I hope Mask contains an event like the trial from NwN 2. I loved all the different interactions with the witnesses, from the dead serious Alaine to the hilarious gnome merchant you can threaten.

I'm disapointed, but in no way surprised, that the optimizations aren't quite enough. I'm very excited about the soul eating aspect of the game, it sounds very interesting. Have they streamlined the inventory at all? I for one hated the small boxes and vague item squares. Sorting, selling and passing between the party was an absolute nightmare... clunkier than the old infinity engine games. I even think some of the old SSI games had more convenient inventories. Obsidian seems to have had atleast one major flaw in their two games so far, KoTOR 2's incomplete ending and NwN 2's clunky engine and poor user interface, but one thing I've seen in both games is excellent stories, writing, and characters.

I'd agree with Cameron, but Alien 3 and Resurrection already screwed up the franchise. I don't see how you could possibly go lower than Alien 3, and IMHO AvP didn't go lower than Alien 3 as it atleast had some mildly entertaining scenes and locations. Seriously, Alien 3 and Resurrection took the franchise down to the slums, AvP is just wallowing in the lowered bar. While I doubt Requiem will come anywhere near Alien, Aliens or the original Predator, I have a feeling based on the trailer that it wont be the same level of garbage that Alien 3, Resurrection or AvP were. It might, if nothing else, be a decent summer action/horror movie... somewhere around the Pred 2 level.

Predator 2 had its moments, but again I found myself rooting for the creature. Most of the movie the pred spends slaughering drug dealers and gang members... it was almost like an alien version of Robocop. That wasn't actually a bad thing though in some ways. It was also pretty cool to see the new pred gadgets like the Disc. Predator 2, for me, had somewhat less likable characters and they also lost a lot of the tension moving the action from the jungle to the city. There was a real isolation to the first movie, and a tension of not knowing what was in the forest stalking these men. I still remember the build up to the creature as being one of the scariest and tense moments I had ever seen and it amazes me I can rewatch Pred 1, knowing what is coming but still feeling tense. Pred 2, almost all of the entertainment value of the movie comes from seeing the pred kick ass and the final chase/battle between Glover and the Pred. For me Pred 2 is a midway point in the Alien/Predator movies. No where near as amazing or ground breaking as Alien, Aliens or Predator, but no where near as bad as Alien 3, Alien Resurrection or AvP.

Hah, me too! Jar-Jar Binks.

I really need to see City of Lost Children. I love strange imaginative movies like Terry Gilliam fare. 12 Monkeys and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen are two of my all time favorite movies. I still enjoy good sci-fi action horror films though. Pulling off good slow build isolation sci-fi horror seems much harder than pulling off good sci-fi action/action horror. When slower paced sci-fi horror works, though, it is VERY good (Alien, The Thing). The problem is, if it is bad/has unlikable characters it really is trash with no redeeming qualities.

As bad as Resurrection was, I'd have to say my all time least favorite of all the Alien or Pred movies was Alien 3. There was just absolutly nothing to care about. I knew things weren't looking good when some of my favorite characters from Aliens are killed a minute in to the movie on a computer screen. All we have left is Ripley with a bunch of A-hole prison inmates. With only a SINGLE likable character in the movie, almost all of the horror is removed. I was frankly rooting for the alien. Then, at the end of the movie, the only character I cared about is offed. The only thing that Alien 3 got right was the atmosphere and I thought the alien was kind of cool. I may be in the minority on that point of view though, as I've heard many thought the alien looked like lame CGI crap. I even hold AvP 1 above Alien 3.

One of the things I've heard and like about this upcoming movie is there will only be one predator, and much of the movie is survival horror. People trapped in a small town trying to stay alive, though I'm betting things start hitting the fan in the later sections of the movie with military involvement and larger scale pred-alien battles. Judging from the trailer alone, this movie could be much better than Alien 3, Resurrection, Predator 2 and, of course, the first AvP movie. I don't really hold any of the alien sequels, except Aliens in very high regard and the Predator sequel was so-so. AvP could have atleast been a decent action movie, but they had to go and lower it to PG-13 for the kiddies which really ruined the experience. Really, who was expecting AvP 1 to be intelligent? Remove the gore/violent action and you really have nothing but a few cheap scares. I'm really hoping AvP 2 Requiem has some decent character interaction but if it doesn't, atleast it looks like AvP 2 can fall back on the action.

I think they work together extremly well in comic and video game formats... and I'm thinking this next AvP movie just might make them work well together on the big screen. I'd still love to see some 'pure' Alien or Predator sequels.

I also made a post about this yesterday in the Alien RPG forum, though this was probably the more appropriate forum for it. http://forums.obsidianent.com/index.php?showtopic=47839 Also, there is a link to a much higher quality version of the trailer.

Dub of the recent Dawn of the Dead movie. Rather annoying squeaky Alvin & the Chipmunks voices, and the volume is loud, but absolutly hilarious timing and jokes. Really feels like a classic MST3000 episode. "Slow 90 degree rotation!" Warning: "R" rated movie dub with some cursing and adult material... it IS a zombie movie, but now its a funny zombie movie.

Things must be getting better in Iraq if the new form of terrorism is drive-by bullet throwings.

