aye Jamie, That is annoying in Civ 3. However, I did have some success at the 5th hardest difficult rating setting with diplomacy. Was a really hard game tho (I literally barely squeaked out a victory and never been able to since). I definately know what yas mean tho. Ive yet to find a stratagy game were diplomacy works 100% the way it should. I tend to think its more a option when doing multiplayer games to be honest.

heh np Carrie. I encountered all of two bugs in 8 different play throughs so Im more then happy with my XBox version

whats the most important part of making a game
Kalfear replied to anakins revenge's topic in Developers' Corner
Well I cant Program anything what so ever. Having played computer games since they hit the market tho I think I can give you some insite to the genres I like. -I think the most important thing first off is the storyline for the game. The reason behind it so to speak. With the exception of simulators and some FPSs, people are drawn to the storyline. Thats what draws them in to look at the rest of the game. It could be just a few well worded sentances or pages upon pages of information, the reason behind the game is what catchs people attention first and formost. - After that it really depends on what type of game your making. If its a RPG, you need a SOLID and indepth storyline that runs through out the entire game. A stratagy game, you need a setting that will call for stratagy and thought (not just "he who has the biggest guns wins"). Seriously I dont think you can really say any one aspect beyond storyline is most important. Different genres call for different priorities. For example, Im a die hard MMORPG player. Been playing them for 14+ years now. I can sit down and design a MMORPG (the basics, not including actual conversations, quests, names, ect) in a matter of 8 hours. From this (IMO) any gameing company could infact design a MMORPG that would challenge the top games on the market if followed. But for that basic design there is no one area thats more important then the other. When talking MMORPGs most areas run into other areas and intertwine so to speak. I guess the most important part of game design is having a true long time player who cares about the specific topic to guide/help you. Going back to MMORPGs, being a long time player and fan of the genre I can disect a MMORPG and show you why this game or that game was designed by non-fans and thus is failing. Having passion for the topic at hand is probably more important then any amount of code you can or cant write. But really, isnt that true for every aspect of live. A chef thats passionate about the food he makes will be better then a chef looking to get outta the bussiness 99 time out of 100. The example can beused in just about everything from games to politics to what ever. So having a passion towards the topic would be my answer to your question. -
LOL, aye! MOO 3 was a terrible let down. Sadly I cant really play MOO2 anymore tho as its really limited (for me) on replay value to be honest. heh, before KotOR1 I actually prefered my RPGs to be Fantasy based rather then Sci Fi (just because Sci Fi stuff had always been done so poorly for RPGs). But I think thats just because Star Wars realy does transfer well to RPGs (even tho Lucas (before KotOR) and Sony (SWG) have failed miserably in the past doing RPGs in SW universe). Always liked my Sci Fi stuff to be turn based stratagy games. If yas interested in that style check out any of the Civ games.

Me thinks they protest to much.
Kalfear replied to LordRaven's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Official news regarding Lay Offs? Sure, it was posted on the LA website awhile ago regarding the lay offs. (lay offs not really current news even though the fan sites rehashing it as it was). Is that official enough? Just go there and read through the old announcements until you find it. -
Honestly I dont think they have ever made a 100% statement about the topic. The closest I ever heard is this game was created for XBox systems. PC version is just a bonus after the fact. That always makes sence to me, it was contracted for the XBox so was made for the XBox, after that release is when they started to work on the PC version. As for the really late Euro release for XBox, Im totally baffled as to why they did that.

My favorite is listed in the other thread about same topic so check there for your answer As to the difference in opion your seeing here about who is the best/most interesting. The fact that not everyone is saying the same 1 or 2 characters is one of the strenghts of KotOR2. All of them had real storylines and back stories that interested people. In KotOR1 it really came down to Bastila, Carth, and HK 47. In KotOR2 everyone but GoTo and Hanharr seemed to appeal to people! Thats definately a success for Obsidian in terms of spreading the interest around

