  1. Threads have been filling up fast lately. New part incoming.
  2. You could add a "single vertical line" party formation or something, but I have doubts how effective it would be re: AI party members still not triggering traps or such - because of in the way objects/furniture and the shortest-distance-between-points that tend to confuse much of the generalistic AI pathing that I've observed.
  3. At least once a year I'm reminded about how I wish I'd kept the Star Trek action figures I got for Xmas when I was 6 or 8 or something. Spock, Kirk, McCoy, Scotty with cheap polyester uniforms and plastic tricorder/accessory pieces. I honestly don't remember what I did with them. Trashed them, I presume. ...I have vague memories of popping Kirk's head off, but maybe that was a dream.
  4. The Bag Man, with John Cusack and (in a small role) Robert DeNiro. Terrible title. The movie, as my hubby put it, is "really independent." eg, rather weird. Had some David Lynch flavor, perhaps. I always like Cusack and he's good, and DeNiro was ... DeNiro. At least he wasn't in family comedy mode. A few chilling moments, some weird sorta-comedy moments. I didn't feel much suspense and the last few minutes felt kind of tacked on, but it's an ok late-night type watch.
  5. Post limit and well beyond, I'm afraid. Feel free to create a second thread.
  6. I can follow the 2nd one without much problem but the 3rd one gives me a bit of trouble. Not a lot, but where I'll miss a word or two here and there. They're also cheating a little because some words in each .gif has a different frame property in terms of how long it's displayed. Being able to read/follow visual .gif speed text is not quite the same as actually reading a novel at 1000wpm either - which I can't do.
  7. This is being looked into. In the meantime, moving to the tech forum. Let me know via PM if you continue to have troubles.
  8. Me: We decided to hang out here, eat take-out, and watch movies. Friend: Heya. Hubs: Heya. Sounds good, what movies? Me: Terms of Endearment. Friend: And Steel Magnolias. Hubs: [ silence ] Me & Friend: Haha! Just kidding. *girl-giggles, fading as we swoosh over to kitchen* Hubs: (calling after us) Should I be afraid?
  9. That's good news, Enoch, and congrats. :D After some lunch, off to friend-sit some more. We'll probably watch maudlin movies and cry on each others shoulders. Either that or we'll watch silly, gory horror films and cackle. Either works as a catharsis method and you never know, with us.
  10. Coincidentally, I was watching Captain America on TV the other day. I think I liked it better upon a 2nd viewing. Not that I disliked it before, I just found it a bit dull. 2nd time, I liked the humor and chr./origin buildup more.
  11. I don't have awesome designs or anything - I just go with the idea that houses should be spread out in order to always have workers close to workplaces as the AI shuffles them around all the time. My main problem still figuring out how much food to produce. I don't find the Town Hall figures helpful - "food produced this year" doesn't seem right. Felt like in Caesar games it was simple to eventually figure out how many farms or clay pits etc. per 100 people, or whatever, but Banished feels more obscure, partly because you can make the farms various sizes. But it appears, however much "grey" is on your mini-map, the brown (food) should be 4 to 5 times as prevalent. I always overflow with food at 300-400 pop. but then start to fall behind. I get tired of building nothing but farms and forget ...
  12. It's a problem with most game trailers these days, especially the big title ones. It's like they're advertising a movie, not a video game.
  13. I don't even know the reference meaning behind this post and I still found it amusing for some reason.
  14. I reached 500+ Adults (700+ total eats-food citizens). Yay? But I expanded too rapidly (I getz impatienz) without building enough food infrastructure and the 200+ kiddies (more born constantly!) are scarfing the larders bare. I could reload an hour-earlier save and fix it easily enough but meh ... think I've had enough of this city for a while. Maybe on flat maps you could get 1800+ if you had the patience/organization of the devil. More if you reduce dependance on Gatherers/Foresters buy trading for firewood/food. A composite pic - which is really frakking hard to do, and it's still off kilter. Even tried a panorama composite program and that didn't help much. And it doesn't look as pretty when totally top-down viewed. Oh well. It's just town areas, not whole map. Time to try a new map seed - 20140227 <---this one looks pretty awesome for a 300-500 town in that huge middle space. Starvation Explosion imminent....
  15. My mother-in-law suicided by train some years ago. She didn't use a car. That was not a fun couple of months. And in a strange way, I felt the worst for the train conductor. (edit) I'm glad in this case the conductor was able to stop in time.
  16. "Relatively new" = 3-5 years for me, for tech. Usually. Typically I haven't had to replace a PSU during the life of using a PC ... maybe I should have to be safe, but I haven't. When I put my hand behind the case, the spot where the PSU fan is is pretty warm. But I think the GPU above it is warmer. Not sure about the CPU since it doesn't have a specific connected outlet to the outside. Just the 3 case fans sort near it that pull the overall air out so by then it's not directly so hot against a palm. But yeah, I can believe the CPU is a heater.
  17. That's interesting. Is that something relatively new or have some models "always" done that? Next time I get a PSU I'll have to keep it in mind. Don't think I've ever really checked my PSU fan per se...I've only occasionally noticed when gameplaying because the back of the case is spewing out hot air in all kinds of ways, since I don't have water cooling.
  18. For some reason, I am reminded of "Bobby" from The Brady Bunch. If he wore glasses and had a scar, that is.
  19. So, do most men actually want to work in high-stress, very competitive (maybe even "cutthroat") jobs? Or are they also conditioned in that they must do so or be considered a failure, if only because of annual income potentials? I get the stereotype that men may generally be more competitive in nature, which could lead them into wanting different types of vocations, but most of the guys I know would much rather just do their 8 hours, go home, crack a beer, and relax (or go hang out with friends etc). Not spend 14 hours a day at the office or be on-call all the time so they can never have a real vacation/never see their kids etc.
  20. Never mind that woman's armor...much as I love capes/cloaks and such, I'd guess that much flapping cloth during a major sword fight on a windy day might be a bit of a ... hindrance? Maybe it's just her ceremonial drape.
  21. The frustrating thing is that the distance isn't even that far - not like I sent them to the bottom edge of the map, not even close. I guess the cold saps them sooner, too. But they get hungry and the AI demands they have to walk all the way to their "own house" to get food. They walk right past markets and barns full of food and ignore it. On the way back, they get cold, so they walk to/stop at a random house for a second for that, then start walking back to own house for food again, and don't make it. It's hilarious when there's a huge line of them, tho, snaking the road/hills back to main town. Almost as fun as slapping imps. Almost.
  22. Heating pad? Ice pad? Tire iron?
  23. I liked Gravity as well. I didn't, however, think it was the best space/action movie ever worth oodles of awards or something. But I enjoyed it as a visual space fantasy and didn't regret taking the trouble to see it on the big screen. It did sorta lose steam in the final third or so, imo.
  24. Come my many peasants, the harvest is over. Just because it's snowing doesn't mean you get to lollygag around! Hm, about 130 of you free, that might be enough. Over here, now. Way over here. Yes, that's it, work harder! Faster! I must expand my kingdom of wooden shacks! What? You're hungry and cold? That's no excuse, where are you all going? You won't make it back, your AI sucks and you'll die anyway, just work till you drop! ...Fine, leave then. Don't want to say I told you so, but ... I told you so. Waste of good work time... And thus my town is made from the bones of cruel and needless death. Maybe I should feel a little remorse, but...nah. I got more work that needs doing. ...while the walker distance AI is stupid/frustrating, it is rather amusing to observe, at times.
  25. For the first 35 years I didn't even let them bury their dead or practice their religion, either. I'm a cruel, heartless taskmaster. No rest for the peasants!
