  1. Jup, comes from 'master and commander'. Though I doubt it's meant as the naval commander in this case. The watcher didn't join any navy so there's no reason to use commander in the description. They'd have used captain otherwise since captain is a title(can be rank) and commander is a rank in naval terminology. I wouldn't say no to a naval dlc though, but I doubt the demand would be great.
  2. http://www.rpgcodex.net/article.php?id=10317 Not too fond of that. WM actually made me replay the game. Don't get me wrong the DLCs sound great and I'll enjoy playing them but I do dislike random DLC which can be easily ignored(you could ignore WM but then you'd lose a buttload of content since it's all part of one another). I just fear that since it all are standalone DLCs they'd introduce a lot of new things but can't expand on them because each DLC is seperate from one another. Yeah, the takeaway there is that it's just the market dictating this, not something Obsidian has all that much control over. Given that it has to be this way, this is a better game for it at least; WM fit well with the first game, but this game's island structure makes it perfect for distributed small chunks 'o fun, plus there's level scaling, so it'll be easy to work stuff in. My hope is that each chunk will also include some additional functional content -- fishing minigame, expanded ship combat, etc. Agreed. Islands would force em to be more standaloneish than WM, and it'd be a waste if they just kept to one island and expanded on that. But I do hope that there will be some common thread throughout the DLCs/islands. Just a few hints here and there, or some random quest which goes through all the DLCs. Something that connects them.

  4. or 400, 500, 600, or if Boerer 4000 Well that's the trick isn't it? If you don't stop playing you can't fall into a deep depression.
  5. Prefer postgame DLC too, but I replay/reread/rewatch if I really like it. It really depends a lot on the DLC itself though. In the case of WM I didn't actually mind it because it was enough content to offset the fact that I 'needed'(I didn't replay PoE since an expansion was soon coming out, so I was happy to replay it) to play PoE again. But content like a new character class, an added questline, or more items isn't a reason for me to replay a game.
  6. "Nature, take the life she gave." Away with you, beggar! Don't touch me! I'm super important.
  7. Music in PoE wasn't bad at all, it fit the theme, though more variation would've been nice(or just let the ambient sounds go without music for a while). Considering the new theme the new ost will most likely be more upbeat. TW3's OST is one of my favorites, but it'd say the biggest difference is that PoE OST is ambient music while TW3 is much more cinematic(wouldn't call it generic though). Neither OST would fit the other game.
  8. Wouldn't word get out when you sell the stolen goods? Yes. Your ship would also have been the last seen in the proximity of multiple attacked ships. Should only happen if it's not the first time though. 1 ship dissappearing, could be anything. Multiple ships dissappearing and most of the time your ship was in the same area should get people suspicious but again you shouldn't suffer a moderate or higher reputation loss. What would be better if they put in some Q-ships then. So you think you attack a trading vessel but instead you get a vessel packed full of mercs. And concerning stolen goods, would depend on your fence, no? He wouldn't want others to know where or how he got his goods since that'd be bad for business.
  9. That’s rare but interesting opinion. Than again I am witcher fan (as read original books a while back) so the game about Geralt and something he would actually care about is more interesting to me than politics he wouldn’t give a crap about. I am the same, but Geralt getting thrust into political situations where all he wants to do is be with his family is standard in the books. The Witcher 3 fails imo because it tries to do too many things. Is it a sequel to Witcher 2? Is it a sequel to the books? Or is it its own game? It tries all three and inevitably fails at all of them. Witcher 2 may lack my favorite characters from the books, unlike Witcher 3, but it succeeds at being a fantastic RPG due to its focused scope and great deal of reactivity, perhaps the most of any game ever made in the genre. Just because Yennefer finally shows up in Witcher 3 doesn't mean I can't objectively see that Witcher 2 is better crafted from a story perspective. I just hope Deadfire doesn't suffer from the same pitfalls. Rushed expansion with a big drop in quality, which is fairly forgettable and worth skipping except it wraps up story, so it’s a must play? No thank you. Expansions are there to expand content. They don’t have enough content to carry entire finale. The Ascension mod made it bit better though. And an epic ending for the watcher doesn't really fit tbh. Or at least my watcher isn't. He's more of an investigator than a 'Fear me mortals!' kind of guy. Disagree that expansions don't have enough content to carry a finale. DAO:A and TW3B&W have enough content to make a proper ending. Neither of those expansions are finales. One is a stand alone story, the other is a bunch of poorly thought out fanservice. I'm with wormerine on this. If you'd read my 2 last sentences it was primarly to show that expansions can have enough content to carry a finale. But most devs wouldn't do that anyway because it'd be a **** move to force people to buy the expansion pack just to get the 'real' ending. Blood and Wine does take place after TW3 though(you can play it beforehand but it doesn't make much sense) and is considered the final chapter of Geralt though.

  11. How can you not like Combat C? Really? I thought it was perfect. I find it ridiculous to be in a bustling city with as much to do as in a forest. I do hope there's a murder mystery quest in deadfire.
  12. It would only bother me in the first playthrough of a game. Don't recall it in PoE, but since WM it's a bit too easy. It actually made my soulbound weapon unlocks harder to complete.
