1up's Urquhart Feargus interview
nightcleaver replied to funcroc's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I don't see how 50 years wouldn't be sufficient. Things can happen fast in the Star Wars universe, just as they do in real life. I imagine jedi would be fairly numerous at that time, but you'd still have some of the frontier-sy feel that was well-done in the KotOR series. The Vong wouldn't have anything to do with it - hasn't the book series pretty much ended as far as the vong go? -
Will intelligence be a more useful attribute? I was thinking of additional dialogue options, maybe make the +1 bonus from a twelve INT actually useful so you don't have to pump into an otherwise useless attribute to get any amount of skill points.

Yup.

The theme at the beginning and towards the end? Well, it covered (rather sloppily, I might add) all the other sounds and music that seemed to come with the video, so I wouldn't think that means much of anything.

Is there a Telos feature upon us? Check the vids section - there's something new.

It doesn't necessarily signify intent. How long has it taken for someone to dig this guy up? It could very well be a coincidence. I don't care how bloody 'strange' it is. He doesn't really have the same facial structure as the other guy, and freedon Nadd allegedly stole his soul?? Doesn't that kind of dehabilitate you?? I guess, possibly, he gives it back, but I had the impression you don't get your soul back when someone steals it. To further support that this could be a coincidence, or a matter of inspiration, the description that his body was falling apart and given an exoskeleton was explained, quite explicitly by dark force use. Perhaps there's a force on Onderon that does this? That would certainly explain "coincidence" - or even if there was a chance of such extreme consequences with dark side Force use as a, say, one in one thousand possibility would explain this "coincidence". Obsidian could be expounding on this phenomenon, or going off on another track completely - like, say, maybe his body was falling apart because of leprosy or something (highly hypothetical). In any case, I didn't want to play a Star Wars comic book - I wanted to play a Star Wars Obsidian game. I hope it is, at the worst, inspired by this guy of Onderon, a man who followed in the other man's footsteps or somesuch. I want this game to just tell it's own story, you know? Not someone elses, and I'm pretty sure that Obsidian has the same idea. Maybe not, though.

Soule was a mix, to me. Some of his stuff wasn't competent, some of it was really extraordinary. The sappy, "Bastila" theme comes to mind. I guess the people who think the music shouldn't be too good, because that takes away from the game, will be happy.
-
None of it's going to be synthesized, either That makes me really happy.

yup, but it was on another website.

To put it bluntly, it's all a matter of how jaded you are. I liked the story, but I couldn't say why. It was crappy, but it was enjoyable. The Star Forge quest was gimmicky; despite not knowing what it was, you knew you were always heading there, and that was the ONLY goal you had during the game, aside from all the interesting side goals. I guess they just flashed enough cut scenes and excessively bombastic nonsense that I had fun, and was drawn into the story. It still felt incomplete, though, and I think it would have helped if the one goal had at least involved varied troubles and twists along the way. The Revan's identity thing didn't change anything except how you saw what happened, and it was only one thing, but it was pretty neat. Despite knowing/predicting who Revan was, I managed to suspend my disbelief and like the story as if it had never been spoiled for me. If they had switched around how the story ran, and gave every planet it's own core purpose individual to itself (C'mon, the star map idea wasn't that interesting), it would have been a more solid story, and possibly more enjoyable to certain people, and certainly more likely to hold my attention past the fifth time of playing through it. If the order of planets said how the plot ran and why you went where you went, there would also have been more replayability, but I digress... It really was an amazing experience, whatever the reason. Keep in mind that this is Star Wars, famous for it's melodrama and special effects, which is what made it so awesome to many...

KOTOR 3 development stalled
nightcleaver replied to Craftsman's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I think the third, being based more on the second than the first if based on any of the others (more than likely), would be very much it's own game compared to the sequel they're currently working on. I would definitely prefer they did some sort of IP, though. The main reason I'm looking forward to this game is it's potential as an RPG, not because it's Star Wars. -
Is this the reason we havent heard anything else?
nightcleaver replied to lowiej's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Would it have been any good with LA doing it in house? I doubt it, unless they hired some big deal writers or something. -
KOTOR 3 development stalled
nightcleaver replied to Craftsman's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I just think this sequel is setting a high precedent. If they slap something together that's only based off of one ending, or combines endings ala Deus Ex: IW, it won't be as good a continuation (to me). -
Well, some would say it is, but that's also a different sort of game. It's an MMO. Let me put it this way, since it's likely no one else will: You're welcome to like the idea of eating and such, but many won't. I don't think it adds anything to the experience, and I see it as another time and management waster.

