melkathi Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Oh for crying out loud. Closed the window. This time when I clicked the D3 shortcut instead of telling me it has to "optimize" it tells me it's installing battle.net beta launcher, then promptly gets stuck at 64% install. Screw this noise...maybe I'll uninstall everything first and try it that way. Just play Banished. TheChris92 Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 (edited) After finishing Stick of Truth I suddenly got fixated on RPGs again - JRPGs & Western alike, mostly western, so I'm trying to finish up a couple, Alpha Protocol (again), Origins (15th time), Bloodlines, KOTOR 2 and maybe trying out Planescape for the first time to see what all the fuss is about. Aside from that I've also played Crusader Kings 2 for a bit. Edited March 29, 2014 by TheChris92
LadyCrimson Posted March 29, 2014 Author Posted March 29, 2014 Uninstalled. Fresh Battle.net launcher installed. Click Options/Install D3. Pause it while doing something else for a minute. Hurlshort Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Just bought Hitman Absolution for a few bucks on Steam. I remember a fair amount of vitriol about it when it came out, but it had a pretty decent rating and I loved Blood Money, so it's worth a risk. 1

Labadal Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 More Dragonfall. I've learned a bit more about the companions. Some surprising but interesting pasts. I think that is why I prefer this over DMS with its not so interesting characters. Also about to finish Bravely Default's true ending. Think I only have the extra dungeon left.

I found him rather weak for a "dragonslayer" totem shaman, but he's second to none in a support role. It's funny because the character concepts don't really reflect their combat roles—bar brawler shaman is support, "medic" is melee specialist, "sniper" is a beast CQC point/breacher. The chicks are a bit bland character wise, what with the done to death baggage from the past thing etc. Leet haxxor dude... I just want to punch him in the teeth. - When he is best, he is a little worse than a man, and when he is worst, he is little better than a beast.

There should be a button that lets you bump your download to the top of the "queue", looks like a play button on a stereo (even though it's not actually doing anything else, though it might pick up an old WoW install if you ever had one on that PC and try to reinstall that as well, it did for me, even though I haven't had a WoW sub for a long time now) Still playing Diablo 3, kicked Belial's head in and well on my way to do the same to Azmodan. Also Act 3 is definitely superior to Act 2. Seems the stats on gear make a serious jump from lvl40-ish to lvl50-ish gear, like, wow... If the monsters also make such a jump there might be some tough fights ahead... 1
IndiraLightfoot Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Heh, certain teleporting hulks can be brutal at the end of Act 3, if they are Elites, that is. And in Act IV, there's a number of monstrosities that can hurt you pretty bad. Good luck with your further endeavours into D3. *** "The words of someone who feels ever more the ent among saplings when playing CRPGs" ***

The others, I like. I agree on their combat roles versus their personality/history. They don't fit that well. Nevertheless, they are very helpful. Uncle D has saved my behind several times and Glory's bleeding melee attack is really helpful. Eiger is used to cheese enemies.

Keyrock Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I'm getting ready to enter the Lighthouse in M&MX. I've done almost everything else I could do so far, save the Den of Thieves, but I'm holding off on that so that I can keep my freebie hireling that detects secrets for me as long as I can, on account of not having anyone in my party that can cast Whispering Shadows. Didn't help. WoW/Starcraft never on this O/S install. It was even giving me trouble just uninstalling the game. That borked "optimization" step seemed to mess stuff up. At any rate, I'm sure I could figure it out eventually, but having only a vague curiosity interest in the expansion (I hadn't bought the expansion yet, btw - good thing), it's just not worth spending hours and hours on for me. It's all deleted now. Heheh. Ended up not playing Banished either - I haven't for a couple days actually, besides glancing at a few map seeds. I keep staring at a map and thinking about what I'd do with it, but can't quite motivate to start. Yet ... I've had two dreams related to the game this week. Like my mind has to purge itself of all these city-design/metanumber crunching info/ideas before I can dive in again. Scary. “Things are as they are. GhostofAnakin Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Fallout 3 sucks for companions. The only companions available early on to me is Jericho, and because I'm playing a goody two shoes with a positive karma, he won't tag along with me. I need my pack mule, damn it. melkathi Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) Started an early age Dominion 4 game with all factions in it: 27 AIs and myself. For a huge map, that many factions still make for a rather hectic game. (Map size is 20 provinces per faction for a "large" map.) First Atlantis made a few attacks on my western coastal provinces. I am slowly creating an army with waterbreathing for when I have to counter-attack, though they have been quiet since those initial skirmishes. A good thing, as the Sauromatians launched an invasion from the north. Their heavy cavalry trampled my defenses and caught my Pretender God unprepared and banished him. Took a lot of priests a lot of praying call him again - for which I had to recall my prophet and the majority of my forces. That allowed the Sauromatians free reign over my northern provinces. That was until I send two forces north: my fir bolg prophet, leading an army of fir bolg and formorians - visible they draw the amazons' attention. At the same time, a nemedian champion leads a large unit of his people into the enemy held territory under the cover of powerfull glamours. After some heavy fighting, the Sauromatians have fallen back to their fortresses, but troops from Ur have joined the war with the banners of Yomi just north of amazon and west of Ur territories. And I have two more factions comming in from the south and east... So I'll have to fortify my dominion in the north, so I can react to the eventual incursions from the south. With a bit of luck I'll be able to completly surround Sauromatia and kill their pretender god by spreading my dominion into their provinces - can't exist if nobody believes in you Edited March 31, 2014 by melkathi Unobtrusively informing you about my new ebook (which you should feel free to read and shower with praise).
Enoch Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 With a new baby in the house, I needed a game that could be paused at any time and played one-handed if need be. And, hey, there's a new Crusader Kings 2 expansion out... (Other suggestions that fit these two criteria are welcome, particularly if they'll run on the Haswell i5 NUC I've got in the living room. CK2 involves a lot of squinting at the screen from the couch, and it's still a bit cold in the basement to bring Junior to hang out with me down there while I play games.) 1
