One day I'm going to buy Alpha Protocol when it's on sale and at least try it for an hour. I have no feelings about the game (eg, it looks good/bad), really ... mostly, I haven't gotten it yet because it just hasn't seemed like the type of gameplay I'd be into. But who knows. One day, one day.

Get off my lawn. That's all I have to say. And it's all every generation has to say, once it becomes the "older generation." It'll happen to you, too.

Just bought Banished (GoG version). My brain said: "I don't need tutorials!" and I started a map. I expect to fail spectacularly many times! Looks great for what it is. Has a pretty decent level of outward zoom, but wish it would zoom in a smidge more than it does. After fiddling with things a bit I had to then exit and put a frame-rate limiter on the game since it was running, for me, a gpu-blisterheat-inducing 250-300fps. Medium sized map is pretty darn large, more than I was expecting at least. At 1920x1080, about 5 monitor-screens down and 3 across when fully zoomed out. The 3rd, biggest size map must be enormous! This is a good thing! Haven't actually played, still wrapping up some chores. But soon, my precious, oh yes, soon! Aww, cute meat-on-legs deer, and baby deer! ... RTS deer always take me back to AoE1 and the peasants "thwacktwacking" out deer steaks...

Well the game has just released on GOG. So you can get it there about 8 hours before its Steam release if you really can't wait I went to bed instead. Probably a good thing, otherwise I'd have been up without sleep.

Always nice to know addons can/will continue to restore back in little UI stuff like that, which I also found annoying (theoretically, since I don't have it yet), based on looking at screenshots. I already use a few addons that put back other little things from the past.

I didn't see it as him complaining so much as him just saying he has a personal preference for combat/tech trees busy work, and others might have their own preferences. And it's something ppl who know little about the game might want to know. But yeah...I won't miss combat at all. I don't want city/town-sim-builder+AoE (or whatever).

Total Biscuit's review of Banished. Sort of a review crossed with a speedy, not optimal start of a let's play to stare at while he's talking about features/gameplay and such. Anyway, I liked it because he's not all super gushy over it, but seems to like it overall. And I laughed at all his "then they die" type comments. Survival city builder sounds awesome to me. Man I can't wait, is it tomorrow yet.

It's just that video (which isn't a serious gameplay video...) made me laugh, and laughter tends to make me want to play something. I don't know why. Like I said, zombie apoc./multiplayer not typically my sort of game to begin with, so I'm not looking at them with any high expectations about me playing them constantly or thinking they're awesome. That might be part of it. I figure they'd just be games I'd fire up, make a chr, play 30-60 minutes until someone saw/killed me, quit, repeat whenever I feel like giggling. Saw another one last night, called 7 Days to Die. Which looked a bit more my speed as a game I'd play more seriously, since you can play it solo (online but creating your own "server", that's closed to others) and it has some Minecrafty aspects to it.

I was a terrible teenage driver, the first year I had my license. After the first 18 months I apparently learned my lesson and I've had a super-clean record in all ways for ages since.

All I know is they better not reboot Die Hard. I'd rather see "Die Hard: Retires Harder part2" with Bruce Willis than a reboot with new actors. At the least, wait until Willis dies first. In fact, I think I'll pop Die Hard into my other pc right now, to play as I'm busy doing some other stuff on this one.

I'm not sure I drive particularly well, but I do like being able to drive and having a car when I do want to drive. eg, I could currently walk/ride a bike to the grocery store, but carrying giant packages and/or 60+ pounds of groceries (or going to the store every single day) isn't my idea of a good time. Nor do I like spending 1.5 hrs to reach my mother when it takes 15 minutes if I drive myself. But driving in busy commuter traffic always sucks. If I had to work a 9-5 in San Fran, I'd definitely take the train/buses, at least in good weather, even if it still felt like a pita/took longer.