While I haven't been following SC II, I would not be surprised if TrueNeutral is right. I remember Blizzard was planning on introducing a brand new Terran Earth faction to the Brood War expansion, but whiny idiot fan boys didn't like the idea so they stuck with standard Terran units. A brand new Terran force made absolute perfect sense, considering the Terrans in the first StarCraft were colonists seperated from Earth for hundreds of years and would have developed their own seperate technology.

I've been re-watching 24 from season 1 for a while in anticipation of the eventual release of season 6 on dvd. 24 is one of the only shows that I can watch multiple times and still enjoy. I'm currently mid-way through season 3. One thing that really bugged me was the jarring transition between season 2 and 3. Season 2 ends with such a surprising cliffhanger ending then just picks up on a completly different storyline that in no way closses events of season 2. I did hear that the 24 video game closes the gap, but I had absolutly no intention of buying a PS2, luckily youtube contains the entire group of cinematics from the game so it was kind of like watching a mini-season of 24. It was nice to finally see what happened to Max and a few other loose ends were tied up, though they don't do a good job of explaining how Palmer survived with his poisoned... palm.

The Thing is one of the better survival horror games I've ever played. I'd rank it 2nd only after Resident Evil 4. I loved the squad, morale and trust mechanics in the game. Give buddies a big gun and they would trust you more. Take their gun away and they would curse at you. Take the squad into a disgusting room with blood, guts n' bodies and they would freak out, vomiting and possibly really losing it, firing all over the room. My biggest complaint about The Thing is the complete uselessness of the test kit. You are able to walk up to squad mates, draw some blood and see if they were infected. Unfortunatly, it almost never worked. I've recieved clean tests from squad mates, literally seconds before they become the thing and attack.

Do you believe the media serve the public interest?

Depends on the situation. One 'news' program I can't stand is the Nancy Grace show. She sensationalizes everything, and nine times out of ten her show is about baby abuse. 'Baby in the microwave! Baby in a plastic bag behind a house! Baby on the freeway!' Watch her show for a week and you will come to think every parent on the planet is unfit and babies are dropping like flies left and right. Not only that but she can be a raging b!tch with her guests. Interrupts constantly with the 'Woah woah woah! Back the blah truck up a moment! We're talking about babies in microwaves and you bring THIS statistic up?' Then during any discussion where things aren't going her way, or just for the hell of it, she'll roll pictures of victims of whatever nastiness she is discussing that day. "Take a look at the screen behind me and all these faces." She has an interesting background, and had a former husband (or fiance) who was murdered, and she might actually be a decent person face to face, but god I can't stand her show. Hah, Paris Hilton coverage. If you added up all the hours of coverage on a single event, and weighed that events 'importance' with the number of hours devoted to it Paris Hilton would probably be THE MOST IMPORTANT EVENT IN HISTORY EVAR! -
"Sir, do you realize you have a monkey in your lap?" "Its not MY monkey!" I hope it didn't make a mess on his head while he was hiding it.

Sweet muppetty doodah! That woman's totally ape****! The sad thing is the kid may well grow up emotionally and morally retarded toward women like she fears, not because of some porno he looked up, but because his mother's rants turned him wierd. Also... "When he wants to jerk off, everything goes right out the window." I hope nobody walks by when that's happening. Laughing so hard my eyes have gone wet! The awful thing is the kid probably will grow up with major issues.

Examples of Great Writing in CRPGs

That would be awesome. Oh, for those who have never played Anachronox and have no intention of trying it... but still might have some interest... here is Anachronox the movie. (Basically they took all of the cutscenes of Anachronox and spliced them together to make a machinima) http://www.machinima.com/films.php?id=231 It is not complete, they did cut out a few good scenes... like the sock eating prophet. -
300. Amazing fight scenes. I do wish Hollywood would make an effort to stay true to the event. The real battle of Thermopylae was even more insane and gruesome than any fantasy/mythology version could ever portray.

Extraterrestrial life somewhere in the universe?: Absolutly INTELLIGENT extraterrestrial life?: Maybe. Intelligent extraterrestrial life currently visiting us in flying saucers and probing our anuses: Makes for good TV/Video Games.

'Voice acting' like ToEE might be acceptable in a PNP group sitting around a table, but it shouldn't be acceptable in a video game rendition with supposed production quality. As bad as the voice acting was, I DID enjoy the music. I thought the Hommlet tune was particularly soothing. -
I was really disapointed with Resurrection of Evil, mainly because I bought it when it came out for 40 bucks and it just didn't have enough new content to be a 40 dollar expansion. I love Doom 3 though, it just wasn't the insano amazing expansion that other games have recieved for a lower price tag. The double barrel shotgun added in RoE friggin' rocks. "This is my BOOMSTICK!"

Maybe it is their weak spot... shoot it for 2x damage.

Fallout Tactics. I had difficulty in the past starting a game because it isn't the RPG Fallout 3 everyone wanted. That and it starts out very slow with raider fighting. I'm glad I've finally stuck with it though as the missions are becoming more interested and varied. I really enjoy the updated combat in Fallout Tactics and I wish they could have implemented the crouching/crawling and other tactical features of Tactics with the first two Fallouts.
