Anything Eldar-focused would be neat, actually. Or Dark Eldar. Or just... Not centered on the Imperium.

Yeah, considering how that might just give rise to another god of Chaos I'm just going to classify that post as heresy. Expect a friendly visit from your local inquisition.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

Not only that; there would appear to be pretty significant story advancement for them in the pipe (on top of Cadia having been blown the 'eff up):

“Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. But these same philosophers have rarely noted that the citizen in question simultaneously loses another right, one just as basic and perhaps even more vital for his conception of himself as a civilized human being: the right not to kill.”

"The chancellor, the late chancellor, was only partly correct. He was obsolete. But so is the State, the entity he worshipped. Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete."

EA plans to release a 10-hour trial of Mass Effect: Andromeda for Access subscribers.

The hefty trial of BioWare's sci-fi action RPG comes out on 16th March - five days before the full game comes out on 21st March in the US (it's 23rd in the UK).

so that's more of a marketing tool than a way to gather feedback... too bad

Well what else? At that point they won't be able to change the game anymore at all, so feedback would be kinda useless.

Agreed, I will say that it shows confidence in their product (at least the first 10 hours). It is a good thing that game companies have gained some self awareness and are realizing that people won't buy buggy games on release.

I would not complain about demo at any name. 10h demo for wider audience. Fair enought.

Definetly better than "we are not even giving press copies before release"

It may be still possible that hours after 10th are horrible, but there is also fair amount of games where first hours already light the red bulb.

Thumbs up to a demo, always great to see and welcome, especially these days, when it's so rare.

I thought it was a nice gesture, but then I found out EA Access is a paywall. Classic EA.

That said, 10 hours is plenty to get an idea of how good or bad the game will be, so that when considered in isolation is more than fair and I hope other games follow suit. I ragequit on ME3 in less than half that time, and played DA3 even less (through apathy rather than anger in its case). Demos would have saved me from both.

....maybe I shouldn't tell them that.

That's exactly why demos are so rare now. Plus you can't really evaluate an RPG with a short demo in most cases. Demos do make sense for smaller games that wouldn't get much attention otherwise though.

Well with demos there is a little problem - pirates have more time to crack exe file (if you are not stupid as us were when we released exe for Mafia 2 demo which was not encrypted, now that was a disaster xD)

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

Not sure if pirates are main reason for lack of demos, that is more of excuse from publishers.

There is enought reason from production point of view:

  • Need part of game which is very good. But you can understand it without everything.
  • Network speed vary, and casually downloading 5gb is not always possible.
  • Game cant be bugged at release (probably main reason)
  • Creating 1h official gameplay is cheaper and gives much more control

Feeling like repeating myself, but... I really want a good new SWAT game, with ballistic shields and dogs and all that jazz. :/
