  1. It isn't flying that I'm afraid of... its the take off and landing where I'm white knuckling it. A number of ideas from this site have already been suggested, but maybe they'll help.
  2. This works both ways. Perhaps everyone who is tried for a murder should be kept in prison even if found innocent. There might have been some corruption involved with the defense. Grasping as much as you. That an innocent MIGHT be executed is reason enough to abolish the death penalty, the fact murderes can and do commit more murders and may even escape in a prison break is as much of an excuse to execute them. An interesting article. "A recent study at the University of Colorado, for instance, finds "a statistically significant relationship between executions, pardons, and homicide. Specifically, each additional execution reduces homicides by five to six." A paper by three Emory University economists concludes: "Our results suggest that capital punishment has a strong deterrent effect... In particular, each execution results, on average, in 18 fewer murders -- with a margin of error of plus or minus 10." Comparable results have been reached by scholars at the University of Houston, SUNY Buffalo, Clemson, and the Federal Communications Commission. All these studies have been published within the past three years. And all of them underscore an inescapable bottom line: The execution of murderers protects innocent life." The death penalty is a warning, just like a lighthouse throwing its beams out to sea. We hear about shipwrecks, but we do not hear about the ships the lighthouse guides safely on their way. We do not have proof of the number of ships it saves, but we do not tear the lighthouse down. - poet Hyman Barshay
  3. Unless you feel that the justice system will ever become flawless (I'm not holding my breath), then supporting the death sentence means you're okay with the occasional innocent person being executed. And being against the death penalty means you are ok with any further murders against prison guards and other inmates. The death penalty isn't just handed out to every murder... it requires 'aggravating circumstances'. Saying 'then supporting the death sentence means you're okay with the occasional innocent person being executed.' is like saying you are ok with alcohol consumption even though 40,000 people a year are killed by drunk drivers.
  4. Death sentence doesn't need to go, it is the justice system that needs to be improved.
  5. One of my other favorite devs, id Software was aquired by Zanimax/Beth earlier. I can't decide yet whether its a good thing or a bad thing. One thing I consider bad about it is that id will no longer be licensing their engines to other devs and all upcoming idtech 5 games will from devs working under Zanimax. How this would affect Obsidian for better or worse...
  6. The XBLA Tomb Raider game Lara Croft & The Guardian of Light was actually really good.
  7. Yes, a slap on the wrist does a much better job of detering spies and traitors.
  8. While I wouldn't use those specific words to describe it, that is exactly what I want from Call of Duty. After I go through some fantasy adventure or Fallout game and get my dialogue rpg fix I want to outright shoot people in an epic orgy of testosterone fueled violence.
  9. Fallout 3's morphine was renamed to med-x and changed for all localizations because of that. Not that big of a deal though as Fallout has numerous alternate world drugs and food items.
  10. I'm hoping whoever leaked these files to wikileaks is executed as a traitor. Maybe Agent 47 could 'disappear' Assange as well if the little weasel could be found.
  11. I am serious, and don't call me Shirley. Seriously bummed, but he did make it to 84. I'll be happy if I make it to my 70s! RiP.
  12. So... does this mean we will finally get our laser guns?
  13. I know this is Yahtzee we're talking about here, but really. He... couldn't follow the story and then complains that the series is for people who have no attention span. The story was easy to follow and it was great. Not one of the funnier reviews either.
  14. If you live in the states and don't have Fallout: New Vegas first, what is wrong with you!? Second, GameStop is having a black friday sale of the game for 40 bucks... go get it! Halo Reach is also on sale for the same price... think I might pick it up.
  15. Of course. Tax payer's money would likely be put to better use compared to either.
  16. I've been watching Dexter and I'm surprised how much I'm liking it so far. Unlike The Sopranos I actually like most of the main characters in the show. I think my biggest annoyance so far has been Dexer speaking to his dead father in the present. I don't so much mind the flashbacks to life lessons/etc but the whole 'person talking to a dead person to represent the character thinking' is getting a bit old. I also finally saw The Expendables. Lots of stuff blew up and it was cool. There was also a story or something but I wasn't paying attention...
  17. Even an Uwe Boll film!? I don't think she would be worth it...
  18. Heck no! We want change!
  19. Never say never! We elected the first black president of our
  20. I... er... what? Based on story alone Black Ops destroys MW2 which had one one of the dumbest stories I've ever seen in a video game that was trying to take itself seriously. The stand-out moments were better in Black Ops IMHO, but the low point was the lowest in the CoD franchise for me. Luckily it was a short section.
  21. Are you telling me it doesn't have Zork? As the video review shows, it does indeed have Zork and a cool looking top down arcade shooter hidden in the game! Kind of funny, but I've never played Zork before and my first experience with it will be on a Call of Duty game.
  22. Gametrailers review of Black Ops. I had no idea what Tale was talking about mentioning Zork. There is even a hidden top down arcade game that I'm going to have to find and it looks awesome! The review is a bit idiotic at points. Story hard to follow because it flips between soldiers? The game has 2 major characters and 2 minor characters! Everything is spelled out in the end and it was done quite well. They don't even mention the horrible respawning point during the Khe Sahn mission. I replayed the game today and I played much better except in the Khe Sahn respawn battle. It still took me about 10 tries to beat it on normal.
  23. But is it longer than 5 hours? Yes! It is 6 hours! (Seriously, it took me six and a half hours to beat on normal yesterday!) Yeah... CoD is still a short game... so if your only interest is in the single player you might want to either just rent it for a great weekend or wait till the price comes down. The MP has a few new features, one of which that I really like is the ability to play against bots. It is seperate from playing with people, so you can't level up and then go play against people. Its great for folks like me who are mediocre/suck at CoD multiplayer and just want to explore the maps and get used to things.
  24. They are... played a ton of Black Ops today and it was amazing. First Call of Duty game where I couldn't wait to see what happened next with the story, let alone the next set-piece action sequence. It almost feels like a cross between Lost and Call of Duty. You start off with the main character strapped to a chair being interrogated about a number sequence that keeps running through his head and every mission unravels a bit more about what has lead up to him being interrogated. Some highlights from the campaign (Might not want to read. Minor spoilers at best but better to experience for yourself): -Escaping from a Russian gulag. -Flashback to WWII. -A short RTS section controlled from a Blackbird that cuts back and forth between a ground soldier and the Blackbird. -Swimming under a river, surfacing to drag NVA off boats. -The vehicle sections including a PTA Boat down Vietnam & piloting an attack chopper. -Going through a building with a shotgun loaded with shotgun shells.-The brutality. Treyarch's Black Ops makes IW's worst moments from Modern Warfare 1 & 2 look like Saturday morning cartoons. Kind of hard to watch some of the knife kills. The only real stand out negative was during a Vietnam mission. You are trying to drive back a NVA assault and a map marker appears on your HUD. Problem is the enemy has infinite spawns. They keep spawning from the exact same location and they IMMEDIATELY respawn once you kill one. The only way to stop the waves of soldiers is to run to the map marker. This is actually common in Call of Duty games, but this is the single most obvious and obnoxious use of this gameplay mechanic in the series history (and I've played every CoD game that has graced the PC & Xbox - Xbox 360). This was the only time during the campaign that my grin faded and I started cursing at the screen. Luckily this is a short section, but it took me 10 tries to finally overcome it. The respawning was that bad. This was really a breath of fresh air for the series and I think it is in good hands.