Unable to choose "close combat" after prestige.
Kalfear replied to Darth Gizka's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I thought that feat was only handy for ranged fighters, not lightsaber/force wielders. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Aye, Close combat is only for Ranged Attacks, not usable for mellee combat what so ever. -
LOL, thats "kinda " the position im in Jebus Im a OLD OLD OLD school RPG player (dating way way back to the initial release of computers). Back then, as graphics were stick men (and later EGA), Computer RPGs were forced to have storylines that were intensive as they couldnt WOW the players with top of the line graphics and such. So for the last decade or so I been really disappointed in cRPGs as they relied way to much on graphics engines/multiplayer ability and such rather then indepth, well written storylines. The KotOR franchise really is a step backwards into those style of games where the content is more important then the bells and whistles. Prior to KotOR1 the best RPGs I had played would be the old SSI Gold Box games (or Wizardry, Might and Magic). Players today probably couldnt even finish one of those games as they were EGA graphics and no where even close to todays minimum standard for graphics and such but their storylines were awsome and well written. heh, took 10+ years but finally there is 2 games that live up to the standards of days gone by now Totally agree with yas about Halo. It also kinda proves my point as well about todays gamers. I played the first 3 sections of Halo before stopping from shear bordom. In Halo, the storyline does NOTHING for the game, its totally and completely optional as you literally have to go from point A to Point B to point C. You dont have to make and choices. Heck you dont even have to read the storyline as you can NOT swerve away from the path set out for you. Storyline is just there as a back drop for you, nothing else. As I said, I did the first 3 stages (just because Halo came with XBox when I purchased it and was bored with no games to play) and was just bored. Other then the sniper rifle (which I loved and would like to see in other games to be honest) the game was all about the bells and whistles. All flash and bang, no meat to it tho. I dont understand the appeal of the game either to be honest. Still tho, Halo is like the best game ever created compared to Republic Commando. Its wierd tho, after reading most of the complaints of these boards regarding KotOR2 (and 1 really which also got a fair share of complaints if you being honest, most folks just have selective memories) it seems to me that todays gamers are programmed to not think during games anymore. Most complaints (and this is STRICTLY personal opinion, not fact) seem to stem from 1) I had to make my own choice rather then be told exactly what to do 2) I couldnt kill everyone in my way and not be punished, and 3) I ran into trouble when using exploints and altering my game. As I siad, just my opinion in general but most bug complaints Ive read stem from those areas or something similar. I played KotOR1 and 2 legitly from disk, didnt mod my box or use any exploits and only ran into 2 or 3 bugs the entire game in 8 play throughs. As a long time MMORPG player, 2 or 3 bugs makes a game almost perfect in todays world of computer games standards.

Me thinks they protest to much.
Kalfear replied to LordRaven's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Welp LordRevan (nice original name), Im not a moderator (heheh trust me on that, you would see bannings if I was). But protest to much? come on. First off the speculation threads are fine but get so outta control on speculation its silly. 2) We dont need 50 different threads all saying the same thing 3) OF COURSE THERE WILL BE A KotOR3. Havent seen a single person argue that. 4) What myself and others trying to get through peoples heads is when it is started LAs web site will announce it. Not Joes-im-a-star-wars-nerd.com Fan Site. Fan sites are created to make money. By creating FALSE stories that encourage debate they increase their potential to make money by increasing traffic. Its simple economics and dirty bussiness practices. 5) Lastly, for crying out loud people, KotOR2 isnt even released yet on PC and Euro Xbox. If Lucas is going to make ANY choices regarding the franchise it will be AFTER hes recieved Profit numbers from the world wide releases. Not before. Even those designers that were layed off a month or so ago were NOT making the whole game but working on the engine and such (things that could be used in more then just KotOR3 if so needed). IE Generic programs not related by anything other then name to KotOR3. So in closing, I dont think people protest to much, I think you read into things far to much. It strikes me as strange tho, why are you micro managings realistic complaints but not obviously false FAKE NEWS ANNOUNCEMENTS! Thats what strikes me as very odd to be honest. -
i dont "hate" anyone i encounter on the internet. i just disagree with your post. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> heh, I feel KotOR2 was one of the few games in last few years that was worth the money I spent on it Excellent game, very few bugs (that I encountered), played it 8 times now and going for 9th My only real complaint was the ending but thats hardly serious enough to hate a game for it Tried Republic Commando demo, one of the worst FPS Ive ever seen, no interest what so ever in it.

