Really ? "Rounds" is an artificial construct for tabletop gaming, to make it easy to calculate how long a spell should last. With a computer keeping track of that, they are no longer needed. Rounds also make it really hard to have slight increases in spell duration. Say you have some boots +1 to Intelligence or +2 to Intelligence. In a IE game this could mean +1 round every two stat points, or even every 4 stat points for more powerful spells. In PoE, you can have half a second extension with no problem. It's not true all spells can be cast "in one round". There are fast, average, and probably some long spells. I like short buffs, because it makes me think when to use each buff. There are situations where using a short-lived buff like Circle of Protection is still very good. I had a party with three spellcasters - two druids and one priest. Priest casts Circle, the other two some other buffs, and this gives me some breathing room before more long-lived buffs are up. Buffs not stacking is nice, because it limits the amount of mindless buff stacking you do before or during combat. You just use stronger buffs in tougher fights, weaker or none at all in ordinary ones. Stat reduction - you can bring up character screen and see what each stat does when it deviates from 10. You can also pause and check the in-game encyclopedia. Overall, it seems you are experiencing a culture shock. Your post looks like a confused rant. It's all over the place and there's no rhyme or reason to it. You just don't like things being different.

Ranger should get an overhaul
b0rsuk replied to Chryyso's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
If you're comparing bow rangers to firearm rogues, don't forget to include -5 Accuracy penalty. A ranger can do fine with a bow, a rogue - not really. -
Let's invent some talents!

Animal Squire (Ranger) Your animal companion is trained to reload ranged weapons - crossbow, pistol, arquebus, arbalest, blunderbuss. If your animal is close by, he will reload ranged weapons in the not currently wielded weapon sets. A honey badger could totally pull that off. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gw-qG0_WbGQ- 38 replies

Rogue attack skills multiply the base weapon damage, so why not ? I would say it depends on how you built your Eder. My very first game had me hire Eder before he even had a chance to learn the Guardian skill. I built him as a glass cannon. Without a shield or many defensive talents, Eder is going to get more criticals. Critical defense sounds nice. Fighters certainly have many skills and talents which boost damage, and their accuracy is already top tier.

News flash: apparently wizards work very well in melee (spellswords), and that doesn't take many talents to make a hybrid. So much for squishies. I think priest is the squishiest class in the game. https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/78398-completed-the-game-as-a-spellsword-just-sharing-the-experience-and-what-i-learnt/

While we're at it, "Fine" doesn't modify item NAME, either. Have a fine small shield, enchant it to exceptional, and it's still called "fine small shield".

Haha, do you know how my conversation with Thaos went ? Thaos: "How did you find me ???" Borsukrates: "I'm not here to talk." I just loved this response ! By the time I got to him, I despised him so much, and I was so angry at him. I thought there was no point in asking him anything, he would just lie and feed me religious bull****.

I mostly approve of new stats of ranger's animal companions. More Constitution here, less Might there, mostly no big deal. However, they got one undeserved nerf: intelligence. On most character classes, you get something in return for having more of other stats, or you can build around low Intelligence. But ranger companions have so few abilities it IS a big deal. For example: - Takedown (a.k.a. Knockdown) has 5s base duration, but now actually 3.8s !!! Hardly worth getting. - Lion's roar lasts for 11s instead of 15s - Stag (the one with carnage) has significantly reduced area. I propose that something is done either about the Intelligence, or about the durations. Faithful Companion Additionally, Ituumak was already very vulnerable to various charming effects, and that was WITH the "Faithful Companion" talent Sagani has, and 10/10 mental stats. Now all animals have even lower stats, I believe Boar is the only one that has the same Will because it has 15 Resolve. I think it's warranted to rethink the Faithful Companion talent. It could work a bit like Cipher's Psychic Backslash - once per encounter, it would protect from a charming effect completely. I'm just not noticing any benefit of Faithful Companion. Maybe it converts some hits to grazes, but either way it's not impressive.

It took me a second playthrough to realize this. Because I didn't remember what the vision around biawac was. I think the story is in some places told in a confusing or awkward way, but once you get all the pieces it makes a lot of sense and is very interesting. Act 2 was confusing to me until I went to the temple. Act 3 didn't have enough surprises and new information for most part. If you read books, I would recommend "Non-stop" by Brian Aldiss. It's a bit unfair to compare PoE to this, but there are some similarities. Non-stop has totally, absolutely bland characters and style, unlike PoE. It has a very interesting setting, like PoE. And it masterfully comes together in the last 1/3 of the book. Seriously, I was regretting picking this book up, and was going to finish it just for the sake of completeness. but it amazed me.

Ranger should get an overhaul
b0rsuk replied to Chryyso's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I find it funny that people complain about rangers not having enough abilities, but then their poor micromanagement leads their animal companions to be knocked out. I guess this comes from having Eder as the sole "tank" in the party. With support like that, no wonder an animal can't hold for long.
