Woldan Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 The only time I was ''out'' was when an iron bar hit my head with the force and speed of a driving truck. Needless to say I prefer anesthetics with all their side effects over a head trauma. I gazed at the dead, and for one dark moment I saw a banquet.
Hurlshort Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 I was knocked out when they put a rod in my leg, and then when they pulled it out. I threw up quite a bit when I came out of it both times. I also had a pretty heavy serving of local when they did my knee surgeries, and ended up falling asleep for both of those.
Blarghagh Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 They put a rod in my arm when I was knocked out. Pulled it out when I wasn't. : /
Azdeus Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Was put under for when I tore open my leg and had to sew it together, also for an endoscopy and before getting my tetanus shot. I was quite unruly all those times. babaganoosh13 Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 (edited) Had a wisdom tooth pulled out today. My dentist believes mine to be exceptionally difficult to remove, and has opted to "monitor" the remaining one in the hopes it doesn't become a problem in the immediate future. Unlike the last round, I haven't had a debilitating bout of pain necessitating taking some oxycodone yet, and the swelling is imperceptible at the moment. Fingers crossed that stays that way. I had two of them right on nerve endings. I had to the option to see the guy locally, or pay a heck of a lot more for a specialist in Waterloo. If it was botched, the whole side of my face probably would have been paralyzed. I knew the guy locally, he was on my ball team at the time. I went to the specialist. - On a side note, my Best Man (Mike) had his wisdom teeth cause a bad infection one night, his neck was swollen and he couldn't breathe. The dentist who was on my ball team was the guy on call and saved his life. Mike will sing praises about how great he was. I just couldn't get past what he was like when he was with the team. Good guy, but man... EDIT: Oh yeah, I was put out for that operation. I worked all night, and had an appointment at something like 10:00am. I slept until they closed at 5:00ish. Gfted1 Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 I was gassed for my first knee surgery and like Hurlshot, threw up when I came to. For the second knee surgery I had a shot in the spine like they give to a women delivering a baby and watched the surgery on a monitor. That was freaky too though, being numb from the waist down. Agiel Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Had a wisdom tooth pulled out today. My dentist was surprised when I told him that the one who yanked my tooth as a kid didn't knock me out. Back when I was still in junior high ~2000-2001ish, my mom took me to this one relatively upscale dentist to have some teeth extracted. Of course, me being a big wuss I was shaking in my britches through the whole ordeal when one of the assistants came in and told me "Don't worry, our best *hand* extraction specialist will be taking care of you." I remember thinking to myself: "'Don't worry?' I have every reason to worry!" Indeed, some Brawn Hilda-type woman comes in the room, immediately holds me down, and simply pushes my teeth in until they give way. She does this for two more teeth. While this usually lasts for only 5 seconds per tooth, on the fourth she takes 3 minutes all the while I'm thrashing in the chair. Eventually she takes a look at the x-ray and says non-nonchalantly: "Oh, that was a permanent tooth." 1 Quote “Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. But these same philosophers have rarely noted that the citizen in question simultaneously loses another right, one just as basic and perhaps even more vital for his conception of himself as a civilized human being: the right not to kill.” -Jonathan Littell <<Les Bienveillantes>> Quote "The chancellor, the late chancellor, was only partly correct. He was obsolete. But so is the State, the entity he worshipped. Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete." -Rod Serling
Calax Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Part of it is that I'm rather hard to numb up, no idea why. So they numbed me up locally for my wisdoms, but one of em was so dug in that it was right on the nerve which wasn't quite numb when he was yanking. Just about broke my moms hand when he did it which made him realize "Probably not quite ready for that yet..." Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition! Kevin Butler will awesome your face off.
Walsingham Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 When i was a kid I had a problem with needles. But when I was ... I guess 16/17 I decided enough was enough. I was in for some travel inoculations and a blood sample. I forced myself to watch every single instant of the process, eyes not wavering one millimetre. Cured me instantly. What bothered me was needles in the abstract. In reality the whole thing is fascinating. That realisation changed the abstract and hey presto! "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp.

I can't stand it, feeling the needle going through the skin and then moving around underneath it. And this is despite having hundreds of bloodsamples drawn and shots taken. Raithe Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Hm, I lost most of my Saturday with a stinking headache, then woke up this morning with a snootful of semi-congealed blood. That's such a great start to a sunday. "Cuius testiculos habeas, habeas cardia et cerebellum."

Rosbjerg Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 This autumn has pretty much been the most stereotypical one ever - it's raining, windy and clammy all the time.. Come to think of it all the seasons this year were extremely stereotypical. Cold, dark and snowy winter, nice varied spring and warm and sunny summer... It's tooooo perfect! *skeptical glance* Fortune favors the bald.

Calax Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 I can be your brother! Workin all day, and got an angry email from my brother/mother about the possibility of me flying to California then driving to tuscon, because "It was supposed to be a me and dad thing" (From my brother) which led to her giving out a round of apologies. I am kind of ambivalent on it overall as it is because I don't want to fly, spend two days in a car, hang out for a day, repeat. I think after today I'm just gonna call and say "I decided to flop sides of the family for my summer/winter trips" even though NY is gonna be friggin COLD. Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition!