Gotta agree with Ost here: RA-Jeff isnt immature, some what nieve yes regarding Computer games and how much effect he thinks players will have on a computer game. Thats not immaturity tho. Hades is correct that at this moment in time KotOR3 has been cancelled. The proof is found on the LA web site Jeff, just need to drop by there and read its announcements (however its a older one so probably have to search for it), look for "layoffs" topic. Ost is totally correct that there WILL be a KotOR3 at some point down the road. Follow LAs web site weekly and sooner or later they will announce who is making it and when. To much money on the line for them not to make it.

I had this one happen to me on my 8th play through as well What I had done wrong was I stayed lightside until I got Mira in group and then went darkside, but Since I was still raising Handmaiden influence i kept raising and lowering my alignment. So figure I prolonged my change because the game coudnt track what I was actually going to prestige in so to speak. Not really a bug, in my other games when I went straight lightside or darkside I had no issues what so ever. So I guess the answer is (if your situation the same as mine) is pick a side and stay true to it. I evenually did get my prestige class and finish my 8th game tho.

"bonus dialogue" in KOTORII
Kalfear replied to neonblack102's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Think you have to start and finish twice, then it appears 3rd game! No biggy tho, most folks (that dont look at spoilers) will have to replay 3-4 times just to get the entire storyline anyways -

LOL Cewe, I think yas just have a case of Bastila love :PPPPPP Should point out tho that true she waits for you in the SF till you have battled through the entire SF when you go Lightside. But she joins you on the planet (the very first time she meets you after being turned) if you go Dark Side. So that says to me that she follows Revan only. Its not a case of picking the winning side as you still had a major fight ahead of you on the SF, no matter what side you pick. Also, Bastila never struck me as a leader anyways. Shes a tool to be used by a leader and she knows it. If you think through all the characters from 1 and 2, some are just not leaders and Bastila was one of them. Zal (even tho I hate wookies) came off as a leader and was. Mira could be a leader. Handmaiden definately could be (altho again shes smittened with the exile like Bastila was with Revan). Canderous obviously was a leader for Mandalorians from the moment you met him. The rest of the crew tho in both games were followers just by their characteristics/personalities. I do agree T3 knows where Revan is but hes not telling! So doubt he would have told Bastila either to be honest. Finally tho, in one of the play throughs on the LS, you see Bastila approach Carth after the Ravenger. Both Obsidian and Bioware been good at completeing the storylines on single characters (IE: if they went somewhere, theyt went there good or evil). So the fact Bastila is on the same ship as Carth after the Ravenger tells you she didnt go after Revan. Otherwise she would never appear and storyline would have been left open for lightside or darkside. Really finally: Handmaiden much hotter then Bastila :PPPPP

Hanharr <you> kills her in the dueling pit and that ends Miras interaction for the game! Other then GoTo, Hanharr was my least favorite character in game.

How many Different Rulesets are there??
Kalfear replied to Darth Sketch's topic in Pen-and-Paper Gaming
Lots of them as other poster showed you Differences usually come down to (at least I found it this way) how involved you want to get. You could do D&D which is very basic all the way to CoC or Civalry and Sorcery which track a amazing amount of things. And all those inbetween. Thats the main difference I always found anyways. Personal Opinion here: I always found useing spell components and tracking exactly where (body part) damage was taken to distract away from the storyline of what ever adventure to be honest, some folks like it tho. As I said, just comes down to personal opinion, really have to try the different ruleset to know if its for you or not. -
My favorite were always Traditional AD&D (hehe of course) and a little known game called Chill (modern day vrs vampires and such type deal) Have great memories from both

