  1. That's ok, I'd be fine with a "permanent" snarky talking cat companion, too. I'm not picky. I sorta like the snake idea...or some kind of fantasy reptile. Reptiles aren't done too often, seems like. Fantasy version (as in a bit larger) of a gila monster, perhaps?
  2. I've been noticing poor FF performance on forum pages with a lot of video embeds, or a lot of javascript etc, again, so I slowly upgraded to newer FF versions. I stopped at 25 - the slowdowns seem better but not perfect. I'm curious - I know the FF "Social API" has been around a while, but I just want to make sure it's still optional in the sense I don't ever have to see/hear this Social API working. Ideally I don't even want the extra buttons. I ask because I noticed that FF removed stuff like the easy Options access for disable images/javascript - which I can live without since I use Noscript/Adblock etc. But it makes me wonder if they're going in that type of direction with a lot of other things. Taking away menu options in the name of idiot-proofing, so I'll have to do tons more via the config. options... One day I'm going to disappear from the net, because I'll get fed up with browser software and just quit.
  3. Yeah, it's using DOSbox. I'll try the cntrl+Fkey thing first, thanks.
  4. When I was a kid, my mother would haul out this metal popcorn popper. Oil in the bottom, kernels, put lid on, loud metallic poppopops while us kids giggled. Occasionally she'd pull out the JiffyPop instead, which was even more fun. Standing around the stove (or better, a fire) and watching it expand. By my 20's, we'd pull out ... the microwave popcorn bag. Microwaves were made for popcorn! And that's what we stuck with for ages. But then recently, I decided to try a pre-bagged popcorn from the grocery store chip aisle. Seems no worse than microwaved popcorn. So there it is. The evolution of my preparing/eating popcorn has come down to this: It's not as fun, but it sure is easy. Now excuse me while I go watch a movie.
  5. I'd still like a gelatinous cube pet ... that's not Ranger-ry enough tho, I suppose. ...I'd still like a cat-influenced companion. Doesn't have to be a huge panther. Could be an ocelot. or Puss N Boots. A talking cat with attitude that would bicker with my Ranger every time it's summoned. Yes, that's what I want. I'm not into birds as pets ... but if I have to have one, could it be something like a vulture, instead of the usual hawk/eagle?
  6. Installed Dungeon Keeper onto Win7. Fired up Deeper Dungeons, picked a level, started it. Did the cntl+r (or whatever that is) to make it look less pixelated. Not quite as good looking as my official DKGold disc version, but it's ok. Then noticed ... it plays slower than molasses. I know for some people, DK1 ran on more modern rigs too fast, but for me it's always been just about right. I like the extra speed. GoG's version on my Win7, for some reason, feels like the run-speed in Diablo1. Everything from minions walking/running around, to slapping, to training/workshop, map scrolling from side to side...all in slo-mo. I can't believe it ever felt that slow even way way back when, must be something weird going on with GoG's tweaks+my particular rig. Oh well. It's still playable. And on the plus side, the level-choosing menu slider doesn't move at light speed.
  7. Technically the first day of winter in the US is ... uh ... something like Dec. 22 IIRC. But most people probably think of Winter as starting around the Thanksgiving holidays (end of Nov.).
  8. Anyone know, if you already have the official DK1 editor files from the disc version, if they'll work on Win7 with GoG's version? (you had to manually "install" the editor by copying files, even back then). I know the editor isn't included with GoG's file, dunno if that's because it doesn't work with GoG's tweaks to make it playable on later O/S...
  9. I bought NWN1, installed it, wandered around a bit and thought "hmm..." But the computer I had at the time apparently choked on the game because it was often a near slide show+mega loading times or something, so I had to give up trying to play. Yet another game that I never went back to.
  10. If Kevin Spacey is in it, I'll watch it at some point. Btw, we do have an ongoing thread for TV/serial series, as well as movies, these days.
  11. Free? Why, yes please. I knew there was a reason I hadn't tried to get it from GoG yet. ** **in reality, I still have my DKGold on disc/installed on an XP machine, but being able to play Deeper Dugeons on Win7 will be nice too
  12. I have not played DA2 so I don't know what the romances feel like when you're actually familiar with the chrs./game etc, but that video above is cringe-worthy when viewed on its own. The voices, the script, the execution. But that's a major problem with trying to cite examples of romance stuff, in any medium. Romance is based on emotional attachment, and thus most of the time, seeing snippets of it out of context, when one has no attachment, is often not enjoyable viewing. To be clear, I very much like characters in games where I feel an emotional attachment to them, whatever the reason - could be romantic (or just "rawr, s/he's hot), could be the bromance, could be just a general respect/grand friendship attachment or even just that the voice-snippets make me laugh, so I remember them. For me, I often become attached to tragic type characters, where romancing them in-game would often make me feel as if it'd actually be a betrayal of the character aspect that made me attached to them in the first place, so perhaps that's why I don't tend to want to see one played out. I actually like unfulfilled relationship arcs as well. There doesn't need to be consummation in order for something to feel a bit romantic/emotional and indeed even in real life, such feelings often go no farther than the initial flirts, for various reasons. And sometimes the wanting is more interesting then the actual having.
