  1. I'm cynical. I'd like to be able to avoid giving money to a franchise which I feel is so fundamentally undeserving and berift of ideas. And that desire may suffice to prevent me from going to see Episode III in theatres. I didn't see Episode II in theatres. And by the time it came out on DVD, its utter mediocrity was clear enough to me that I had no desire to bother with seeing it. At this point, I just wish the Star Wars franchise would die, completely. It's absorbing far too much sci-fi/fantasy community creative energy for such a generic and unimaginative universe. The amount of creativity that Star Wars fans continually demonstrate in reworking the world and its ideas never ceases to impress me. But the fact that all that creativity is being thrown at such a boring one-trick-pony of a fantasy formula depresses me moreso.
  2. You can only patch games that are Live enabled. Halo is Live Enabled, TSL is NOT Live enabled therefore you can NOT patch TSL on Xbox. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And regardless, MS doesn't allow bug fix patches as such, period. Ever. They allow downloadable content. So even if TSL were a Live game, which it isn't, MS would not allow a bug-fix patch.
  3. Indeed, KotOR 1 was, and always was, and had always been described as supporting Live content. Since prior to release. KotOR 2 is, and always was, and always has been described as not supporting Live functionality. Sheesh. Denial ain't just a river in Egypt.
  4. As far as I understand it (although this is second hand knowledge, as I don't live in the glorious Land of the Free myself), all popular mod chips constitutes copyright circumvention devices (you might use them to do something bad - whether you actually do or not doesn't matter) under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 within the United States and so their installation constitutes a criminal act. The important thing about the DMCA is that it makes implementation of a copyright circumvention device illegal (which mod chips are, even if you're using them for other things). As far as I can tell, this is not the case in the vast majority of the rest of the world.
  5. The bottom line is that if you don't know what console modding constitutes and don't consider the benefits of being able to play around with a modded machine to be worthwhile for hobbyist purposes (some just feel the urge to hack for hacking's sake), you probably don't want to bother considering modding your Xbox or having it modded, especially not for the sake of possibly being able to impliment a fan-mod for one game. Just get the PC version. It'll cost you no more than modding your Xbox, and it doesn't invalidate your warranty.
  6. Indeed, the RPG "feel" of RTW is what I like the most about it. Of course, this isn't new to the Total War series, nor to strategy games in general, but I think RTW takes the phenomenon to its peak. A peak not even the immaculate Alpha Centauri dreamed of. To lead one's general, whose birth and ascent to glory or infamy one has orchestrated, who has a family, and a history, and monuments built to commemorate his battles of times past, to lead him into confrontation, and watch him make a speech to his troops which reflects his personality and qualities and habits as a leader...it's phenomenal. To lead into battle, say, the at this point elderly, dangerously insane, possibly homosexual drunkard adopted Celt son to a Roman Legate and have all of those things matter and have all of those things be linked to causal factors in the world. That's RPG magic. RTW makes actually roleplaying a character and not just being a munchkin all the time rewarding in a way that even most D&D CRPGs don't. That's especially remarkable because it's not an RPG. But there's more to character development in RTW than in most RPGs.
  7. I'm glad to have been directed to the Gibberlings 3. I hadn't encountered the site before. While I was aware of the BG mods present there, I wasn't aware of the IWD Tweak Pack, and I'm currently playing through IWD for the first time. Rather enjoying it, incidentally. I'm quite pleased with the quality of story and writing.
  8. Aww, using one of Atton's death-scene lines for a joke animation?
  9. Give the guy a break. There are far too many Star Wars games at this point to list in a poll anyway. Makes sense he listed the ones he was familiar with, since listing all 40 or 50 of them wouldn't be possible. I mean, Favourite Star Wars game for the Atari 2600/5200 would fill an entire poll itself! My favourite Star Wars game at the time would be Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight. My favourite Star Wars game of all time is likely going to be KotOR 2 for now.
  10. The repetitive quotes I just tend to find aggravating after a while. Can't say I "like" any of them. But as for best quote over all, there's really no competition
  11. Give me the Atton Rand Arm Pillow, complete with accurate Atton character model based torsoe leg and head additions.
  12. If all the English gaming sites have to offer is empty rumours with no basis whatsoever in fact, why should the latest tidbit appearing in German be expected to contain genuine useful information? The linked article is an article which itself not even containing allegations of rumours with a basis in fact, links to another article which, similarly, while containing not even rumours with alleged basis in fact, speculates that maybe, if it is the case that Obsidian is hiring Unreal engine coders, we should take this to mean they're developing KotOR III, despite this being a gigantic leap to virtually baseless judgment, as it is. Yay. At least we could hope for one of these "well, I talked to somebody, who knows somebody, who says..." articles. This is a link to a link to an article that doesn't claim to know anything. Heh.
  13. Actually, yeah, right on. This is the only one that I think carries any validity. None of the poll options seem to
  14. In the present of the game, I think he has the potential best to fit the Sith Lord template, given his character description. Obviously, the game makes all of the above classes credible possibilities, but the Sith Lord is nearest to his tendencies as fate provides them. He has the ability to evoke strong emotion and compel servitude from those around him. He has been exposed to terrible traumas, and the deepest horrors of war in the darkest regions of the universe. He is a wound in the force, whom the Jedi themselves wish to see erased from the face of creation. If he triumphs over this in order to align himself with the light, it is despite absolutely every pre-conceived fact about his character. And while exposure to horrors of war, tragedy and strong emotion as an explanation for redemption might make a good plot device, the Star Wars universe is clearly not one in which these things lead to redemption, whatever the case. The 'grey side' in general, or the light sider who achieves redemption as a consequence of exposure to the dark is the exception to a rather hard and fast rule. He is more a creature of the dark side by nature than the light, that's for certain. And his powers lie in compelling servitude, controlling others in order to obtain obedience against the natural inclinations of those who come to him, thus making him fit rather nicely the Sith Lord character type.
  15. Does the Xbox Doom 3 Collectors Edition use the original Doom engines for the ports? Because I have a hard time seeing myself playing Doom under the original engine, these days, especially on a large screen, with JDoom and ZDoom being readily available. Doom: JDoom:
  16. Dark Side: Visas and Atton then HK47 and Atton Light Side: Visas and Bao-Dur
  17. Yeah, Bandon. Poor guy. I mean, yeah, Malak was a cliche villain, without much substance. But Bandon was the toady who followed the cliche villain without much substance and was easily killed, merely as a prelude to the real thing. It's one thing to follow an evil Master of genuine cunning: a Revan or a Traya. But to be a sycophant to Malak is to be a fool.
  18. Here's how my portrait transition went Don't think I can yet be bothered to picture the model in transition though.
  19. No. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I would just like to echo this sentiment
  20. Umm, ya mean released it, patched it, and got shut down? Whether or not they forgot about it seems kind of beside the point, given they ceased to exist.
  21. See, when I'm playing a role-playing game, I like to identify with a character. If I want to stare at a bum, I can load up a picture of a bum and stare at it. But if I'm trying to identify with the character behind the bum, said character being of the wrong gender can be an impediment to that.
  22. This is an urban legend. No Inuit dialect has notably more words for snow than English has and, quite arguably, all dialects have fewer. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Really? I've never heard that before...I don't know either way, but I've heard a lot of people say they had as many as 50 words for it. Any one here know Inuit? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Indeed. I bothered to take a course on Inuktitut (Inuit is the name of the people rather than the language). The Wikipedia article on Inuktitut remarks on this myth[/url].
  23. I like the way you think
