Keyrock Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 DiRT Rally lives up to the hype. That game is freakin' intense, and quite hard, as it should be (turns out, rally racing is really hard). Bunch of different events, tons of different cars in a whole bunch of classes, and really good physics with tons of customization options. Plus, it runs really well. Malcador Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 Cosmonautica game is shot as I took a mission to ship porno that was ill advised so my finances are ruined. I think I'll just tell myself I was bored of the game anyway, rather than it being me giving up. 1 Why has elegance found so little following? Bartimaeus Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 Snake Pass. ...It's a platformer where you play as a literal snake. No, really: http://store.steampowered.com/app/544330/Snake_Pass/ It's actually pretty decent, and not actually as hard as I thought it would be (...although note that I have played both Octodads and a little of Surgeon Simulator already). I'm about halfway through (and having found everything). Worth $20? ...Yeah, if you like this sort of thing. 1 Quote How I have existed fills me with horror. SonicMage117 Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 The Banner Saga for now. Then Abzu later tonight - super excited because I love ocean themed games and I also love games where you can't die! Maybe I'll pick up Alan Wake later tonight because it's dirt cheap. Just what do you think you're doing?! You dare to come between me and my prey? Katphood Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 Decided to try out the Metroid Prime Trilogy since I had bought it earlier during a sale and man...friggin' AWESOME! The last time I played the game was with the gamecube controller and while it was fine, playing the game with the Wii motion controls is just crazy. This is one game that does an amazing job at utilizing motion controls. I can't wait to finish Metroid: Zero Mission and start the Metroid Prime Trilogy. There used to be a signature here, a really cool one...and now it's gone.
Malcador Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 Started with Alan Wake, my decrepit reflexes make combat harder than it should be. Keyrock Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 (edited) I wound up buying DiRT Rally as the free trial was coming close to expiring (the sale is still active for another day+). Freakin' fantastic game, absolutely worth the full $60 price tag and flat out highway robbery at $18. This might be Codemasters' best racing game ever, and that's really saying something, considering Codies has been making racing games for some 30 years. It's definitely their best racer toward the sim end of the spectrum since the glory days of Collin McRae Rally and TOCA. It's the most fun I've had with a racer in many many years, the last time I can remember experiencing this much joy playing a racing game was Burnout Paradise (which was a completely different type of racing game). SonicMage117 Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 (edited) I bought Alan Wake and The New Nightmare but haven't tried it. Maybe tomorrow (Getting too late for tonight). Hurlshort Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 I think I am getting close to the end of my Prey run. This game has done a fantastic job of leading me along. You rarely encounter anyone other than corpses for the first 2/3 of the game, so when you start to meet people, it's quite a shock. There is also a lot of choice here. 2
Starwars Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 Trying out some Battle Brothers. Seems like a really fun game though I think I will probably get bored sooner or later. I don't think I'm quite the target audience for these types of games, it's the same with X-Com. I see others play and talk about these games and they always talk about the connection they feel with their characters and how much it hurts when the particular character dies and blablabla... I'm not like that at all, the unique characters never "emerge" for me, it's just... a blur of different characters. Wish I could get into that part of it more. 1 Listen to my home-made recordings (some original songs, some not): http://www.youtube.c...low=grid&view=0
GhostofAnakin Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 Picked up where I left off in my previous play-through of Torment Tides of Numenera. WDeranged Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 Having a pretty good time trawling through Old World Blues. Not done this DLC since release so I'd forgotten what a ball buster it is. But I finally got my hands on a few decent weapons and I'm starting to bring suffering to the lobotomites. 1
Malcador Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 Still enjoying Alan Wake, monster fights are a bit tedious but that bulldozer fight was interesting. If someone hadn't said they were inspired by Twin Peaks, I never woulda caught on.. I've just started and I really enjoyes what little I've played so far. Katphood Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 Mad Max. The game is awesome as long as you are driving the Magnum Opus but as soon as you leave the car... Wish hand-to-hand combat and shooting was a bit more fun. There used to be a signature here, a really cool one...and now it's gone.
