Namutree Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 I have never played Halo, so allow me to apologize for failing this reference check I wouldn't expect people who even had played it to have every line memorized. I said to amuse myself more than an audience. "Good thing I don't heal my characters or they'd be really hurt." Is not something I should ever be thinking. I use blue text when I'm being sarcastic.
Mamoulian War Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 And one thing to remember... Well as long as you're not a refugee. Or brown. Or east european part-time worker, which took your job, which you would never even consider to apply for it, in the first place There is definitely some unnecessary and unsubstantiated criticism throughout the EU from some sectors of the population towards East Europeans and how " they taking jobs " I wouldn't take it seriously...I know thats probably harder to do than it may appear as it must get frustrating at times No it is not, I see the same in here. People are blaming everyone else for their lack of satisfaction with their lives. Here we have also lot of jobs, which Slovaks feel ashamed to work at. And still everyone is yelling "STOP IMMIGRANTS, THEY ARE COMING HERE TO TAKE OUR JOBS!!!" We have 10% unemployment rate, but are still not able to fulfill all of the needs on job market, due to disparity between what people can do and what they want to do. JadedWolf Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 (edited) Yes, in a comparison Wilders comes off better, but so do most people and it doesn't remove the serious and alarming similarities. And I'm not talking the bad haircuts. Well its that strange notion that after WWII and what Hitler did no one is allowed to be nationalist - because Hitler. Strange that noone have problem with socialists because Stalin Maybe because Stalin was not socialist And Wilders is not Nazi Wilders is not a Nazi, but like the rest of his ilk what he most certainly is, is a lying populist charlatan, offering no solutions but only lies about how he is going to "fix" everything - when in fact he hasn't got a clue. And in the meanwhile, he's willing to lie about anything else as long as it means he can draw attention to his one single issue. Case in point, one of Wilders' promises during election time was that he would stop the rising of the pension age (from 65 tot 67) that the then government had planned. Then after the elections, he has his party vote FOR the rising of the pension age because he could make a deal with other parties about immigration. Edit: it's actually not exactly as I remembered it, this link explains it better: http://www.dutchnews.nl/news/archives/2010/06/wilders_drops_commitment_to_65 TL:DR version, he propped up a government that needed his backing in able to exist in return for tougher immigration, while accepting that they would introduce laws that would increase the retirement age. Sorry, am at work so mistakes slip through. In fact, I think most of you right wingers who like him so much should take a look at his party program sometimes. Wilders' started out right wing (for Dutch standards) but these days in most things the party program is so left wing they mostly resemble the Socialist Party. With the difference of course that it's all based on "giving welfare back the Dutch, because foreigners". Not that he really cares about any of these things, because he's quite ready to promise anything as long as it gets him votes. But it's okay, the sort of people who vote for him are like sheep, that forget all about the broken promises again next election, and then again it will be the mantra "If we vote Wilders in power, he'll fix everything, because don't you know, he's the feckin' messiah". So yeah, when it comes to Hitler, that's what he has in common. Edited June 24, 2016 by JadedWolf Never attribute to malice that which can adequately be explained by incompetence.

Raithe Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 For a lot of the campaign proper, it looked like neither side really wanted to win it, fielding generally disliked politicians to make weak arguments and avoiding serious discussions on the issue. I think a key part of the result was the twenty or so years of drip, drip, drip anti-EU propaganda from several of our newspapers, which established a eurosceptic baseline for Leave to work from. "Cuius testiculos habeas, habeas cardia et cerebellum."

Rosbjerg Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 So yeah, when it comes to Hitler, that's what he has in common. Hitler was a pretty firm believer in solutions and getting things done though.. Unfortunately more so than most politicans today. I wish he had been as ineffective as our contemporary lot. No we need to recognize that populists are neither socialists nor fascists, they are however a huge problem for any democracy- and have been since Antiquity... As for fascists comparisons, Wilder is more akin to 'Il Duce' - all talk, loves propaganda movies, full of wannabe bravado and with an unhealthy fixation on irrelevancy. 1 Fortune favors the bald.
