RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS THREAD!, just a dumping ground
GreasyDogMeat replied to CoM_Solaufein's topic in Computer and Console
I wont believe it till I see it. Duke Forever is cursed. Gearbox will run into sudden financial problems or they'll misplace their only build of the game and have to start from scratch with a new engine. -

Has anyone actually managed to beat Lionheart? The same thing happened to me. I loved the Barcelona section but just got sick of the game once you leave. -

My ears! Make it stop! -
I loved it too. I think they could make a spin-off series in the alternate universe.

Mindless Entertainment + High Quality = ???

Couldn't disagree more. I thought the combat in GTA IV was fantastic and screwing around, runnning from the cops was so much more intense. I really hadn't felt that rush since GTA 3. The driving physics definitely took a while to get used to, but it didn't kill it at all for me and I grew to like it. I do admit that I was getting seriously PO'd during early missions when I was trying to adjust to the new driving mechanic. I'd keep sliding and crashing into buildings etc. I'm just blown away by the physics. Driving head on into another car and flying out the window or the simple joy of IMHO, GTA IV deserved it's perfect scores. As for optimization, I played on 360 so no frame rate issues (Though I'm sure it doesn't look as good as a high end PC, it looks good enough for me). -
Alpha Protocol Walkthrough and More

Awesome! This could be handy for mopping up some of the achievements. -
So she isn't cruel, just stupid. I seriously doubt it was a 'joke'. She looks around suspiciously for some time before dumping the cat in and quickly walking off. BTW, can you link the story where she says this? This is hardly some big story. People do nasty/stupid stuff like this all the time. The only reason I think this is remotely newsworthy is just how callous it looks. Really, why go out of your way to do that even if you don't like cats?

These don't just defy physics though. They could open a wormhole to a parallel universe.

I'd say go right to GTA IV but yes San Andreas was amazing. I'm not really crazy about the whole 'gangsta' thing either and I hated the idiotic main character who never shuts up while exploring, BUT, the game gets much better after you leave the LA area and the 'gangsta' war story section. The farmland, San Francisco and desert/Las Vegas missions/story are really good. I think a good example of why I like GTA IV more is that in San Andreas I had burnout roughly 75% of the way through the main story and just stopped playing, only to come back months later to finish it off while in GTA IV & Expansions I burned through the missions ASAP to see what would happen next. -
I don't know how he keeps his attention focused on the zombies. You seee them every day. How often do you see breasts that defy physics?

'Hello kitty! My aren't you cute! In the trash you go!' Wow, what was that ladies' major malfunction? Maybe too many strays in the neighborhood and she just snapped.

but that's not the point. it's like F3 or Oblivion didn't have any. Bethesda is just as notorious as obsidian when it comes to bugs. Bioware seem to be paying more attention to polishing their games. which still doesn't give Stuart Young the right to claim Obsidian games are just this one big disaster. he's obviously biased and frankly the whole article is just bs. it had been pointed out before, when the game was announced. why bring it all up now? I agree with the above: he's an attention-whore He didn't claim that Obsidian games are just one big disaster. He did sort of make that claim for Alpha Protocol and based on the reviews and (not totally sure about this part) sales of the game he is pretty much right. Hey, don't get me wrong, I really enjoy AP (I'm having a blast replaying it right now), but its more of a cult game and not the AAA release that people were expecting/hoping for. Also, while Bethesda might be as notorious for bugs as Obsidian, their games for better (Fallout 3) or worse (Oblivion) are adored by the press and gaming majority while bugs are amplified in games from Obs because they aren't as well received by either the gaming press or players. Could the article have been written better? Sure, but I don't think it was written by some jerk trying to get attention as I worry about the game myself for similar reasons. Do I worry that New Vegas will have a worse story or dialogue than F3? Absolutely not. For me, this is going to be enough, but I do worry about bugs and another incomplete story. Every Obs game so far (with the exception of the NwN 2 expansion packs) could have turned out much better with more polish/more dev time. The article seems to be trying to get at that.

I didn't take it so much as dismissing the game as worrying about the finished product. The writer hardly ignored everything good about OEI. Calling a game a 'rough hewn gem' is hardly massive criticism and I would actually agree with that description of Obsidian games. Rough hewn gems. As for ignoring the flaws of F3, it would hardly be the first article that did that. As much as I love Fallout 3, I do find it amazing how the critics don't point out the most glaring of flaws with F3 and Bethesda's games in general. Its like they've bribed every game critic in the world or they enter this alternate dimension where gameplay mechanics/story elements that would be unacceptable in any other game are not an issue in a Bethesda game. Oblivion and Fallout 3 are both considered god's gift to gaming in pretty much every major gaming review mag/site. While I just don't get it with Oblivion (the flash and beauty wore of quick to dull quests and an uninteresting world) I actually felt it with Fallout 3.

Long live Alpha Protocol.
GreasyDogMeat replied to Libertarian's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
My biggest complaints with the game would be the story is way too cookie cutter (evil corp trying to start up a new cold war for profits) and the AI. I played an early mission where I was sneaking up to a guy to knock him out. He heard me at the last moment, turned around. Before he could shout or shoot I started beating on him and knocked him out. Somehow this brief fight with no gunfire involved was heard by multiple enemies who came rushing in and gunned me down (playing on hard). Next try, I was spotted sooner and the enemy actually opened fire on me before I closed the distance. Yet this time it was counted as a stealth knock out with no enemy backup showing up despite them being just outside the door. Oddities like this happen a bit too frequently but don't kill the game. That said, I'm replaying the game and I have to say this is a game that gets better with multiple playthroughs. Its fun discovering more of the story I missed the first time and trying a complete opposite style of play to the last (I'm trying to charm EVERYONE as well as going for a stealth/no kill playthrough opposed to my insult everyone and kill everything playthrough). Its wonderful to see how situations change based on choice. First playthrough I didn't really care if a sequel was made or not, but this time I'm really starting to hope for one. P.S. Make some DLC missions dammit!