Vaeliorin Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 I wound up buying DiRT Rally as the free trial was coming close to expiring (the sale is still active for another day+). I tried the demo, and couldn't stay on the track for more than 30 seconds...granted, I haven't played a racing game since Gran Turismo 3 on the PS2, and I'm guessing that's considered an arcadey racing game (I don't really know anything about racing games.) Suffice it to say, I did not purchase it, though that's no fault of the game. Been playing (and just finished) Darksiders. I've had it forever (well, at least since 2012) but I'd only played it for 3 hours before the last couple days. It wasn't what I was expecting when I bought it (I was expecting more brawler than puzzle platformer), but I really enjoyed it (though I'd probably have hated it if I didn't have a walkthrough nearby for whenever I got stuck...I'm not very observant, and don't like the 3-D Zelda games.) People have complained about the Warmastered edition (which is what I played) but I only had two problems. Once I glitched through a wall and fell out of the level, and the game froze during one boss fight (the one that starts when you put on a mask.) I will say that the final boss fight(s) were pretty disappointingly easy. I was all stocked up on healing items and didn't have to use any. Still, the story was surprisingly good, and I'll admit that it had a number of twists that I didn't see coming. Took me 23 hours to beat, which if I'd paid $50-$60 for it would annoy me, but I'm pretty sure I bought it during a Steam sale for about $5. Now I've started on Darksiders II, which in many ways is more my sort of game so far. I only had to look up one thing in the first dungeon (because why would I think an uncontained explosion would push in a lever?) I'll probably keep a walkthrough on hand to find hidden stuff (because I don't enjoy spending hours on end searching for that one ledge you can jump to, and I sure as heck won't remember everything I couldn't get to until I get the right tool five dungeons down the road.) Still, seems pretty fun. and I've already used my wrath powers more in 3 hours than I ever did in the first Darksiders. The camera seems a bit worse than the first one, or at least enemies seem a bit harder to keep track of, but it's not too bad. I initially thought the platforming was less annoying than the first one, too, but all the ways Death can move have resulted in me more than once moving in a direction I didn't intend. Every single death I've had has been from fatal falls. Huh...the more I talk about it, the worse it sounds, but I really am enjoying it.
Tale Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 I finished Horizon Zero Dawn yesterday. I think the story was simply brilliant, but I apparently have no tolerance for these open world games anymore. I gave up on a bunch of the menial junk quests and collectibles about halfway through and rushed the story. And I still got tired of listening to the characters blather about their silly sundoms and lost loves. Also I need an intervention. The only question is exactly what kind. SadExchange Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 I have ordered a bundle for the Nintendo Switch which includes Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, a pro controller and case, and it should be here by Monday. I'm actually pretty excited. Been focused on work too much lately and am genuinely excited for something new including all the good things I'm hearing about Zelda, especially on the go. Also, pretty excited about the prospect about Mario Kart with the kids, due to the smaller controllers, and easy controls. Heck, even my non-gamer wife might give it a go for sure. I will say, from reading Tale's post, i will say openworld gaming has become quite stale recently, but I'm still optimistic about Zelda, again, due to what I've read, and being able to have easier access to it when I want, being portable, plus from what I've heard, seems a little more casual in some ways and better in bits. Again, cautiously optimistic. I'll post more about it when I receive it next week.

Keyrock Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 I've been playing a lot of HITMAN, mostly doing the escalations. For those not familiar, escalations give you new targets to assassinate in existing levels, sort of like the elusive target missions, but not quite as punishing (you can't save during the mission, like with elusive targets, but you can attempt the mission again if you get killed, unlike with elusive targets). Each escalation contract has 5 stages, the first stage is usually fairly straightforward (some are definitely harder than others), then with each successive stage they add challenges (extra targets or objectives, complications, restrictions on what you can and can't do, etc.) Mainly, I want to unlock most of the starting locations and items, which will give me more options when attempting stealth assassin runs on the main missions where I have failed to get stealth assassin thus far. Doing the escalations is a good way to do some of the challenges for each area and earn mastery points for unlocks while having different targets and challenges and not simply running through the main missions again and again. melkathi Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 I started on FO4 since I got it 50% off. I think so far I have spend more time trying to get mods to work for nicer textures than actually playing. The game told me I need to craft beds. So I was confronted with the whole settlement building system. Seems too much work. Will have to look for a mod that simply adds the settlements all build. No way I'll bother with trying to fit things in between ruins, rubble and everything else that is in the way. Unobtrusively informing you about my new ebook (which you should feel free to read and shower with praise).
