  1. That seems like standard to me and I've done only this part of the game so far about dozen times Also Mechanic 4 and Stealth 4? My stealth isn't that high. What are you struggling with? What class are you playing? What are you playing? Barbarian moon godlike or fire godlike? Fire godlike is actually comparatively terrible until you get One Stands Alone or you get a few levels so that your fire damage and DR isn't abysmal. I don't think it's actually necessary to do the temple; I was able to get both the blunting belt and the figurine by selling everything I could in the prologue, killing all the NPC's, doing the blacksmith quest, killing the scavenger and scout at the camp, killing all the spiders by hiding between the two tents, killing the wolves/kobolds in the starting area, and looting everything I could from the respective areas. Don't forget the hidden loot in the altar and dragon skull of Black Meadow. There's a fine dagger in the graveyard east of Gilded Vale. There's a broken down tower & house in Magran's Fork that's protected by a will-o-wisp; if you're not on trial of iron, you can reload until you get lucky with your attacks, but that shouldn't be necessary. I had the chance to make four fan of flames scrolls from all of this as well. I just needed more plants and was too lazy to run off and find them. I did do the temple, but with four fan of flames scrolls and the figurine, you should be able to beat the Caed Nua ghosts without needing temple flail. When I did the temple, I had to use three scrolls, but you could easily do it with two if you're not on trial of iron.
  2. Yeah... in some other video game where classes are balanced. Are you kidding? This game's balance might not be perfect, but it's pretty damn hard to have a 'bad' character unless you're throwing a ranger to the front of the battle with a sword and shield and maxed intelligence while taking all talents and abilities that buff your pet and simultaneously never using said pet in battle. Seriously, this game a) isn't hard and b) doesn't require min/maxing to succeed with any of the classes.
  3. Dwarf or aumaua for might bonus. Wood elf for ranged accuracy bonus. Get might high and have an even mix of dexterity and intelligence. You can also bump perception to ~14 for dialogue options, but you're going to need some help from food, resting bonuses, or items in the later parts of the game to help with certain choices with high requirements. Cipher's generally pretty good. 'Bad' spells are few and far between. As long as you stick to the back, use your weapon to build focus, and use your abilities wisely, you should have no problems -- even if you take high perception for roleplaying purposes.
  4. High resolve isn't necessarily great, but you can utilize it for roleplaying encounters if you enjoy that. Barbarian Yell isn't spectacular. Savage Defiance and its upgrade are more ideal. You can also get really cheesy with One Stands Alone if you're willing to take some risks. Otherwise? Unless you're playing on PotD, and even then, barbarian is good enough with carnage and a two-hander that you don't have to worry about 'trap picks'. I don't think barbarians have many abilities that are abjectly terrible.
  5. You don't have to abuse the AI to beat PotD. What do you consider AI abuse? Starting an encounter and retreating to a bottleneck?
  6. Not at all. The debuffs doesn't even need to last long. You can rely on other members of your party to set up sneak attacks. If anything, int is a dump attribute on rogue. 3 Int takes you from 10 second duration to 6.5... which, honestly, isn't that big of a deal.
  7. For those of you struggling, I think I've mapped out a fairly consistent way to get through Caed Nua, which includes: - killing the backer for full plate - getting enough gold and reputation to buy the figurine and belt for ~6370 - doing the blacksmith quest by carefully pulling the mobs - killing the spiders next to the camp in Black Meadow - utilizing 4 fan of flames scrolls This is probably harder for rogues, fighters, rangers, and paladins because of their lack of a consistent AoE, but I'm confident it should work consistently, assuming you don't have to reload for a bad accuracy roll against the phantom.
  8. Probably 24 without food, 26/27 with a rest bonus, assuming +2 in a stat's max from race, +1 from culture, and an item that offers +3.
  9. Eothas' temple and Readric's are optional. You don't need them to do the MQ. You might want to return to them later at higher level though. You can get a lot of XP w/out any serious combat while solo. Eothas' temple is done for the flail that gives endurance back so that encounters are more survivable. Furthermore, it's fairly difficult to push through the entrance of Caed Nua at level four. It might be required to have plate, the blunting belt, Gaun's, and the figurine for it. Thank you so much! And yes exactly! Currently the early part of the game is a real pain, especially Caed Nua with the main room filled with Phantoms (I honestly think they should rework it by the way). After that, all the part where you can farm XP thanks to small quests in he Bay is actually quite easy. Still the last chapter is a challenge, and the last boss is honestly super hard. I probably reload more than 200 times (normal + PotD mode) to finally find some small rifts in the IA and to kill it. And I have no idea how you could do it with something else than a Rogue for now. I'm assuming the best way to handle the boss is to reload until you can petrify the titans. At least, that's my plan going forward.