See other thread for answers: I just touched the surface of some of the issues you will face in SWG. There is a ton more but these are evident right from the get go by just reading boards. Like Catalyst, I played SWG as well and regrete it. Freinds tried to warn me but I bought into the potential rather then the facts until it was obvious SOE wasnt interested what so ever in the potential of the game. PS: you can only post if you have a active account (one of the few good ideas SOE had). Go read VN boards for DAoC to see why thats a good idea
-
Gotta go with Catalyst here, one of the worst MMORPGs ever made! Thats really sad to say to as it does actually have the most "potential" of all the MMORPGs out there. Star Wars itself should be a MMORPG designers dream come true. But SOE seems determined to miss that potential completely and utterly. Some of the things (but hardly all of them by a long stretch) you will face is : 1) Insanely boring grinding for the sake of grinding 2) punishment for wishing to become a jedi 3) even mnore punishment for becoming a jedi 4) Broken economy that rewards those that made money in old economic system (current one is VERY VERY unproductive for new players) 5) In a upcoming patch (combat upgrade) you will be forced to group up with 6-8 other players to kill even the most easiest of creatures. Of course this means you will be forced to join LARGE Uber guilds so you can even find a group if they will have you. 6) Totally unbalanced system that puts more emphasist on classes from UO rather then Star Wars (IE: Creature Handlers) 7) Bounty Hunters using known exploits but SOE flat out refuseing to fix those exploits Lack of storyline (which is a real feat considering its Star Wars with a built in storyline), lack of quests, lack of content for PvE (SOEs stance on that is the upcoming CU, why add more content when they can force people to group and replay old content). 9) Far as JTL goes, its fun for a short while but ends quickly (with in 20 hours play). No high end content in JTL either so you have basically purchased the expansion so you can shuttle yourself from planet to planet instantly rather then wait 5 minutes for the ingame shuttle). 10) as a new player, you wont be able to afford a ship for at least a year under new economic system unless someone who has money makes it for you. The game is totally and completely broken, it lacks any star wars feel to it beyond the initial immersment of seeing the SW designs. Once that wears off tho, there is no epic fights or battles, PvP is over run with exploiters. Jedi portion of game means you will now have a HUGE xp penalty at death and bounty hunters who will use 2nd accounts to ensure your put on the BH terminals (and then switch to their BH accounts) to hunt you down and get their reward (and you taking a 200k xp penalty (200k jedi xp = 20 million normal xp), over and over and over. If you EVER manage to reach Jedi Knight status, they will finally leave you alone because you can then and only then successfully fight back. Your jedi will be EXACTLY the same as everyone elses as there is no choices or designs, just follow the same path everyone else takes and kill things nonstop for no reason beyond grinding xp. Seriously think you should rethink buying SWG as its just not worth it. If you currently play EQ or EQ2, then at least you can get the multigame monthly pass so your not wasting additional money on SWG mon thly charges. Thats about the only way Id ever suggest someone try it and even then thats not a for sure thing. PS: This is way I want Obsidian or Bioware to make a NEW Star Wars MMORPG (along with Lucas of course). Their current game system is FAR more productive then SWGs is (of course the KotOR system would have to be tweaked and expanded). All they would seriously need to do is hire a long term MMORPG player (11+ years with 5 or more MMORPGs under their belt) to point out the changes that needed to be made and they could seriously and completely grab the entire SW MMORPG market along with a good portion of the fantasy MMORPG market. *Snickers* I know this because outta bordom Ive already (on paper) changed the KotOR system to work for a MMORPG. FFXI already utilizes similar graphics to gr eat success so graphics and engine not a issue what so ever.

Well since she didnt go with Revan to begin with (LS or DS) she has no idea where Revan is other then beyond the outter rim. So that allone cancels your theory. But also as Night stated in a different post when I asked why Bastilla wasnt hunted as the last jedi, his answer was. Dont take the last jedi so literally. Your hunted because you are not in hiding, every other jedi is. That makes the most sence to me from any theory I have heard. Regarding DS Bastila, she was on Korriban LONG after Revan left HENCE the holocron of her talking about what happens after he leaves. And even then says she will NOT follow anyone OTHER then Revan. So that also answers your question. Mostly tho, KotOR1 answers your question (Light side or Dark Side) Bastila follows Revan. Period! Good or evil she willingly follows Revans lead, not the sith, not the jedi. her side is choosen basically by Revan and she submits to it. That allone cancels your Bastila as Darth anything. Until Revan dies by someone else besides Bastila, Bastila will never be the leader and will always follow Revan and the path he picks. PS: The whole Darth Traya speach should also not be taken so literally. What Kreia was saying is there will ALWAYS be a Sith Leader. Names dont matter, be it Traya, Malak, Revan, ect. There must always be a sith leader is all she meant.

or will they re-titled kotor1 and 2 as kotor 4 and 5, then ten years down the road make the "real" kotor 1 and 2, which will be about a young Revan growing up and winning a podrace....errr nevermind. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ROFLMAO! good one Night PS: Is it just me or does Jarjar make episode one unwatchable! Just tried to rewatch it and ended up fast forwarding every single time that terrible THING (yes I know its a gungan) was on the screen. What a waste!
