  1. Socialism in the US!!! Where will it end? Castroism, that's where! Whatever happened to moral hazard anyway?
  2. "it was a robot producing exploration planet like any other" I love it.
  3. I think we sort of got that. As for patching, my understanding is that you're not supposed to patch NWN2 before installing Mask of the Betrayer. That's certainly the order I follow: NWN2 --> MotB --> Updater. If you do seriously wish to vent, I'd recommend a polite-but-firm printed snail-mail letter to the publisher (who is responsible for tech support) and/or the gaming press. You are a consumer and you do have a right to be heard.
  4. Thread pruned. That really wasn't going anywhere nice or healthy.
  5. I think that of all the many things she is or appears to be, an idiot is certainly not one of them.
  6. No, you shouldn't. On the other hand, a certain level of technical competence has always been required to play PC games - I remember the constant nightmare of figuring out what my soundblaster card settings were in the pre-Plug&Play era. I think it must always be the gamer's responsibility to keep his/her computer in a reasonable condition, with drivers updated and the memory largely free of glitch-causing applications. When was the last time you did a fresh wipe/reinstall of your hard drive?
  7. Well, we'd like to help you, but you give so little information about your system and problems. I assume the game you're talking about is Neverwinter Nights 2, in which case the best place to go for support is here.
  8. No no no no no no! Say 'No' to Fahrenheit-style descent into fantasy-prophecy magical claptrap! Say 'Yes' to police procedurals in a satirical morally-ambiguous futuristic social order!
  9. Yes, it is. That said, I think it's good for everyone involved if game-makers produce demo versions of their games. Why don't they always do this? Is it technically difficult, or time-consuming, or is there another reason?
  10. Pathfinder was on TV today. I couldn't really see anything, and so have very little idea what was happening.
  11. It seems Microsoft is determined to save the PC as a gaming platform by making consoles equally unstable: http://www.gamespot.com/news/show_blog_ent...adlines;title;2
  12. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/269...-footballs.html Is it such a bad thing to reward aggressive (and usually therefore entertaining) play?
  13. In the sense of "It's not what you do, it's the way that you do it." It's easier to take McCain seriously, even if you disagree with him. George W. was just so - well - substandard.
  14. *grumble* Well, at least McCain is a grown up. Hopefully things will get better, no matter who wins.
  15. I honestly don't see the point of having the United Nations based in a country that despises it and flouts it at any opportunity. And the infuriating thing is that the UN does so much good work around the world in child protection, food security, development and culture exchange and yet has to put up with so much nonsense from weak US politicians.
  16. That was a really interesting read, thank you. I appreciate that this is local politics and she has her own axe to grind, so to speak, but a good, critical, local view nonetheless. I don't think there's anything there that makes her worse than most politicians or particularly unfit to govern, so it's been interesting to read some of the knee-jerk reactions from pro-Republicans on the internet, basically dismissing everything she has to say outright because they know more about Sarah Palin from one speech than this woman ever could. According to one of the soldiers who was tortured in 'Nam with him, it doesn't. He claims McCain is very unpredictable, has a horrible temper and is unsuited to running a country. The guy's running an ad campaign on TV about it, to boot. Sounds a bit like Swift Boat Veterans for Truth again, doesn't it?
  17. Very tough question! A few minutes' thought, and the ones that are coming to mind are largely due to the music: and the .
  18. Fine. But don't expect to get called 'leader of the free world', and kindly stop calling yourselves that.
  19. Well, thank you for your contribution, Volourn, interesting as always. Nevertheless, the growth of consumer power and consumer organisation has had a positive effect in other areas of the economy - getting shoe companies to stop using child labour, for example. It's not perfect and it's not as powerful as I'd like it to be, but it's an important mechanism for improving how companies behave. Anyone know anything about these people?
  20. It's a feature of our modern capitalist world that 'The Consumer is King'. Most gamers do not believe the world owes them something, but they do expect to have power as consumers. Expressing a dislike for a DRM system and a preference for alternative models of anti-piracy is not unreasonable, nor is it childish. We need more campaigns on this issue, and we need some powerful consumer associations to effect some changes in an industry that too often treats its consumers like crap and expects to get away with it.
  21. I absolutely confident that they're not. I still prefer the Stardock no-DRM approach to anti-piracy.
  22. Topic somewhat pruned. I don't really see where this topic could go that wouldn't involve it getting locked, but we don't do precrime here, so come on guys, surprise me.
