What did you do today?

Had to go to the vet to see what the lump on my eldest dog is, hopefully is not a tumour or anything. Have the rest of the day off to clean and do the backlog of laundry, can download Battletech in the meantime.

I was dragging a bit during my prep period, but I decided to throw on my running shoes and hit the track. Students were doing 400's, so I decided to see how many I could keep pace with or pass during a little 5k workout. I ended up getting my personal best mile time of 6:20 and clocked a solid 23:11 for the 5k. I feel a lot better now. :)

Went for a checkup today at the doctors office, and there was a nurse-in-training there that took my bloodpressure (170/122 for those interested) and bloodsamples. My arm looks quite worse for wear, she missed a few times but I expected that. She read my BP as a top value of 123 though, and said she couldn't hear the diastolic pressure. I liked her though, she had the coolest name ever, and I **** you not; Ninja.

Fingers crossed for your dog's health! Also, give him plenty of good boy belly rubs.

Are those good numbers for blood pressure? :p

Not sure if serious but if so then no. That's about just shy of explosive decompression in normal atmosphere. ;)

180/110 would be considered a medical emergency.

I installed a Cooler Master Hyper 212X on my PC and got rid of the stock AMD cooler of my FX8350. I chose that cooler because it is compatible with both AM3 and AM4 so if i get a Ryzen later i can keep the cooler. it took me over an hour to make the swap because to install it i had to pull the entire mobo out of the box and change the stock back plate with the one from CM, then put everything back in (including the annoying small wires for the power switch and the case LEDs... how i hate them).

The good thing is that the system stopped sounding like a jet about to take off and the temperature is on average 25C lower

The true nature of freedom is such, that the human mind is unable to comprehend it, so we make a cage and name it freedom in order to give a tangible meaning to what we dont understand, just as our ancestors made gods like Thor or Zeus to explain thunder.

All of Toronto is sad, apparently.  Some dude ran over 25 people, killed 10 on Monday.  Apparently was an incel type, I guess that shouldn't come as a surprise. At least he didn't get to die by a cop's bullet, so that's one bright spot.

I saw the video where they took him in and he kept asking to be killed but then just gave up as the cop got closer.

People are wanking over the cop's restraint when the cop just knew there was no gun. Toronto cops are just as likely to blast someone they don't need to as US ones, but Canadians need to brag about something.

Guy's truly an idiot too, if he just had a kitchen knife he would have gotten his wish.

a US cop would be more likely to just shoot and be done with it, then claim he saw a gun on the suspect

You could use it as a club, or perhaps a new handle replacement for some yard tool. What the hell makes French bread go stale after 5 hours anyway? I specifically avoid buying it because I cant even eat it before it goes bad.

I know, right? One minute, it's all delicious train-bread and then BAM! You're biting a rock.

I guess I'll have to reconsider my bread choices, too.

My wife is all about weird breads but I'm still on Wonder Bread with the occasional dalliance into Texas toast. I just went in the kitchen to check and my wife has 6 different breads. Russian rye, Jewish rye with pumpernickel, ciabatta, French, sourdough, and some weird super dense dark loaf of something with nuts and seeds and bits of neutron star.

Bakery in town makes decent buns and pullman loaves, I chuck them in the freezer until needed

So, I'm something called an ELM program. That stands for Entry Level Masters in nursing. The short'n skinny? I got my BAs a long time ago and I'm going into nursing after having lived a life of complete uselessness. The first part of the program, about 17 months, is licensure and ends in a BSN. Four semesters of class followed by one 16 week semester which is nothing more than studying for Kaplan in preparation for the NCLEX (although there's a 7 week period at the beginning for residency). During the last 9 weeks, after residency is over, you can start on your MSN studies although you're required to work in a clinical settings (ie hospital) while you're getting your MSN or they boot you out of the program. Altogether, it's a pretty tough program. Not the hardest academics I've faced, but it's pretty taxing on my aging grey cells nevertheless.

Anyhow, today I took my last final: pathophysiology. First, let me get bragging out of the way. 4.0, baby! I know I know! Who cares about grades in the long run? Probably no one, but why not get good ones if you need to get them at all?

Second, and more importantly, other than playing some sort of walking sim with the wife, I've been gameless for months. Hell, I didn't even play that until the end of last week when I knew I only had Patho on my plate. Today, I'm going to join my glorious gaming brothers and load up something new to play! Hot damn!

Thanks! I know I'm supposed to know that but I've never had problems with blood pressure so I've completely forgotten what numbers are good or bad.

That sucks then, Az. Hope it gets better.

Thanks :) I'm seeing a specialist on monday, then I might finally get to know what is actually wrong. No matter what pills I've taken they haven't been able to meaningfully lower my bloodpressure or raise my potassium levels. Went to take another bloodpressure yesterday and had 150/100, and Ninja got a second chance of stabbing my arm. This time it went much smoother, she got it the first try and didn't leave much of a bruise either.

Work is being a bitch above normal though, so I reckon the BP was a reason for that, yesterday I had this fatalistic feeling of dread in expectation for the day. One colleague is ill and one is having a couple of vacation days so we're working at 50% of the workforce with the same expectations of performance. We're also not allowed to work alone due to the risk of injuries so we can't take any breaks... Fun day ahead.

It's snowing outside, right now. It's nearly May.

Quote

How I have existed fills me with horror. For I have failed in everything - spelling, arithmetic, riding, tennis, golf; dancing, singing, acting; wife, mistress, whore, friend. Even cooking. And I do not excuse myself with the usual escape of 'not trying'. I tried with all my heart.

In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.