  10. Sanguine Plate is like... two posts above yours. You get it from Pallegina's quest.
  11. Hard wasn't that bad. Hard I just ran into that trouble in the Endless Paths, not in other parts so much. I only mention Hard cause yeah even so, I quickly got sick of the Endless Paths because it was just nonstop resting, since every room demanded I exhaust my Wizard. PotD was more the one demanding it and/or it was highly risky not to utilize it. On hard Endless Paths demanded your wizard? I didn't even use my wizard. I had Grieving Mother, Durance, Eder, Kana, Pallegina, and my PC druid.
  12. Hard shouldn't be that hard. You're probably doing something important wrong in your positioning or use of spells. Especially if you've gotten past Caed Nua -- that's the hardest part of the game on hard. Are you using Aloth? Aloth is pretty bad. He's usable, but he's not great. You might consider replacing him if you're not happy with your wizard. Make sure Eder and Kana or whoever your tanks are go into combat first and distract the enemy. This is harder with shades because they teleport, but that's the reason Caed Nua is such a pain.
  13. It's a lot to look through, but: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/73488-soloing-poe-sucess-so-far-hard-dificulty-expert-mode/page-26?do=findComment&comment=1640470 Barbarians and monks seem to be having the most success in this thread, especially the latter. Although someone has completed the game as a rogue.
  14. Ranger get an ability later that lets their shots have a chance of bouncing off the enemy they hit, so intelligence can theoretically be put to good use on them. I've never tested it to see if it makes a large difference. Rogues, on the other hand, don't benefit greatly from intelligence, if at all. I wouldn't bother putting points into it unless you want to use it for roleplaying. Perception is decent -- not great -- on both, because it helps with interrupts. Frankly? It doesn't really matter. After maxing might and dexterity, you're not going to have enough points to put into any other attributes to make them matter significantly. The gains from one point of an attribute are pretty small in this game.
  15. Congrats, man! I wasn't expecting rogue to be here. Honestly, I think PotD solo's biggest hurdle is the early game. Eothas' temple, Readric's Hold, Meirwald... they all present a lot of difficult challenges. After that, I think that the game opens up immensely. It's just a matter of getting past Caed Nua! Looking forward to hearing what you did.
  16. I think 16 starting int might be ideal on the barbarian. The range on 14 isn't really doing it for me. Anyways, there are a variety of fine items that you can pick up in Black Meadow without engaging in any battles. You can also kill the wolves in the first area -- I did it without much of a scare as a fire godlike barbarian. You can kill the spiders by the camp by returning to the camp and hiding between the two tents, taking them on one or two at a time. And you can get the blacksmith's shipment by killing the two scouts and sneaking up to the box and snagging it before running off. So, keeping +5 saves ring and cloak (in case I needed one instead of the other), the door shield from the blacksmith's quest, and selling everything (including basically going naked in the prologue by giving stuff to the rogue there), I ended up with about 6771. And I could perceivable get more if I needed to, but I don't. I have to assume that all of this is going to be possible with a moon godlike in any number of classes. Blunting belt + figurine with 458 gold left.
  17. Vulnerable Attacks, Deep Wounds, Reckless Assault, Dirty Fighting, Vicious Fighting, Stay way from Escape and Backstab.
  18. I think the appeal of Cipher is that she trivializes most encounters because they're done before she has to worry about running out of Focus, which is incredibly appealing considering that all the other spellcasting classes are constantly holding back their spells for that "big boss guy."
  19. If anything, it should be: Real Good: Cipher Pretty Good: Fighter, Druid, Rogue, Barbarian, Chanter, Monk Good: Paladin, Priest Alright: Wizard, Ranger There isn't nearly as stark a difference between the classes as you describe.
  20. I really wish I'd kept better track of what weapons I got where on my first run through the game! It'd be so much easier to map out a path. I'm thinking M16 C12 D15 P8 I10 R16. Not sure if the Resolve is necessary, though.
  21. Why take those attributes? I took lower dex, higher might, a hit to perception in favor of resolve, and a few points in intelligence. I think I'm going to sit down and try out monk long term. I've only dabbled with it, but it seems like everyone's playing the barbarian nowadays. And I can totally understand why, all things considered!
  22. If you can't find someone that can do more damage than a ranged rogue, you're not trying. Ranged rogue is safe and easy. I definitely wouldn't say that it does more damage than a melee rogue, though. In general, on PotD -- and that's the only difficulty where melee DPS struggle -- yes, something like a melee barbarian or a rogue is going to struggle a little bit more because there's a lot more micromanagement and it's easier to be lazy and rest than to micromanage and pause constantly to make sure they don't get chunked down.
