I think you got it wrong, they are not thin skinned. It wasn't about the joke, it's about causing damage.

True it's only one case, but private insurance tends to be much more permissive than government since private can be sued. Edit: She hasn't really proved her accusation against Obamacare either, since it's still private insurance unless you get the expanded Medicaid.

They dress in black and often remove their helmets, taking advantage of a loophole in UK policing policy which says officers will not give chase to anyone on a scooter because of concerns the rider might fall and suffer injury or death.

Edit: I look forward to when the new mayor of London announces a policy that stopping a beheading is not allowed since the beheader might cut himself.

Which would be the problem if Oro was correct. But only online alt-right 4chan trolls and those run by them like Breitbart and Stormfront think in those terms and the truth is both historically and contemporary, the right is traditionally the censor moreso than the left. Comic books, TV, anti-christian content, violent video games and 'unpatriotic' messages like this have ALWAYS caused the right to throw these hissy fits. Maybe Americans forgot about every right-wing whingefest about criticizing Bush being 'un-American' because Obama existed for a bit but I didn't. These are the people who tried to get people fired for 'not supporting the poor troops' if someone made a joke about Bush's hair. If anything, the last couple of years of left activity is closer to what Oro describes than Trump's safespace craving fanclub. Ohnoes someone critized the Pres, ohnoes a musical cast was rude to a redneck politician. Whine whine whine bitch bitch bitch but the left is the side that can't take a joke. Ha!

Left has opposed religion in work places and public areas such as 10 commandments in court houses, Christmas (nuff said), etc. Now the left is pushing for religion and the customs to be allowed in public areas such as Muslims religious garbs that are usually against work code and to pray openly with the right opposing.

 

So yes elrond is right because now both sides are trading targets and tactics, and each is using the other sides method against them.

In Indonesia popular nationalism has a lot to do with islamism because it's a muslim country which has religious minorities and those minorities are often involved in separatist movements, eg in Ambon.

 

There's plenty of use of populist nationalism and islamism anyway- just look at Erdogan in Turkey, perfect description of him and the AKP.

Indonesia is culturally, ethnically, and religiously diverse. Its constitution and government is nominally secular. The national motto is translated as "Unity in Diversity."

 

Indonesia is the fourth largest country in the world by population --sandwiched between the US and Brazil. It's composed of hundreds of thousands of islands with hundreds of languages and dialects spread across three thousand miles East to West among hundreds of ethnicities. Its national language is essentially a conglang invented to serve as a middle ground. 85% Islam, 10% Christian, maybe 2% Hindu and Buddhists and the rest composed of other religions.

 

That said, hardline Islamists have been gaining power and influence since the fall of Suharto in the late 90's. Suharto was a secular authoritarian who ruled harshly but kept dissent in check and under control. What happened after Suharto was toppled? Mass riots and violence targeting the Christians and Chinese minorities.

 

Not that the Chinese and Christians haven't been clean. They were strong supporters of Colonial Dutch rule for 300+ years - attaining ranks of privilege and wealth. A disproportionate number of the better educated, wealthiest Indonesians are Chinese and/or Christians. They own the most profitable businesses and control the banks. They sought protection from the most influential politicians and local police chiefs. They probably contributed to the corruption facing most politicians ---Chinese Christians don't have political power, but they had wealth -- and that kept them protected.

 

Now we have hardline Islamist factions spreading nativist, nationalistic, Islamic propaganda and openly targeting the Chinese and Christian minorities -- as they are the OTHERS. Nevermind they've been in the country for more than 400 years. The current President is a popular moderate and ally of Governor Ahok, but even he couldn't swell the populist, Islamist mob that turned public opinion against Ahok (who was a popular and reformist anti-corruption champion) and ultimately led to his "blasphemy" conviction. His crime? For saying in a campaign rally that his opponents were misleading voters by saying the Quran prohibits Muslims from voting for non-Muslims. The court essentially ruled that it was indeed blasphemy for him to say that the Quran did not disallow Muslims to vote for non-Muslims.

 

So this leads us back to this. Propagating dogmatic zealotry in a rising tide of nationalistic/nativist populism in a non-homogeneous country is bad. Mob majority rule at the expense of minority rights is very bad no matter where in the world.
