  7. Avowed could never be Elders Scrolls, because one big part of it being so popular still is it's easy moddability. I don't know why they just can't see this. If you put out your game on Unreal, there won't be any mods. The game will be forgotten in a month. This happens all the time with those games. You need mods, to keep people in the loop. Making mods for Bethsoft games is so incredibly easy that anyone can do it. Sure they sell more on consoles than PC yadda-yadda, but mods in the news are what brings people back over and over. Hell, you just have to look at Skyrim or FNV Nexus. The amount of mods for those games is crazy.

  11. Not only Feargus.... Apparently Chris Parker et all were pushing for it too. That had carried over for far longer though. Avowed wasn't supposed to just channel Obsidian's inner The Elder Scrolls -- it was supposed to do that AND be multiplayer on top of it. If dev cycles and processes wouldn't be an issue, they wouldn't be talking now about trying to shorten them to three or four years as one of the main commitments. From Bloomberg: A few successes later, Urquhart and his co-founders were in talks to sell the business to the company that had almost killed it. During the negotiations with Microsoft, Obsidian’s executives assembled a slideshow presentation for the concept that would become AVOWED, pitched as an ambitious cross between megahits The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Destiny that would allow players to battle monsters together in a massive fantasy world. It was an impressive if unlikely proposition. “My thought when I first saw it was, ‘I don’t think there’s a team on the planet that could execute on this,’” says Josh Sawyer, Obsidian’s studio design director. Two years later, Obsidian stripped out the multiplayer feature, and a year after that it assigned a new director to the project. By the time AVOWED came out, it had been in the works for nearly seven years. Also pretty curious how Feargus now wishes that MS would allow for risky and/or smaller projects to be made still, when it was Josh Sawyer who had to once again (see Project Eternity) battle hard with Feargus to get Pentiment off the ground. He even considered to leave had it fallen through. Credits where credits are due: Back at Interplay, when Feargus suggested to a then little known company called Bioware that they better make their next project a D&D game, he struck Gold. No less as no decent big D&D game had come out in many years before. Otherwise, he really doesn't strike me as somebody that should get too deeply involved on the creative side of things (the other founders aren't as regularly "visible" with wonky decisions, as Feargus is pretty much the public face of Obsidian, but who knows...) You know who should be in charge of all things creative? Whoever came up with the initial idea for say Grounded. Not only does that game cater to a specific niche rather than trying to be a little bit of everything for everyone: "It's ELDER SCROLLS MEETS OBSIDIAN MEETS DESTINY!" (Scope issues aside: A game made for everyone is a game made for no one). Grounded, unlike most recent Obsidian games, also has a distinct hook that nobody else on the market has: "Oh LOOK! It's Honey I Shrunk The Kids -- THE GAME!"

  16. The problem here is MS having a target of 30% profit for their games. So if Avowed/TOW2 came in at 20% profit, which by any measure would be a success story, the mere mention of them "not meeting sales targets" sets off an avalanche of "the games bombed/were a failure" type of unfair asinine comments which undermines those games and Obsidian's reputation. :(
  17. judge biery opinion and order (edit: the opinion length is ~500 words) for those unaware o' the liam conejo ramos story. HA! Good Fun!
  18. *chuckle* you began with a grammar argument... remember your "plural" claim? regardless, as already noted, our "pidgen" could confuse you regarding subject agreement, but it wouldn't make the action plural. perhaps you realized arguing grammar were not gonna be helpful to your efforts? regardless, you then shifted away from grammar (devil) and then indulged a logic fallacy: argumentum ad populum (deep blue sea.) you should be embarrassed. the only thing that surprises us after multiple weeks o' this most recent zor nonsense is your capacity to repetitive self own but either 'cause o' stubbornness or a lack o' self awareness, you keep plugging away with new and improbably more infantile arguments. again, that is utter irrelevant given the context o' the share was your attempt to prove how Gromnir has accused you of bringing up blix constant. the thing is, the context o' your share is that it comes AFTER you brought up blix and did the comical "mythical hans Blix video," bit. talk about context, eh? beyond reason and good sense, you made blix relevant in a a discussion about gary johnson and his aleppo blunder. your claim that our "ps" is proof that Gromnir is accusing you o' constant bringing up blix appears positive divorced from reality... especial given context. unfortunate, am having little faith you are gonna get this context thing. oh, and go ahead and keep repeating to us that we said that "your" targeted search of pahlavi were ridiculous, 'cause am hopeful beyond hope that maybe you finally recognize your mistake. your targeted search is indeed ridiculous given the context (you were moved by context moments aggo. strange) o' your effort to prove relevance o' pahlavi or an effort by western media to embiggen. 'course is maybe just another grammar fail on your part. 'cause o' your reading comprehension difficulties and grammar misunderstands, you thought we were claiming that all targeted searches everywhere is flawed? would be a curious reading seeing as how we singled out your search specific and then observed who targeted searches can be useful when retrieving facts and data and such, but that for assigning relevance and a western effort to embiggen, your targeted search were positive impotent... and a lie. gonna count that actual number o' western stories in the list o' 73 we saved from the day in question? here is a hint: is considerable less than 54. every zor source needs be checked. you misrepresent as with ps: hans blix, or you flat out lie. 'course the lying is not a shock as you are the low character guy who don't see anything the wrong with accusing journalists, politicians, cops and others o' moral turpitude before there is enough information to make such accusations reasonable... and your flaccid whataboutism does not in any way rehabilitate or excuse your lack o' character. is just who you are. HA! Good Fun!
