  1. Past hour
  2. at this point only performing well by Microsoft standards matters, and probably even that isn't enough (see Hi-Fi Rush)
  3. didn't outer world perform pretty well by obsidian standard even come out with some enhance edition nonsense later what is the expectation of outer world 2
  4. So... is your contribution on the way yet?
  5. Fantastic news about your health GD, excellent to hear What a great retirement decision, you always spoke about travelling around the US and seeing the national parks. Now you get to do it in good company with Gwen You should create a blog with a one page story about each park, call it something like " A dogs journey around the gardens of the USA " Those types of tourist and interesting stories are always appreciated
  6. With the real name I'll have to revisit my notes on all female veterinarians in that area. I mean, when you first mentioned her I did check all of them online for red flags. You gotta vet vets ya know
  7. Great read about Gorths gaming journey and its a good initiative to see other peoples stories and experiences
  8. Today
  9. Hurlshot is 100% correct, the best way to ensure Obsidian doesn't get restructured or shutdown is for everyone to buy a copy of any game released by Obsidian We can add it to our Steam\GOG list of " games still to be played "
  10. I never like to hear news about any gaming company closing down. But technically the way listed companies are structured its not shareholders who make the decisions about who gets fired, retrenched or a company within the main business gets restructured\shutdown Its the board who decides this and its normally about the overall sustainability and profitability of the business unit. Microsoft would have millions of different shareholders and almost all shareholders have an expectation of a positive return on the share price which is understandable. No one would buy shares if they didnt increase in value because whats the point if they dont ? And the board of every company manages the shareholder relationship which means they have to ensure that every business unit performs and makes its target Its not unreasonable this type of structure and relationship and Redfall was a bad game. So the main difference between a small development company making a bad game and that same company being part of the larger company like Microsoft is there less appetite for making a bad game because you are expected to deliver on results in the latter example But I also imagine the board would have to consider reputational damage, so you dont just shutdown iconic and prestigious studios like Obsidian or Bethesda over one bad game or one initially badly received game They would balance these things
  11. Great story Gorthfuscious. Such an interesting journey and you have been around since the early days so you have seen things progress and advance to the level of gaming from where we are now
  12. Please, please, PLEASE increase the gold card drop rate. My partner and I have logged over 300 hours into this game and we are trying to 100% the game. The gold card drop rate makes the game very grindy and annoyingly repetitive.
  13. You were pretty good at keeping us out of the loop for sometime
  14. Using algorithms to decode the complex phonetic alphabet of sperm whales Just, wow. I can imagine it's like trying to talk to a completely alien race. Where do we even begin?
  15. Yesterday
  16. Dang, there went my cover. Now the whole world knows I'm Gorth!
  17. No mods at all. A completely clean install of the game with all the DLC content. I'm only getting that message crop up when I'm on a tactical map doing a mission. But as I said, 3 missions and 18 crashes and restarts. It's making me wary of investing any more time on the game
  18. Aww I’ve got a badge @Guard Dog yay, good to hear you’re Ok and enjoying life now
  19. Jeez, I wonder how this looks like for the people who are there live.. or are there any at all? Did they change the format? Didn't know there is semi finals and stuff now.
  20. Heya Guard Dog, Low tech retirement - nicely done! Life sounds as though it has been full, perhaps not always easy since you were here last, but the national parks adventure has (I assume) revealed lots of surprises and beauty of life's up and down unfolding. Look forward to hearing more about your journeys to and from as time permits on the world of the analogue
  21. Hey Everyone! I was trading emails with Azdeus and he said I should come see you guys. It has been a while hasn't it. The beginning of last year I think. I didn't even realize how long until I signed in and couldn't remember my password. I really hope all you fine folks and your families are doing well! 2022 and the first half of 2023 were a pretty rough time for me. I was dealing with lymphoma but with the help of early detection, some really great doctors and medical folks I'm almost as good as ever. Please don't ignore symptoms. If you feel off please see a doctor. After that experience I decided to retire. Much earlier than I was planning but life is beautiful, and short. It's meant to be enjoyed. Gwen (her real name) and I are still together and doing well. I don't know why I didn't want to use her real name online. It probably made sense to me at the time. I am so lucky to have met her. She is semi-retired as well and we are currently wrapping up a road trip to visit all the national parks in New Mexico. Eventually we will visit all the US & Canada national parks. 21 down, 90 to go. And forever to do it. Bri is graduating from college next week and we will be there to cheer for her. She is an amazing young lady with a bright future. So proud of her. I made peace with my brother I'm happy to say. I never really understood what the resentment was about but dealing with a serious illness changes your perspective on things. That's pretty much it. I do miss talking to you guys. After a career in tech I'm doing retirement decidedly low tech. I barely even use the internet anymore. I hope all of you are happy and healthy.
  22. I have to admit I am impressed by the sheer amount of work that went into the three minute presentation of Ireland's entry. Love or hate the song (one can certainly do both at the same time!), the perfomance is mesmerizing.
  23. That's weird. I just played through it a couple months ago and it ran pretty well. Do you have any mods that might be causing an issue?
  24. Heh, kind of an interesting theory to think that if Obsidian struggles to make it with their own IP's, they will just end up churning out Fallout side games. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I'd feel bad for Obsidian, but I would love to have more of their Fallouts too. Problem is they would probably lose their writing talent that separates them from the chuff. Tim Cain already seems to be semi-retired as he develops his youtube following.
  25. Long history of this happening. Recent example: Embracer. Older example: EA's Bioware deal also included Pandemic Studios, which they obviously wouldn't have bought if it wasn't a bundle deal since they closed it down in the first major round of layoffs post acquisition.
  26. Joyfully began the new Obsidian Community Blog feature ... 20 years people! https://forums.obsidian.net/profile/666-gorth/
  27. @melkathi@majestic@Hurlshort@LadyCrimson I just got word today from Guard Dog that he is well now, and really happy together with Gail! And he sends his best wishes to y'all!
