RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS - DA REAL DEAL

I'm not a big release day person (i.e. it's extremely rare that I have to play a game on release), so Denuvo doesn't really bother me if it's eventually removed: by the time I get around to a game, even if it might pose a problem, it'll no doubt be removed by then. And for as long as it's not removed, it's unlikely I would purchase it, so that rather takes care of itself. For people that pay full price to experience a game on release day or near then, I can imagine how improperly implemented DRM schemes could be quite annoying.

I have a problem with it but I've also had several bad experiences with my legally purchased games randomly quitting on me because it thought it detected some tampering. Andromeda was the latest of these.

Isn't that the one that didn't let you run Cheat Engine? On a singleplayer game? Into the garbage can it goes, and never will it return.

How I have existed fills me with horror. For I have failed in everything - spelling, arithmetic, riding, tennis, golf; dancing, singing, acting; wife, mistress, whore, friend. Even cooking. And I do not excuse myself with the usual escape of 'not trying'. I tried with all my heart.

In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.

Except for online games, what I usually do is purchase the game, and then download and play the superior pirated version. Sadly, with Denuvo that is pointless because "the scene" has found it's easier to defeat Denuvo by sidestepping it rather than removing it outright. Which means I'm out of luck, and the publisher is out of a sale. Win-win, right? Wait...

I had that issue without CheatEngine so I never even tried using it

Heh. There was rampant online cheating enabled by CE scripts that were extremely easy to obtain. And then legit users get shot down for non-existent "tampering".

You dirty pirate, you.

And naturally every performance problem you have on your GT1030 running Assassin's Creed is the fault of Denuvo. No further evidence needed!!

Anyone who says that additional layer of code on top of the base package of software does not have any performance impact is either liar or Fortran god. And I highly doubt that in this case, the latter statement is the more probable one...

It's nothing to do with the graphics card anyway, ACO is putting high load even on to 16 thread R7s* and is murdering Kabylake or less i5s like Chinggiz Han with the mother of all hangovers. Up until this year i5s were considered absolutely fine for gaming, there's no way that Ubi is deliberately excluding them and they'd never aim for game release targeting only i7/r7 owners as that's a small proportion of gamers. It's also dreadfully unbalanced, because the CPU load is in some cases so heavy that changing graphics presets has very little effect on actual performance- because it's the CPU bottlenecking, not the video card; which also makes the 1030 reference spurious. It's almost certainly due to the DRM implementation as that would be one of if not the last thing added, so they'd only become aware of the problem at or near release and have a choice between fixing it via no DRM or releasing with poor performance- no doubt as to which Ubi would pick there, even without the evidence.

*It's currently one of the oddest releases ever, since it's giving ~70% load on 16 thread r7s and near 100% on anything below that, but also won't work on some threadripper/ i9s as they have too many threads. Ironic. Finally a game that uses lots of threads heavily, but then it won't work if there are too many.

Fair enough but Denuovo was removed from multiple games by now.

The performance impact was nowhere as dramatic as you make it out to be.

It really depends on the PC. If a steramer or reviewer says, that the performace boost is negligible, it´s because they are using top notch stuff. Unfortunatelly very few gamers are able to have 12k EUR computer as pewdiepie. So the loss of performance for them is much more notable...

Interesting changes to WoW. Level scaling is in all zones, flexible expansion order so you can skip Outland ?

They need to do something else with the Overwatch world. I like all the characters and the setting but have little interest in the genre.

I keep looking at it and thinking "this is so cool!" But then I remember it's just a 6v6 FPS and my interest immediately dies again.

If it had 32 player modes, I'd probably be all over it. The only way I can get into Titanfall 2 is all the little NPCs to shoot at.

Or 12v12 like TF2, it would be perfect.

I bought it and played a ton of it near launch, but it quickly fell off after the first 4 months.

Why do you guys think it'd be better with bigger teams ? What they need to do is disable all forms of communication in game. Bunch of ****ing subhumans play it.

WoW Classic - official vanilla server and F2P StarCraft 2

Also a new Overwatch hero

and this..

Putting the "War" back in Warcraft... again? Much original, such wow, something something or however that meme goes. ;)

I'd be more excited for the expansion if Blizz had not made a habit out of quietly dropping half of the features announced for a new expansion. But yay, they now can morph terrain in real time now. That'll be all over the expansion, like rushing rivers were all over the Broken Isles in Legion.

I think I'll sit this one out like I did with WoD and everything on Pandaria after the launch.

No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering.

Or allow private servers.

Or a genius innovation would be to sell your own servers to for private administration. That way select servers can cultivate a certain expectation of play. Good CS:S/TF2 servers back in the day were dreams to play on. Basically non-existent these days.

Call of Duty: WW2 has a mission to watch people open loot boxes (Eurogamer.net)

A mission that tasks you to watch someone open loot boxes?

"Howdy! We have the new COD game delivered right to your door for juniors birthday! What's that? He doesn't know how to gamble?! We have a mission that specifically teaches junior everything about that, all he needs to do is watch!"

Glad I decided not to reproduce...

There used to be a signature here, a really cool one...and now it's gone.