  19. Playing this on PS5. I've got the jump boots, though they don't jump very far. But they get me around. But what they don't do, is jump from to the crashed spaceship by the Vox island--I try from the nearest place, with a running start, jump, activate the boots-and they drop me into the water every time within inches of the ship. Whereupon I drown because I'm apparently too lame to swim. So I tried the other way into the Vox, bring the mangled arm to the woman guard at the entrance to the bridge, did that successfully; then went after Charlton, her cousin. I think that was his name. He blathered about this and that and refused to return to her with me. I was pretty careful in my selection of responses. Nothing worked. I went back to her to see if talking to him was good enough. No. I tried fulfilling his wishes of my talking to the Hogarth boss of the town but boss guy said, "What are you doing here?" Where oh where have I gone wrong. I enjoyed the first game and appreciate the visuals and characters in this one, but I do feel the pain of the person who said, in discussions here, that "this world is dead". It does have a deadness about it thus far. Still, I like RPG first person games. So trudging onward.
  20. It's not illogical in the slightest. It's the result of your writing in pidgin, which is a choice you make. As it stands, I'll take it as that though because this is even more boring than the rest. That's in the context of you not providing sources and congratulating you for finding one that time. Highly relevant, given your conduct here. And congratulations even if- or perhaps more so because- it showed what I was saying was correct. Really? You called looking for reza pahalvi ridiculous, on this very page, to whit: Oh dear. Well, someone can't it seems, though you do seem to be predominantly lying to yourself. Makes things easy for me, I just have to check your posts on the same page since you can't be consistent between them.
  21. Fallout tv show season 2 ended today. Tbh, not sure what to make of it. Was it bad? Not really. Was it good? Meh. Felt really short to me. 8 episodes and barely anything happened. I couldn't even tell you what exactly happened in those 8 episodes except a very rough outline. At the end of the day it was a lot of fan service and memberberries. Don't think I care too much about the changed lore implications, but I'd be lying if I say it doesn't hurt at least a little bit.
  22. Finally finished watching Rings of Power after a bit of a summer hiatus. Overall, still rate it as being OK, and the first season would have got a lot less criticism if it had been more like this. Most of the criticisms of the first 6 episodes still stand, though most of them are just kind of annoying more than anything. Rather less of the extremely annoying once you notice it indirect speechifying in the last two eps at least due to all the ackshun. However, much of the improvement was due to what we seemed to deliberately not get much of in S1: aping the still far superior movies. Balrog, Sarumanesque wizard standoff; the siege of Eregion was... strongly reminiscent of Helm's Deep, even allowing for both having to have similarities ie both being sieges. And it still has the ultimate problem: if Sauron can subvert Celebrimbor's mind- and he'd be at worst the third greatest elf on ME behind single G and double G- then what does he really need the rings for?
  23. Other way around iirc; while Feargus may have wanted a Skyrim like- and who in gaming management wouldn't, really- Avowed started off active development as a multiplayer game; then switched to single player, then with zones rather than seamless. That interview was from 2016, before even PoE2 launched. I don't think there's much evidence of unusual development trouble in either really, you just tend to notice issues more in games you pay attention to. Both games had pretty close to standard dev cycles time wise for games of their scope; Avowed slightly longer and OW2 probably a bit shorter. If there's one thing Avowed delays stuffed up for sure it was staggering releases properly, ideally you'd want longer there.
  24. There needs to be some kind of stopage in the game when you die.. becuase I’ve died and the game is still loading me back to my respawn and I could here my character tell the buggy that it’s okay and to go back to the nest.. basically saying that I didn’t get to my buggy fast enough to revive him and I’m still in the loading screen.. then after a few more seconds of waiting I hear my character getting mauled by some unknown bug because IM STILL IN THE LOADING SCREEN.. tell me what I’m supposed to do when I can’t even see the creature that is killing me.. it’s currently been 10 minutes of the loading screen and I’m still dead and can’t even hit the respawn button BECUASE IM STILL LOADING IN.. time needs to stop when you die.. or at least hen you enter the loading menu because this is a really awful experience
  25. BBCode has not existed on this forum software for a long time, it was just hack-y one way parsing and conversion to HTML (hence why even if you did previously use BBCode, as soon as you pressed reply, it would convert and be gone for forever). I'm not very surprised that they've now phased out even bothering to convert it, they've been trying to kill it for a very long time. In theory, a browser userscript by way of e.g. Tampermonkey could parse and convert your BBCode tags just like how the forum used to, but...honestly, I've just gotten used to highlighting and hitting CTRL+b and CTRL+i and CTRL+u for the three basic font modifiers. Strikethrough, with no hotkey for it, is the annoying one.