Are We Ever Gonna Get New Info On This Game?
nightcleaver replied to XboxSithLord's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Umm... I didn't mean it would destroy the story. I just said I'd rather leave it up to them, the marketeers and producers and developers, because there's no way to know if we want to know a spoiler unless we already know it. you didn't even read my entire post, did you Chemix? I guess it was too long for you. Do you think they should spoil the plot of a movie in movie theaters? I wouldn't pay to see the movie if I knew everything that happened. But no, that's not the issue; the issue is that it has a negative result, even if it's not a serious negative result. Get it? -
KOTOR 3 development stalled
nightcleaver replied to Craftsman's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I wouldn't have high expectations if it were made in-house at (no offense to) LA. It doesn't seem like the sort of game they were ever prone to put out and be good at making, especially considering the focus on story and character in the series so far. They started the trend with two out of house developers. Does this mean there will be no third in the series? I think the series is pretty much beaten to the ground, really, unless they wanted to take it another hundred years in the future. I can't see the story of Revan continuing momentum much more, though I guess we'll see once we've played the first sequel (ha). -
Are We Ever Gonna Get New Info On This Game?
nightcleaver replied to XboxSithLord's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
What if they don't know if they want to know or not about that specific thing? It's after the fact that matters; unless they go through the trouble to say, "MASSIVE STORY LINE SPOILERS" and totally separate the major story line spoilers from the minor spoilers, such as basic character descriptions, which is difficult to do when you know the entire story yourself. Besides that, we don't know whether it's the kind of mundane story that even fairly major spoilers wouldn't matter, or the sort of instantly, "Whoa" story that even a large amount of minor spoilers would ruin. If everyone had been told about the flood and the true purpose of halo in Halo, would (despite it not being all that amazing a moment) not the moment you find out about the flood mean less? You might actively look into such a spoiler as the flood, and NEVER realize what that means to your overall enjoyment of the experience itself, but it does take that surprise away. Someone, like myself, who wants to see info on the game but nothing that will seriously spoil the experience, might see info on a website and only realize when it was too late when they had seen a major spoiler, and shouldn't have looked into it in the first place. It's in Lucas Arts best interests for our initial experience to be better. If it's one of those special stories with it's own something, would you be able to know which spoiler's were good or bad to know? You'd go and look at the spoilers, but then find that they gave something away, such as the true identity of Revan or the Flood or The Nameless One's true name, and that spark was gone before you knew it. Putting, "SPOILERS" doesn't do anything to stop this, because while people want info, they don't want the original spark of certain things taken away from them. Do you see the distinction, how people can want to know more but not want to know the serious spoilers? Why they don't just show the whole plot to a movie in it's trailer (if it's a good movie; I suppose it's unavoidable for certain action movies) before other movies, just because the audience, "didn't have to see it?" Ok, so we have control; is it hurting anyone for them not to say anything, in the end? Is it ruining their experience of the game? Is it ruining anyone's experience of the game if they DID release the entire plot beforehand? (or rather enough of it that the experience was spoiled) My answers: No, no, and yes. -
Questions the the Devs - Take 2
nightcleaver replied to EnderAndrew's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
They have one guy doing the music, and I couldn't see how the rest would be affected by such rumoured (though likely true) layoffs too much. Let's hope the sound crew is still capable of quality work. I can't imagine LA would advertise how badly the sound would turn out in the end -
Lame Prestige Classes...
nightcleaver replied to Grand_Commander13's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I had the impression, after hearing how PrC's could be cross-classed, that the PrC's really only ROUGHLY fit their "corresponding" starting classes; in other words, in HP and vaguely in combat ability. If you think they should make PrC's just an extension of the previous class, using the same Hit Dice on level up and focusing on the same skills, I don't really agree that they need to. Yes, it's strategically sound to place your assets in the area that's already strongest, but it's also strategically sound to offset the weaknesses of your current focus with new strengths. It spread you out a bit, but it seems more a matter of strategy than one of balance. -
Are We Ever Gonna Get New Info On This Game?
nightcleaver replied to XboxSithLord's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Well, I'd like to learn more about Atris. I doubt they're going to say anything about cameo's. I'd really like to hear about (at least) one of the party member's never mentioned before that were in the recent trailer. Planets I could do without, and I don't get the obsession with coruscant. Most of all, though, I'd like a REAL TRAILER. It seems like LA is taking a, "mums the word" approach to story spoilers for the sequel. That trailer they gave it has a horrible voice over, and it almost makes you think the entire game has lots of choices and improved gameplay dynamics, but a non-existing story-line. I know that, logically, it'll have a storyline, and it'll (probably) be good, but it's hard to trust when they've said so little, and haven't even released a proper trailer to the storyline. -
Yup - I think Calo Nord's responsible for this one. I find it hysterical how people were complaining about another "hypocritical" goody two-shoes.

Yoda, Vanda Race Question
nightcleaver replied to Morgan_Hearst's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Which is stupid, because four year olds should be exposed to some mystery. Heh.... grumpy bartender yoda... He doesn't speak in riddles, but perhaps he talks like someone from an old "20's speakeasy" movie. "Use the Force, kid..." (I know, it's really lame....) -
