The youngin' had his 9-month checkup this morning, and he's doing well.  He's a bit behind on his gross-motor skills, which you never like to see, but which makes taking care of him much easier-- for the moment, he still stays where we put him.  We've also been a little lazy about transitioning him to solid foods, which we got a bit of a lecture about.

I decided to take tomorrow off, even though it means that I'll be stuck watching him by myself for most of the day.  The current predictions are for the rain to switch to snow somewhere around midday, and I know enough about DC-area drivers to avoid being on the road for that, if at all possible.  Plus, it should allow me to do some more Thanksgiving prep.  My sister-in-law is hosting, but I'm the most enthusiastic cook in the family, so I've volunteered to do most of the heavy-lifting.  Tonight I'll be coating the turkey with coarse salt for a "dry brine," and I ran out on my lunch break today to buy the stuff I need to make pies (1 sweet potato and 1 pecan).

Guess what? I'm in the whiskey business now! Sort of.... I joined an investment group to buy a minority stake in Short Mountain Distillery over in Woodbury. Usually I support whiskey makers the old fashion way... drink a lot of their products. Now I'm trying a new way to go.

Usually small start ups with limited capital don't make sound investments but in this case it's family owned and family run and their overhead is pretty low and I love their marketing. Now I guess I should try a bottle of their hootch and see what we see.

Congratulations!

Looks like they're still in the white-lightning phase of a start-up distillery (i.e., whiskey not yet ready, but selling moonshine or similar un-aged liquor).  Let us know when they've got a batch of bourbon ready for market and I'll give it a try if they distribute in my area.

It's going to be a while. Their first barrels of Tennessee small batch went into storage in 2011 and they have limited storage space. That is the main reason they were looking for partners is to build a storage facility. I think they are on to something but it will be a long time before this tree bears any fruit. Heck I'd have to drive all the way to Austin Peay to even get a bottle myself.

Does anyone else feel like they get browser-lag when loading YouTube-embed heavy pages? It kinda drives me nuts. I don't know if that's one of those SSD>HDD things, a Firefox issue, forum/YT scripting issue, just me, etc.

A recently repaired tooth has started to hurt a lot, doctor told me that the cavity was close to the nerve and that I might need a root treatment later if I'm unlucky.
Of course I'm unlucky but I hope the armed intervention of my body will be successful and my army of white blood cells steamroll the living crap out of those foreign invaders.

My browser chokes when I try to open the Music thread here, haven't tried it in Chrome. I assume it is Adobe's fault.

That's pretty much my husband's standard answer, as well.

Hm, a rather unscientific test here shows FF loads it a bit slower than Chrome (my FF has about 85 tabs open now).

Can I pry and ask how much you shelled out for this beast? I'm in the market as it were.

Try inhaling salt water. Heat a pot filled with water and normal salt and breathe the steam, the salty air will kill all surface germ in your trachea, bronchia and lungs. It also unblocks everything from mucus.

I don't mind admitting that I rather do almost anything rather than have steam inhalations when I can't ****ing breathe.

I've tried them before and it was like being suffocated to death in a Frenchman's armpit.

This a thousand times. Steam messes with my asthma something fierce.

Very strange, inhaling salty steam has always helped me with breathing, and in my youth I had MANY problems with my respiratory system. But every body is different.

Anyway, I'm already using my new PC, the SSD is awesome.  6 seconds and Windows 8 is up and running.  And the CPU temperature is constantly hovering around 37 Celsius. Can't wait to put the system through its paces, need to install my Steam games.

Attempted to make me some cooked eggs (post-exercise snack).

Took an egg. Squished it. Took another egg. Squished it. My third attempt failed because I only had two eggs in the fridge.

Conclusion: eggs suck as much as cleaning kitchen tables.

This is when you suddenly decide to make scrambled eggs.
