  1. So is it a rational decision to buy a game you probably won't play or enjoy simply because you like something about the company, or because you feel they might make a game you would like some time in the future? You could buy a game and give it away as a gift, perhaps. And I know there were people who bought Galactic Civilizations II with no interest in the game itself, simply because they wanted to express support for Stardock's attitude towards DRM.
  2. I think it's tremendously sad that a developer has gone out of business and a lot of people have lost their jobs. Although Hellgate: London wasn't really my kind of thing, surely it's good to have as many different developers as possible? A small number of mega developers doesn't seem the best way to encourage innovation or diversity.
  3. So a giant fish appeared without warning in the Tiber Septim hotel. I killed it. No-one reacted. If I had something like that lying across the living room, I would react.
  4. As this is Obsidian's forum and Obsidian's responsibility, I think it would be better if people didn't start accusing each other of illegal behaviour here. I'd also prefer to keep this thread for discussion of the TSLRP itself and progress towards it, not the beta-theft incident. Okay?
  5. Wouldn't that be Morrowind? No game has ever been browner. Seriously, even bleak and gritty settings are allowed to have green trees!
  6. The faces look fine, but then I'm currently playing Oblivion so Cliff Richard looks fine to me. The facial expressions could have done with showing a little more fear, perhaps, but we don't know the characters so perhaps the engine can handle that but just didn't need to in this case. It's hard to judge the colours at night, but fantasy worlds should for the most part be quite pretty, and I hope Bioware doesn't forget this. On the whole, the trailer doesn't show many of the things that matter to me in a game (few trailers do, really), so who can say at this stage?
  7. I pop my head out of the window, decide nothing at all is happening, and go back to what I was doing. I leave the window open.
  8. Oblivion with OOO. I'm level 14 and I still have to run away from lots of things. I don't remember there being Frost Titans in the original game.
  9. That's a good question. It depends how old they go, but if they're looking to get into LucasArts' old adventure catalogue, then DosBox or something like it will be necessary and should be incorporated into the software download so that the game runs with a single click, rather than the old Ultima collection approach of 'Here are the games, and here's a hint sheet that might help you run some of them if you're lucky, now we've got your money so go away.' I would really love to play Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis again, it's years since I had a working copy of that.
  10. The side quests weren't spectacular, it's true. I'd recommend doing what I did, which is mostly ignore the sidequests the first time you play through, so that they're still there to keep the second time fresh. And this is not a twitch game. Trust me, if I can get through it (albeit with a little help from you guys), you don't need much in the way of twitch abilities.
  11. Oblivion with OOO. Kvatch at level 5 didn't go terribly well. I think I might wait and go back when I'm level 10.
  12. There's a solution to this in the FAQ. Reload from before you enter the secret academy, then choose different dialogue options to avoid this glitch.
  13. I don't think forum is a Latin word now - it's an English word of Latin origin. There's no requirement that English words follow the rules of another language for pluralising nouns. Also, I think we can move this to Way-Off Topic.
  14. Lawful Good Human Wizard (3rd Level) Ability Scores: Strength- 10 Dexterity- 12 Constitution- 12 Intelligence- 16 Wisdom- 11 Charisma- 12 Hmmph. 3rd level. I don't even have Fireball yet.
  15. "Nearly all degree courses in video gaming at British universities leave graduates unfit to work in the industry..." Link
  16. Africa may have been forsaken by God, but not by the Chinese. Expect Africa to be the battleground between 'Western' and Chinese views of economics and political systems. The Middle East will continue in its present state of, if you like, stable volatility. This will be so even if the political leaderships of more countries recognise the state of Israel - public opinion will still despise its existence. I think there's a good chance a Palestinian State will come into being in the next ten years, and much depends on the relationship between that state and Saudi Arabia. Obsidian Entertainment will overtake Bethesda and Bioware as the major producer of quality Western RPGs.
  17. Let's keep it civil, eh?
  18. Some sort of rifle, I think it was, on a navy practice range. This was when my secondary school was trying to diversify what it offered for PE. We had six two-hour lessons and that was that. I didn't enjoy it much. I switched to ice-skating the following term and fell on my arm - couldn't move it for weeks.
  19. Hi. This sounds like a glitch. Are you playing XBox or PC? Reloading from an old save game outside the Academy might work.
  20. Jack Keane, because good new adventure games are few and far between.
  21. I'd like to hear what the teacher involved thought. It's easy to dismiss this, but bullying and discrimination can be subtle and the teachers, unlike us, are on the ground and know the full story.
  22. I think it does. Enemies don't level up, so eventually my combat skill will overtake theirs, even if I'm not particularly combat-focused. Cheers.
  23. I've installed Oblivion and am playing with OOO this time, so here's question for someone who's done this before. How exactly does leveling up work in OOO? The readme says it slows it to a fraction of vanilla Oblivion (1/3, or 1/6) but doesn't mention any other changes. The reason I ask is because I know the original levelling system was seriously screwed up and required total micromanagement, in that you had to choose all the skills you planned to use as minor skills not major, then only use one or two time and again in order to get stat multipliers, and if you didn't do this you could easily find your character getting weaker and weaker relative to your opponents. In my previous games, I installed an alternative levelling mod called AFLevelMod, which solved the problem. How does OOO overcome this problem?

    hi

As you're of Scottish extraction you'll probably be okay, but few other Americans are strong enough to drink Irn-Bru and survive.
  25. I think this is headed towards a general discussion of shipping experiences and woes, so I'll move it to Way-Off Topic.