I was just coming here to mention that Banished will be available very soon. I remember seeing a developer vid. for it many months ago. 1.5 more days to be able to get it. And I don't have to Steam-purchase it if I don't want! And no awkward combat-mode tacked on, either. That's a nice review vid, haven't seen that one, thanks. Please don't suck, please don't suck, please don't suck ... altho, at least it'll only be about $20. http://www.shiningrocksoftware.com/

Walking Dead - psychotic little girl is going to annoy me to no end, I can tell. Especially when other chrs. are going to not realize and defend her and stuff, I bet. I guess she and her sister are the TV show's answer to the comic's Ben and Billy, perhaps. Which isn't to say they'll follow the comic plot points. Only that they're that type of chr. dynamic. Too many chrs. in this episode, not enough individual focus ala Rick/Carl last time. But it sufficed to show where the rest of the "group" ended up/what their situations are.

Peter Weller will always be Robocop to me. And PG-13 reboots makes me eyeroll. That said, I'll still be interested to see it when it comes to cable. At the least, the general effects will be cooler/better.

I'm not sure whether to put this in funny things thread or in here...so I think I'll put it here. Was looking at more vids. of Rust and DayZ. DayZ is nicer looking, but Rust looks a bit more interesting. But I might enjoy watching the videos more than playing, perhaps (some YouTubers have some funny Let's Plays). Anyway that led me to this vid. making fun of the pk-mentality on some of the busy servers. It actually has me close to buying it. I want a rock! (a bit of language here and there, in the vid, just to say)

If I could still use Netscape Navigator, I would.

This evening, kept trying to watch a movie. Phone rings. Back to movie. Knock at door. Back to movie. Get hungry, make a snack, back to movie. Other than that, it was largely a snuggling with the spouse in a "we're so domestic-happy it makes you want to hurl" kind of day.

Captain Phillips - y'know, at the least, one thing these types of movies do is make me want to Google the event/person that inspired the film. Can't even imagine going through something like that. The movie was ok. The guy playing Muse was pretty good, I wouldn't mind seeing him do something else. Hanks was Hanks, with a little more action. And that was a cool lifeboat. I bet the Titanic would have liked to have some of those.

Thread edited slightly, per request. Hopefully that helps with any earlier misunderstanding/concern. Sometimes it's helpful to reflect that what we text doesn't always convey intent very clearly. Also seems like a good time for a reminder that hate-speech references and the like are not acceptable in these fora, so let's try to steer clear of anything that might lead into that direction.

Typically I would too, only since I hadn't gotten very far at all (seriously) I figured this time I'd try just continuing. I think I'm going to still have to go with complete restart, tho. I think I found the early challenge good enough for me. Could change my mind, but I like playing vanilla first, best. I wouldn't mind a somewhat bigger inventory mod, tho...like I almost always want.

You forgot Hawkeye's sexah arms when he's drawing that bow. And I liked Gravity quite a bit, but I agree that it started off stronger than it ended.

Oh nvm...I don't know why I wrote that rather ambiguous post. It's late, as usual, and I've had too much caffeine. How about just this general inquiry, then ... anyone using FF 27 and what do you think of it?

Ok, found you could change the dosbox config. to make the game run closer to 4:3 (some black barring on the sides), so it looks proper. But that meant the F12 key no longer worked to speed up the game, so I had to use the same file to manually set the core speed. Anyway, in the GoG's DK1 install folder, it's the dosboxDK.conf file. Change the lines: fullresolution=original - replace original with 1920x1080 (or whatever resolution you're using) output=surface - replace surface with opengl cycles=80000 - whatever you like, or "max" I'm good to go now. Perfect!

I have no clue what other women prefer using, but I think I'd like fighting monsters with a magical bullwhip that creates multiple lightning bolts upon contact. Alas that's often not an option. ...but a sword's ok, too.

Just reporting that that worked. Mostly. I had to smoosh the F12 key more than a dozen times, but map scroll speed is now awesome and the rest is somewhat better. Now if only this monitor had an EZ 4:3 switch option, like my older, smaller one does...