  26. I'm on Xbox and I soft locked myself while exploring the garden. Was exploring with a friend and we saw scanner in the green house so I scanned and we were suddenly fighting the stranger and her Broodmother. We were kinda like, "that was weird" and went along exploring and eventually started the story quest. Finally got to the end where I have the lime seed but now we see what we did wrong. The tree is already planted so I can't progress with the storyline now D:
  27. Maybe add some new spiders like the bolas spider or something unique like it
  28. 😅 Yeah it's a stressful setting. I remember when my sister was doing her internship stuff in Boston area. She came home to visit once and looked like she'd lost 20 pounds (she's 5' 10" and wasn't overweight to start with). That was also when her attitude shifted dramatically for a while, towards the negative. My mother worried about her a lot.
  29. As cold-stunned invasive iguanas fall from trees, Floridians scoop them up for killing Temperatures in Jupiter, Florida, where the 27-year-old social media star lives, had dipped well below 50 degrees, as a cold front swallowed much of the East Coast in snowfall and record-breaking low temperatures. As flurries fell on parts of the state, residents braced for the inevitable: Cold-stunned green iguanas — one of Floridians’ most reviled invasive pests — began to lose consciousness and fall out of trees. The dry, scaly deluge is a familiar forecast in those parts. These cold-blooded reptiles’ nervous systems shut down when temperatures dip into the 40s and below. They become paralyzed and fall from their leafy perches. This time, for some unlikely conservationists, as well as state officials, that meant killing season. ... am gonna admit to having recollected the relevant simpsons episode HA! Good Fun!
  30. Dear Obsidian, I am writing to you from France to share an observation that I hope will not fall on deaf ears. There is one criticism that my compatriots repeatedly voice about your latest games: the lack of full French dubbing. In recent years, and I don't think my country is an exception, we have seen a rapid decline in reading, both in French and in foreign languages, for well-documented reasons I won't detail here However, and here's the issue, Obsidian's trademark, and the reason we love you, is precisely that you produce games rich in narrative content and therefore full of dialogue (which is certainly not to my displeasure, for those who might wonder about the motivation behind this post). I strongly suspect that many of my contemporaries dislike your games simply because they are not available in French, forcing them to read through tons of subtitled text (as their understanding of spoken English is also generally quite limited ; I am no exception in this regard🙄). For example, I know young people who loved Grounded but could never get into Avowed or The Outer Worlds 2, whose stories they found very “meh.” And for good reason: when I talked to them, I realized that they almost always skipped the dialogue sections! It's hard to appreciate the story under those circumstances! As such, and although I am an avid reader myself, I readily admit it's difficult to fully immerse yourself in a first-person game because of the constant disconnect between the words our ears hear and those our eyes read. Not to mention that at a certain age — which is getting younger and younger — nearsightedness and attention disorders come into play! In short, all this to say that, in my opinion, you would do well to carefully assess the loss of revenue when the question of including this dubbing in your future games arises (hopefully it will still arise!). Thank you for your attention and good luck ! Translated with Deepl.com (free version)
  32. I have sadly reached the end of my LoreRim\Skyrim journey. I defeated Alduin last night so the main quest is completed I had some major script issues progressing the quest to fight him but it finally all worked and I could complete the Dragonslayer quest As I mentioned previously overall its been the best single character open-world RPG I have ever played. I got to level 73 and I spent about 430 hours on the game which is the most time I have ever spent on any single player game I still need to complete the final battle in Dawnguard because I had some bugs so I left it for later There are many quests I can still do but I will stop playing on a high note. Once the main quest ends in games its never the same for me to continue from a motivation perspective But excellent overall experience and the game gets a solid 92/100 on the globally respected "BruceVC game rating system " 🐉

  34. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-02-03/xbox-studio-behind-grounded-outer-worlds-is-charting-new-path A good link summarizing Obsidians financial wins and disappointments from there 3 latest games and the failure to meet Microsoft targets They going to be making some real changes around development timelines
  35. Yeah, when people with no clue use AI for gathering "knowledge" about specialized and/or obscure stuff it can lead to absolutely bizarre outcomes. I guess arcane video game details, scattered all over forums etc. are pretty difficult to compose into something that's remotely decent info - and language barriers add another layer of potential weirdness. I like to use AI for generating graphs and diagrams from data - for publications and presentations and such. It's pretty good at that and spares me a LOT of time. But it's easy to spot when it screws up (which happens occasionally) because I know what it's supposed to do (because I could do it myself if I took the time). I also used AI to collect certain posts on social media which could contain disinformation from malign actors - because that's much faster and cheaper than letting a bunch of people do it (who also hate it). But it's just giving you alerts and the link to the content in question so that an expert can have a look and maybe act on it (which they like much better). I would never trust AI to do something I couldn't assess myself.
