Why has elegance found so little following? Elegance has the disadvantage that hard work is needed to achieve it and a good education to appreciate it. - Edsger Wybe Dijkstra

Didn't Tillerson keep calling Trump stupid? Probably had something to do with it, I imagine. I don't think you should be calling the president stupid, especially as a fed, but these are pretty rough times...

Western Oby? What is that exactly?

oby was the Russian oby. Ben is the Western oby. And Qis was the Malaysian muslim oby.

And they all loved Bruce, and Bruce loved them. Alas, oby and Qis disappeared and so there's no happily ever after for him.

edit:

Well it is one of those stories. Kind of like why the love-emoticon is called wub, not wuv like one would expect. That dates back 17 or so years. Speaking of wub, does anyone know where 'Tess is up to these days?

Yeah I did find it a bit odd when I received such compliments from Qistina..... for some reason I battled to believe it

It's beyond any doubt Trump will be re-elected.

Unless the Democrats can present a decent opponent (unlike Bernie or Hillary) or if the libertarian can pull a miracle out of our asses.

I'm kinda swaying that the Democrats are going with a black candidate that way it's a win win for them and their agenda if they win OR lose.

If they don't find a way to parry Trumps attacks effectively (see the Republican debates), then yeah, Trump could end up winning.

I think Sanders would be pretty good opponent, and they'd be competing for similar bases, only problem is that he's a self labeled socialist, which the Republicans would latch onto like a starving vampire.

However, three years is practically an eternity in politics, so, it's impossible to predict how it may play out since the Democrats are in pretty bad shape.

Sanders has 2 things going against him. As u said self labeled socialist and the other is a majority of his fanbase.... doesn't vote.

Sanders message is not going to play well outside of the bluest of blue states. And even there the appeal is limited to the idealists who don't understand that, absent some radical changes, the US is just not set up to have the kind of economy they want to build.

I actually don't think Sanders should run in 2020, at least from what I'm seeing at the current moment. I really don't see him getting passed the media, nor the bastion Clinton hive which will forever use him as a litmus test for the wrong type of liberal. (The economic, not identitarian type.)

The dems should either throw Biden back in, or start looking to Gabbard. But both is asking for a lot, so I'd not be surprised we get Trump again or even a different Republican depending on how the GOP tries to play things.

I get the sense to left shift under post-Bush is mostly over, and that enough of the non-voting critical mass of young leftists are becoming moderate, conservative, libertarian and voting. The internet has a bias of reporting the feelings of LA, and not so much the rest of America. So we'll get a corporatist from the Dems that speaks to LA mentalities, and we'll see how the GOP organizes when Trump enters his first, and hopefully only lame duck period.

He'd become a lame duck when the Democrats retake Congress.

As for who the Dems field in 2020, they should do the entire bench instead of trying to pre-choose the winner as they effectively did in 2016. Wouldn't be real surprised if Trump wins again (assuming he didn't get impeached by then) given the bad state that the Dems are in and it'll take more than two election cycles to get a healthy bench back.

not necessarily. Look at the the south, especially the south east along the coast, of France.... divided between Mélenchon (red) and Le Pen (dark blue).

And this is no speciality of this election. Those regions were communist, and literal communist, strongholds in elections for a long time; now the far right is gaining votes there as well. So why shouldn’t a reverse effect be possible in the US; deeply republican territory falling to the left. The question might not be wether sanders is too radical, but wether he is radical enough.

Trump appeals to his “forgotten men and women” because he gives them a dignifying identity when their lives lack any form of dignity. This is a longing socialists and communists could, and often do, easily appeal to as well.

You guys can forget Tulsi Gabbard. Unless there is a complete change in Democrat Party leadership she is dead to them. She supported Sanders from the get go and did not switch back to Clinton after. The Republicans may have an elephant as their symbol but it's the Dems who never forget. There is a real good chance she will be facing a strong primary challenge in 2018 with the blessing and backing of the DNC.

Seriously, if Zuckerberg runs for the Dems and Trump for the Repubs; a third party commie might actually have a chance.

The closest thing we have to real communists here are the Greens. And they are not all that close. The actual US Communist Party has endorsed the Democrat Presidential Candidate every year since 2000 until last year. They made no endorsement last year.

IIRC Bernie did well with the rural white. That said, I don't think he should run again.

I'd support Gabbard in a heartbeat but you're right, she seems to be reviled in the Clinton wing of the party

Yeah, there's no chance of areas like the deep south switching to vote Bernie or whatever. Unlike commies the average southern voter is religious and won't vote for a godless commie- and even the democrats there preferred Hillary to Bernie by a large margin. France also had 4 candidates not two. That effect did happen in the US last election, it just happened in a near direct parallel to how it happened in France, ie you had traditional left voters in the rust belt voting Trump. The main difference being that many did so after Hillary was dumb enough to tell them they were irrelevant and offer them no hope while still expecting their vote. Stupidest mistake in a campaign replete with them.

Her basically ignoring Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania may have been worse than her deplorable comment. One of the regions where blue collar work could be most responsive to labor opportunities if the dems to put people to work as opposed to stuffing their ivory towers full of more positions.
