I agree. Those two characters would be heavily overpowered, and I don't sense any appetite for 'epic levels' beyond what KotOR2 already did. Plus it's been too long since the first two games were released. What we really need is enough cameos and background to tie up all the loose ends, but at the same time no prior knowledge required by new gamers. I know that's a difficult trick to pull off. Obsidian could do it, though, and probably Bioware as well.

While I think a single-player KotOR3 isn't very likely in the near future, since the MMO is going to be LucasArts' main focus, I still hope for a resolution to Revan and the Exile's stories. We know plans for the game were under development by a LucasArts in-house team, so those presumably still exist. A lot depends on whether the KotOR MMO manages to avoid the resolution of Kotor1 and Kotor2's storylines. I'd love to see cameos of Atton, Mira, Bao-Dur and everyone in KotOR3, as we saw Carth and Bastila in Kotor2.

"How To" KOTOR 2 On Vista
SteveThaiBinh replied to Bass-GameMaster's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
KotOR2 doesn't work on laptops, because it wasn't written to. A few people may have managed to get it to work, but still a lot of people who come here with laptop issues never get them resolved, even laptops than can play seemingly more demanding games. If you have a laptop, you don't meet the minimum requirements, I'm afraid. -

I think you can never know how deep or original things will get until you actually play the game. You cannot assume from the presence of orc-like creatures that this game will be one long cliche, nor that it will be a stunningly original take on the orcish condition that will redefine fantasy for future generations. That kind of information doesn't get into previews or hype. It also depends on your own experience of playing and what you yourself bring to the game. -

Ooh, is there an ancient forgotten Empire that left lots of interesting ruins, too? Anyhow, if Volourn's right and these orcs are the way they are because they 'wrongly entered heaven', well, that doesn't seem like such a terrible crime. Moral ambiguity is always entertaining, although this writer does make some valid points, too. -
According to Wikipedia (ever reliable, I know, but stay with me ) Bioware opened a new office in Austin, Texas, dedicated to the MMO. My guess is, in 2004 and when forced to choose, they chose to work with their own IP rather than be beholden to LucasArts. Two years later, with more money around from Elevation Partners (pre-EA), perhaps the choice was no longer necessary - they could afford to do both. Wow, it is almost a year, isn't it?

It's possible you have a corrupt save game. Try loading from an earlier save, if you have one. Problems with an Xbox version of the game (assuming you have an un-modded Xbox) are often due to damage to the disk. The first thing to do is clean the disk, and if that doesn't work, contact the shop where you bought it, or LucasArts directly, and ask about getting the disk replaced.

Hah! Like you can stop us. Suggestion noted. -
Would anyone like to hazard a guess how long S. Ossetia and Abkhazia remain independent before being welcomed back into the loving embrace of Mother Russia. Maybe the Americans should give the Georgians US passports and declare Georgia the 51st. state? Oh no, that would be unreasonable and provocative, but apparently what the Russians have done isn't.

Do you think Bioware surrendered all control over what it does and does not work on when it allowed EA to purchase it? I suspect (though of course we can never be sure) that they're working on a Kotor MMO because they want to be. Now that might be because they love the setting and chose the MMO rather than see it handed over to someone else, but it might also be that they have a plan to make it more appealing to single-player RPG fans.

*sigh* Yes, Gromnir, that's precisely what it is. Nevertheless, a romance in a fantasy setting can be 'unrealistic' and at the same time well-written and compelling, and need not have a happy ending, at least not the conventional one. -

Plenty of fantasy novels have romances - some are barely more believeable than popular romances, but others are quite well done. Surely game writers have a starting point in the conventions of the genre, and then the freedom to take it darker or more realistic if they wish. I'd recommend the love story between Robin Hobb's Fitz and the Fool to anyone. -
No, of course not, I'm only trying to give a balance to your representation of what happens in the KotOR2 forum. Actually I agree with your broader point that games are too often released in a sub-standard condition. Alas, I think publishers sometimes care more about this quarter's figures than their long-term reputation.

It's hardly surprising, I guess. KotOR1 and KotOR2 were single-player RPGs, probably bought mostly by people who like single-player RPGs, so of course many of us would prefer KotOR3 to be the same. I'm still very curious to know what attracted Bioware, famous for their stories, to MMORPGs. Do they have something up their sleeve?
-
That is not representative of opinion on the KotOR2 section of the boards, I would say. Most of the discussion of bugs now comes from trying to play the game on hardware or operating systems that didn't exist when the game was released. I think KotOR2 was excellent until the end, better than KotOR1 in many ways.

I suspect, though I can't be sure, that I've replayed this (and QfG1) more than any other adventure or RPG. I could quote you entire sequences of dialogue, and many of the item labels as well. I'm really looking forward to this, but of course I can't play until I've taken my character through QfG1 first.

A number of articles in the UK press today suggest that the London organisers already have a few ideas about how to make the next games different, if not better. In particular, getting more active participation and support from the people (so many venues in Beijing were empty most of the time or filled with 'volunteers', not actual sports-lovers) - I guess that has a lot to do with how ticketing is handled. They're also going for more of a party atmosphere. We'll have to see what that ends up meaning.