  13. Classic. I rarely play on harder difficulties(unless those harder difficulties are still easy). I don't want to spend too much time learning the spells and mechanics to learn how to play the game properly. I don't get much enjoyment out of finishing a very difficult fight. Only reason I would do those is just to complete quests. Much more of the questing/story type.
  14. It's not a bad comparison. You're born a ginger, just as you're born a homosexual. Sure you could pretend you are straight, or dye your hair but that in the end your hair will still be ginger when the dye is removed and you'll still be homosexual even if you try to pretend you aren't. It's okay for people to lose their minds over sexuality, but not if a character is ginger? It's not about being ginger or being gay, but about certain inherent characteristics which are okay to bitch about and other inherent characteristics where it's silly to bitch about. If for the last hundreds of years gingers were persecuted for being ginger and then it would be okay to be ginger, people would also lose their minds if suddenly gingers were added to the game. But it's not. Gingers are a part of life, just as anyone else with a different sexual orientation or skin color other than yours. Difference is that there are still a lot of people who are uncomfortable, disgusted with people who're too different than them. So it's not a bad comparison.
  15. No. In most games custom-made companions serve as nothing more than soulless mercenaries. I find it hard to imagine a character while the game decides to treat those companions as practicaly non-existant. They don't have any dialogue, they're just.. there. I don't have that much imagination unfortunately. DOS did it pretty well though. You'd miss out on some great dialogue and quests if you don't choose the pre-made companions but the custom-made companions were actually acting like companions.
  16. Full VO really isn't necesarry and a bit of a waste of money in CRPGs like PoE and DOS imo. Don't get me wrong, VO in DOS2 was great but most lines I skipped because I was done reading the text while the VA was still in the middle of the dialogue. VO should be used to set the tone of the character. VA voices a couple of words and you imagine the rest with the VA's voice. First line and after a couple of clicks another line is all that's needed. And unless you only have a very limited choice of PC variation or you have the budget of SWTOR, VO for PC just isn't feasible. Not necesarry either since chances are you'll be given a crappy dialogue wheel. (I can understand why the dialogue wheel was chosen, but not why it was praised back then)
  17. The bridge district murder that Mannock already said is the one that springs in my mind the most. The other one is the quest from the Dark Brotherhood in the house where you need to kill everyone(or convince them to kill eachother).
  18. I didn't think females existed in Dwarf species, I thought males mated with other males to carry on kin and such has been the message of the dwarves. I must say, this is a historically inaccurate rumor undoubtedly originating with the elves. The fact is Dwarves are hermaphrodites that lay jewel-shaped golden eggs and protect them by surrounding the nest with gold coins as a distraction. True, those rumors are false and most likely from the elves but that doesn't make your 'fact' the truth. Note that your theory sounds a lot like the lair of certain types of mountain-dwelling dragons. As you know the relationship between dwarves and those dragons are quite unique to the point that dwarves reflect qualities of those dragons unto themselves. Sure, this sounds great. But there are 3 reasons why they made this rumor. (1) Because they worship those dragons, (2) To ignore the grim reality of the procreation of the dwarf and (3) to lure greedy adventurers into their tunnels(advancement in metallurgy by surface-dwellers took it's toll on their economy so they need different sources of income, even if it comes down to graverobbing). But we're getting off the rails. Alaundo wrote a treatise about the procreation of the dwarves. Sadly, the truth is quite disgusting.
  19. Bloody hell, this is the first I heard of it. Completed it 3 times by now and could've used it all those times.
  20. I recall you were given Caed Nua as a roadwarden, no? Being a warden over a castle/fief doesn't make you nobility nor would it be hereditary. So losing Caed Nua would remove your wardenship over that area. But if in the world of Eora roadwarden would be something more akin to baron it would be debatable if you still own the fiefdom. The only reason you were given the title was because you had Caed Nua. And (I'm assuming) since you bugger off right after Cuad Nua is wrecked and go on a pleasure cruise I think your lands would be forfeit since you actually abandoned your lands. As a subject of Dyrwood you still have a duty. I suppose you then still have a claim but I see no reason why any of the peers of Dyrwood would back up that claim since there wouldn't be a benefit to it. Ofcourse if you had a noble background in character creation you'd most likely still be roadwarden(noble blood is pretty important). Also doubt you'll be considered a noble. With a noble background it's usually meant the PC was raised as a noble. So he'd be a child of nobility and thus be taught in the ways of a noble. A barbarian who received Cuad Nua wouldn't be considered a noble since he'd just be a barbarian who was given a title. He doesn't have the lineage of a real nobleman.
  21. The amount of time it takes depends greatly on the difficulty though. On normal it'll be less than 90h I think. And for lore like algroth said, the game itself is the best way to find out. Otherwise use the wiki.
  22. Would you mind explaining that to me? In what regard? Sounds very interesting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_pronouns#List_of_Japanese_personal_pronouns This is another example. Different ways to say 'I' depending on various stuff.
  23. I think he's happy that it hasn't been achieved since he wants to do it.
  24. 'All prices include VAT where applicable' Steam and GOG have VAT included in the price. Not sure if it's an error or not but Obsidian adds VAT on the existing price. Was planning on buying it on Obsidian, but it was €10 difference between here and GOG. Bit too much.
