  1. http://www.slate.com/id/2170388/?GT1=10238 Be a deviant and kill those sheeple! I guess the only good sheeple is a dead sheeple. This has got to be one of the strangest advertising campaigns I've ever seen.
  2. Vienna Sausages ftw.
  3. I know what happened. Too many dropped calls and a huge cell phone bill pushed him to the limit.
  4. Buck Rogers. Seriously, the old gold box Buck Rogers D&D games were my favorite gold box games. I also enjoyed it because it was pure sci-fi. Travelling to different planets dealing with bad guys, mutants and genetic creations.
  5. Apocalypto was actually fairly accurate, the problem was Mel completly mixed up Mayan culture with Aztec culture. The Mayans did sacrifice, but not in that manner, they also died out/disbanded as a society before ever running into any conquistadors. Historically accurate or not, I thought it was an entertaining and impressive movie. I think all of the contraversy is simply over who made the movie.
  6. Its the twilight zone.
  7. There is obviously a difference, and there is also a hell of a big difference between pushing a button to make a 3d character stab another 3d character and actually taking a knife and doing so. The reason I compared the two mediums is because, for me, a movie with violent content is far more difficult to watch than playing a game with the same content which is why I asked if certain movies are banned in the UK.
  8. Is there also a ban in the UK for movies like Se7en, Saw, Hostel, 8mm etc.? If not, why is a game which has much less impact, imho, getting banned? I'm guessing the argument is that by controlling these characters as they commit these violent acts it has a worse impact on the psyche of the viewer/player than simply watching it. I personally disagree as I find myself much more unfomfortable watching live action violence than controlling 3d video game characters. I find myself disapointed with this ban simply on the basis that it will make Jack Thompson happy.
  9. For red hair?!? Besides an ancient fear of red heads being vampires... is there any recent historical context for this?
  10. My parents were 'douchebags' in the sense that they took me to see Star Wars when I was a baby. Supposedly I laughed and loved it though, especially enjoying the scene where Luke flys down the Death Star's canal to eventually blow it up got me laughing out loud. Of course I remember none of this and for all I know I could have been bawling my eyes out.
  11. Moral of the story: Don't reject the advances of your drunken crazy ex-girlfriend. "Tried to swallow and gagged"
  12. I think the adam's apple would spoil the situation with Edwina.
  13. Planescape really was a great game. It was especially impressive considering I first played it around 2004-2005 and it blew me away with story telling. I really wish I had picked it up when it first came out around 1999.
  14. Heh, when I feel the 'tug' I go all out and play every IE in chronological order. Icewind Dale - Heart of Winter - Triales of the Luremaster Icewind Dale II Planescape Torment Baldur's Gate - Tales of the Sword Coast Baldur's Gate II - Throne of Bhaal. It usually takes me about half a year to beat them all. Unfinished Business, G3 Tweaks (for all of the games, makes it more convenient), and a fix pack are usually all I install for BG 2.
  15. Ubisoft did a completly crap job of porting Resident Evil 4. No mouse support, context sensitive buttons during extreme moments that must be pressed quickly do not show the correct button to press and the use of PS2 videos in horribly low quality for cut scenes which a.) increases the size of the installation, b.) doesn't let you see alternate uniforms during these cut scenes. The GameCube version, of which they actually give you the content for (Seperate Ways, Operation Ada etc.) used in-game cutscenes which looked better, didn't break the immersion between cut scenes AND allowed you to see any alternate costumes you unlocked. On the positive as far as a port job goes, it supports wide screen, looks decent enough and is pretty stable with little to no crashing. Why do I still think this is one of the best 20 bucks I've spent on a game? Having never played the console versions, only seeing a few videos back in 2004, this is one of the best, most exciting survival games I've ever played. The story kept me interested, the enemies were exciting to fight, theres always some new beast to fight with its own attacks and tactics, it has an interesting upgrade and trading system, it is a long game at about 15-20 hours to beat with further unlockables adding another 10+ hours to gameplay. About the only things it is lacking as a game, besides the above porting issues, would be a coop mode letting you play through single player with Leon and Ada, or Mercenaries mode letting each player select one of 5 different characters. For me RE4 is a real kick in the pants for the RE series, taking it to a whole new level. I know a lot of fans were disapointed that there are no zombies or Umbrella corporation, but I find the new parasitic creatures and story to be more interesting. I wish the RE movie had been based on the fourth game.
  16. With Resident Evil 4 out on PC and not disapointing as a game, there are only two games I'm really looking forward to right now. Enemy Territory: Quake Wars & Mask of the Betrayer expansion for NWN 2.
  17. Even if thats the case, from what I've read there were a few tricks pulled and its not a real representation of what the game will look like, but what it 'could' look like. That and it is boring as hell. Yeah, it is a teaser, but the first two Fallouts, and Tactics, had better teasers.
  18. BS or not, I just can't stop smiling and chuckling visualizing this event. Driving down the highway, glancing over at some guy strapped to the front of a semi... not to mention all the awkward phone calls the police station must have recieved. It just cracks me up thinking of how many people must have rubbed their eyes and said 'what the...?'
  19. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19088976?GT1=10056 Yeehaa!