  13. I'm the same way, although in a sense it makes me a little sad, because there were a few past games where I "forced" myself to continue and then ended up liking them quite a bit, so I know I'm missing some of those. Still, most of the time, if it didn't capture me in a few hours, 15 more hours didn't help, so I don't force myself to continue anymore.
  14. So I was catching up on some Almost Human episodes (it's starting to get better, I think) and during an ad break they played the teaser for the new upcoming 24. I didn't realize they were making a new 24 and seeing this, especially when the "Live another day" subtitle rolled onscreen made my eyes roll into the back of my head. But who knows...might be...watchable? I did love the first 2-3 seasons of 24 - the format/repeated premise just became more and more unsustainable after that, for me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F136aPh2YUo
  15. I never played M&M9 ... can't remember why. I think the seeming turn away from the original series and then the terrible reviews + probably being wrapped up in some other games at the time. At this point, I can't be bothered. Most rpg's that I didn't initially like, I didn't actually play enough to be able to form a real judgement - they were just ones that for some reason didn't capture my interest enough in a few hours and thus I never returned to them.
  16. It's not so much a trailer as it is the Intro/first 13 minutes gameplay type of thing, I think. Kinda cute, even to a non-SouthPark person like me.
  17. I know it's old, but it still makes me smile, so I'm posting it.
  18. It's Valentine's Day? Cool, that means chocolate will be on sale tomorrow. ...I've been married too long, it doesn't mean much. I remember the candy-grams and candy-hearts in highschool, tho. And of course
  19. I don't consider stuff like Diablo/Titan Quest etc. "rpg's"...to me they're a different genre (arpg's), one that I rather like to boot, and I judge them differently. eg, I don't judge them for roleplaying/plot, just action and loot, haha. So for me, worst rpg that I've personally played, then? Ultima 9. At the time, there was one thing I liked about it - the 3d graphics (oooo, neato!) and the cheat code that let me fly around in the air in a really funny manner. I zoomed around like that, giggling, quite a bit. Outside of that, it was terrible. Altho to be honest, I only got about half way through it I think.
  20. I've been so exhausted this week. Maybe lingering from that flu. Whatever. Just so pooped. My cat has decided that when I'm half-passed out on the couch, it's entertaining to use a paw to knock the glasses off my face. I open my eyes and he's batting them around the floor.
  21. That wasn't my main impression from reading the Steam user-review quotes and some review/articles. But I'll take your word over theirs, since I know you better. Probably just some bad apples, like in any such game. The shooting on sight I also read about, which ultimately isn't surprising in such a game and I'm ok with that, as long as I know that's likely the general thing to expect/be wary of. Also, what are these popular pk locations (or what makes them popular), so I can at least attempt to mostly avoid them if I decide to try the game? eg, store locations, repeatable resource locations, or something? Hopefully if I played at 2am it wouldn't be too bad all the time.
  22. Last time I played Stalker-Pripyat - over 2 years ago. Today: "Dang it, I'm going to play, get off this boat, learn the game more and do some questing!" *wanders around, can't remember what I was doing, why I have so many guns in my inventory, who to talk to, where to go, what the controls are, so lost....* "Think I'll make some dinner instead." ...I'm so pathetic. But I love the way the game looks, the weather, lighting, atmosphere. Dang it, I'm going to play this game yet. After dinner.
  23. First page of previous thread. Last screenshot posted from previous thread:
  24. I don't really understand the serious antipathy against romance, myself. I do get that sometimes it's a matter of resources/time that isn't available, say, but outside of that, again, as long as it's optional I don't see the harm in it being there. Although it does depend a bit on the individual game. Depending on themes/settings/plots I don't feel as if romance always has a place within it, just like I don't feel as if every movie would benefit from having a romantic subplot. Which may be part of the polarizing effect on forum discussions - the impression, misguided or not, that some want romance in every rpg...where others want them to be more rare/selective or at least not included "just because." I like romantic stories or subplots sometimes, but having it be reduced to several lines of dialogue choices options/a side-quest or two doesn't do much for me, personally.
