  1. As said in earlier post, nerfs are bad smelling and temperamental goatlike animals. Here's what Kevin J. Anderson says about nerf herders in Illustrated Star Wars Universe:
  2. Hehe, yeah. Better not argue about fictious space robots too much or the real ones might come and shove you down the stairs. You do seem to be dangerously knowledgeable about the terrible secret of space. Oh, and I agree that scaring away the little dev presence we have he is probably not a great idea. I think most of the fans have their own continuity which consist of things selectively picked up from published sources. For me, it's early EU (roughly anything of EU published up to 2 years before TPM) minus some sillier comic book stories, combined with the later stuff I consider good. There's even some things in the movies I choose to ignore or at least not think much about.
  3. Ah, my favorite KotOR fan fiction. It's your fault that I think Revan as female, you know.
  4. Do jaguars4ever you listen! I wouldn't care less if the Basilisk looked like in TotJ or not. KotOR doesn't follow that style anyways so what would be the point? Copying Virago is weird, however and it is the Virago: Well, the wingtips are different, but the front view resemblance is quite uncanny. I wouldn't take the claims that the Basilisks were supposed to take on whole fleets alone that seriously. Mandalorians got beaten by some Onderonian beast riders and a couple of Republic warships after all.
  5. The usual justification for game systems that give you lots of extra hit points at each level up is that those hit points actually represent character's stamina and skill to perform last minute dodges on attacks that would have otherwise hit the character. Personally I prefer more realistic systems that don't have this problem to begin with.
  6. Yes, it's a new made up Star Wars obscenity, I think. I haven't encountered it before.
  7. I'll prove my geekiness all over again by elaborating on this one. Darth Nihilus: What happen? Colonel Tobin: Somebody set us up the proton core. Dark Jedi: We get signal. Darth Nihilus: What! Dark Jedi: Bridge door open. Darth Nihilus: It's you!! Exile: How are you darksiders!! Exile: All your essence is belong to me. Exile: You are on the way to destruction. (Nihilus tries to drain Exile and fails) Darth Nihilus: What you say!! Exile: You have no chance to survive make your time. Exile: Ha ha ha ha ....
  8. Well, of course. There's a lot of EU stories written about him before the prequels. Popular character and all that. I think the usual rewrite for those dealing his past is that they are actually about Jango's past.
  9. Heh, I knew someone would comment that. It's just something I noticed at my 3rd or so read through the Zahn's trilogy and I filed it away in my head as a common mistake to look out for
  10. A lot of stuff is in database, that doesn't make it canon in the eyes of canonists. The common definition for that is what's in the movies. If you try to talk about anything else to them and they'll stick fingers to their ears and start shouting "LALALALA ITS NOT CANON! I'M NOT LISTENING!" So if someone says "canon" he means the movies, no matter what you think is official. [nitpickingstarwarsnerd] Also, it doesn't seem to me that the database is so infallible. For example: 1. Gravity well projectors on Leviathan? Isn't that post-ANH technology? Perhaps it was just rediscovered. 2. One ysalamir, many ysalamiri, that's how it was in Zahn's books, but others got it wrong and always use the plural form. [/nitpickingstarwarsnerd]
  11. I see that the Failed Darksiders Anonymous is meeting again. I usually have hard time playing evil in these games. At least it feels that there is more of the subtle and easier to rationalize DS acts in this game than in K1. Using ends to justify means and all that. I'm playing a DS game now and doubt I can go all the way to the dark. I'm such a wuss.
  12. KotOR 1 is canon? I highly doubt that. Would be nice, though. It ties in with some other stories of that era too. You are not the only one who thinks like that. EU can be really crappy at times, but when it's great, it's really great.
  13. Hmm, I can't really see an epic post-RotJ story. There is already a lot of big stories at that timeframe already. A low fantasy treatment set in the shadow of some other EU story would work and I would love it, but I think most people would hate that. Most people want Star Wars stories be about saving/conquering the galaxy or something equally grand. Perhaps it could be a subtle story that would nevertheless affects the fate of the New Republic... The post-NJO idea is interesting but I'm not sure if I like that. Personally, I'd like the Old Republic 2000-1000 BBY era (2000 years after KotOR) where the Sith rose once more and would have taken over the galaxy if it wasn't for their infighting. There isn't much written about that period AFAIK so there would be a lot of freedom for the storyline.
  14. I'm surprised people hold RotJ in such high regard. It's the worst movie in OT to me. I even like AotC better, especially if it's the Special Edition RotJ it's compared to. Overall, ESB is the best and TPM is the worst in my books. It will be interesting to see how well Ep III will do.
  15. I used to rush through games, but I have learned my lesson and take my time now. My first K2 playthrough took around 40 hours. Well, it's true that the characters become ridiculously powerful, but the game is so easy anyways that it doesn't matter wether you min-max your characters or not. I suspect a munchkin wouldn't find so much satisfaction in munching this game, but what do I know? I have never been one.
  16. Hmm. The way I see it, a padawan can occasionally get some pointers from other master than his own. A student who has an affinity to healing skills might benefit from instruction by a master who has specialized in healing, for example.
  17. If you are too lazy to wade through the huge cut ending thread, you can go here instead: http://tubertarian.com/kotor2missingcontent.php
  18. Canon is just the movies, and maybe also the novelisations of them to a lesser extent. EU is the organized universe outside the movies that is kept consistent. Lastly, there is the stuff that's outside EU, like the games you mentioned, stuff that happens in "alternate universe", fan fiction, etc. EU is not canon and GL has invalidated some EU storylines with his prequels and will probably trash a few more with Episode 3. I do hope that movie would be done with already so the trashing of my beloved EU would stop.
  19. Eventually the revisionists are going to come out and change Virago's official description to mention that it was modeled after the ancient Basilisk war droids. Well, that's not so awful solution.
  20. I never got him to cough up all that info, but him being the droid was fairly obvious to me nevertheless. All that talk about probabilities and calculations and referring to the droid as "me" instead of "my droid", not to mention the implausibility of the droid being remote controlled and Goto ready to talk with the player all the time. Him being the droid intelligence meant for Telos, that's interesting.
  21. Yes, I understand "lunar" is an adjective that could refer to any old moon, not just the Moon. Luna is the Moon, though.
  22. Didn't expect better quality make so much difference. K2 soundtrack is more starwarsy of the 2 and pretty good, but I still like K1's better.
  23. Oh yeah, forgot the silly emperor clones. There's an idea that probably looked better on the paper.
  24. I see they are inserting the old Marvel comics back in the continuum. Of course, they will have to alter some things to make them fit. Originally there was no Spar and Boba was the 3rd survivor and the leader of those commandos, but that wouldn't fit the story as we know it now.