  20. Well, I wasn't impressed by the teaser and its lack of any actual gameplay. Just designed to try and say, "Hey! Look we are making cutscenes that use 50s music and have the same tone and feel of previous Fallouts! We wont mess F3 up honest!" Not that I feel Bethesda is going to ruin the Fallout universe, that already happened with the console FO Brotherhood game. Seriously, they would have to try pretty hard to make Fallout 3 a worse experience. Even if Fallout 3 does manage to stink to high heaven, I'm hoping it will offer the same modding capability that Oblivion offers so fans will be able to correct issues, possibly even remake the first Fallouts. Either way I'm not going to get excited about some cgi cutscene, especially not one that actually looks worse (in style) than the original games' openning cutscenes.
  21. Let me get this straight. Someone, in the audience, cheers during the graduation of these 5 students, and the students will not recieve thier diploma unless the person in the audience (or is it the actual graduating students themselves?) apologize... There has got to be more to the story, otherwise this really is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Anyone else ever read 'The Whipping Boy'? They don't even know WHO cheered, family, friend, or it is even possible parents and students were briefed on the no cheering rule and some vindictive person cheered on purpose to stir trouble. Thats the problem with these tories though, they just don't give the full story. Also, it is very strange to call racism when we have no idea who the other four students were. Unless I missed a description the other four students could be a white boy, a hispanic girl, an oriental boy and an alien girl from venus.
  22. What was really surprising was that Paul did a Resident Evil movie with an R rating. He didn't want to lower the violence for... a video game... but he lowers the rating to PG-13 for a movie that combines two of bloodiest sci-fi horror movies ever. Huh? Even worse, almost every AvP comic/video game has taken place in the Aliens timeline with colonial marines. Placing it in contemporary times with civilians just wasn't as interesting. As bad as it was though, I don't think it was worse than Alien 3, but I do think Alien Resurrection was slightly, slightly better. Should have got Monolith to do the story for the movie. AvP 2 had a more interesting and exciting story than Alien 3 to AvP.
  23. Icewind Dale series had the best music of the IE games IMHO, with Planescape Torment coming in a very close second. Planescape had the best ending music, perfectly fit the bittersweet ending areas. Even though I never played the actual game, besides the demo, Jeremy Soule's Total Annihilation soundtrack is awesome. I like most of Soule's tracks, though I think it is ironic that I consider his Oblivion soundtrack his worst yet it recieved so many awards. MDK 2 had some rockin' tracks. Mechwarrior 2 had atleast one awesome track. The Unreal series usually has some good action music. SiN Emergance had a great openning theme song and, IMHO an even better credits track. Undying had an amazing and creepy main menu track. The Thief series has some of the moodiest music I've heard. While I don't know if I would enjoy just listening to it on my desktop, it has really improved the mood of Oblivion by adding Thief songs as dungeon tracks. Jesper Kyd's tracks for the Hitman series, usually the main menu titles. The games usually have one or two very memorable tracks like Slaughter Club from Contracts or the Streets of Hong Kong theme. The Michael Giacchino Medal of Honor tracks are usually extremly well done. They are almost too good for the games as they have somewhat tragic undertones, yet the games usually are all about action. The music for the Battletoads arcade game was memorable. The old Sega Streets of Rage series had some great music for the time. The Crusader (No Regrets, No Remorse) games had some great music. The Donkey Kong series had some great tracks, especially if you can find some fan made remixes. I'm especially fond of the music that played during the underwater sections. Some of the old Need for Speed music made for the game was great. The original Descent had some fricken' awesome music. Especially the debriefing music between missions.
  24. I love the Doom 3 engine, especially the recent Prey and upcoming Quake Wars. Doom 3 is what motivated me to update my computer.
  25. The healing system of requiring medical kits isn't just more realistic, but it increases the tension and danger of battle. If you get shot with a rifle and lose 60% of your health, you are in serious trouble and hiding under a table isn't going to help you. You are going to have to push on with the battle in your weakened state needing medical attention, and that is what the ktis represent. Bandages, morphine, splints etc. Yes, that may be unrealistic for healing supplies to make that next bullet less likely to kill you but it is far, far more realistic than 'taking a breather'. CoD 2 is not only more unrealistic, but it destroys the tension. Again, when you are shot in 1, you are in trouble, in 2 all you have to do is duck... and voila, one or two seconds later you are back up to tip top shape. It also means Quake style rush the enemy tactics actually work fine. So what if you take a few shots in your mad dash at the enemy, just hide behind that wall. The lame healing system in 2 actually altered my play style. In 1, I took it slow and steady, staying with my squad, aiming around corners, making use of the prone position. In 2 I find myself doing these things far less becasue quake style run and gun works in 2. I enjoy shooting **** as you said, but in a WWII shooter I prefer a bit of realism, intensity and a fear. Regenerating health kills that immersion. In the Halo series it works fantastically because it is a sci fi action shooter. It makes SENSE in Halo. What I wouldn't have minded seeing is having your health regenerate to about 25% full health if you are wounded below that, but to heal beyond would require either medics or medical supplies. It boils down to there being actual CONSEQUENCES to being shot in 1 while in 2, there are none whatsoever.
