What are you playing now?

Recommended Posts

My small group of guildies and I just beat our final Ascalonian Catacombs explorable dungeon path in Guild Wars 2. All we have left to conquer is... ARAH!  *shakes fist*

We tried it once before but it ended up taking 3 hours with us barely making it to halfway point. Damn you Giganticus Lupicus

Also, Guild Wars 2 just introduced musical instruments that you can play (though worse than in Lotro, says my friend)

Guess what was the first thing he said to me in chat after our run was finished?

"Nord, come to the Mists quick, someone is playing the Morrowind theme on the flute!!!"

I'm borderline hate-playing Thiaf at this point.  My god, Garrett must have killed 300 people by now, it's just an almost endless stream of violence.  The combat is decent enough and I'll give the game points for having fairly good enemy AI, but there are already a million other murder simulators out there on the market, some of them much better than this.  And make no mistake, that's what Thiaf is, a murder simulator.  By trying to appeal to a broader audience, the game has lost its niche.  As a Thief game it's garbage.  I'd borderline recommend Deadly Shadows over this for someone looking for a Thief experience.  As a murder simulator, it's solid, but there are many better choices on the market.  And QTEs...  I was never a fan of them before, but I was more tolerant of them than the majority.  At this point, I find QTEs almost as disgusting as snuff porn.  I'm looking forward to finishing the game so I can wipe it off my hard drive and never touch it again.

As far as I'm concerned, Garrett is finished, the series is dead.

Don't know whether Thiaf will have good AI; the murder simulator, QTEs, departure from the series' ethos and everything else seem to be pretty locked in though.

Got back into NV, playing with the Tale of Two Wastelands mod and suuuuuuuupeeeeeeeer sloooooooow leveling. Only drawback to it is the mandatory Fallout 3 character creation, but I suppose it's understandable since the point of the mod is to add F3's content to NV. They did a pretty good job balancing F3's content to make it more challenging/in line with NV's design ethics.

Also breaking the game in Civ V: BNW with Pocatello thanks to the Shoshone replacement for Scouts getting to choose the bonus obtained from ancient ruins, and the only limit is a turn number cooldown time, so it's all +20 culture, new technology, +1 population, +20 faith, +20 culture, new technology, +1 population, +60 faith, ad infinitum until you can't find any more ruins.

Managed to put in a few hours of SWTor last night. My Bounty Hunter is now only a few millimeters on the progress bar from reaching level 44. Way over what he should be for his progression in the story, but never mind that. Also got his crew skills up in the 400+ range, going towards 450. Since his crafting skill is cybertech, I can now manufacture mods for the other guys saving a lot of commendations and not to mention better equipment for the ships (grade 2, 4 and some purple stuff for beyond grade 5). Makes a few of the space missions a bit easier. Tattooine was great fun. Alderaan felt like it dragged on a bit. Ran into an area that looked harmless from the outside, but was full of level 55 wild life. Way to go... I ended up as canned cat food =]

Strike Suit Zero some more, wish I had some squad commands to order wingmen to cover me or assist my attacks (bomber mission where the fighters are off wanking somewhere highlighted this). Still, as close to a Freespace game as I've played in a while (not that close). Music is pretty top notch though, in my opinion.

Been playing through Borderlands 2 since I never beat it when I first bought, however the completionist in me has me wanting to complete every quest even if it says the reward is trivial, but I know if I do this, I'll never finish the game.  Other that that, started a Wizard in Diablo 3 since I never played one before whcih has been decent and finally picked up The Secret World and have finished installing and patching that up.

Modding is now good to go on Defender's Quest, so I'll be busy with that when the kids are in bed.

Civ 5.  NEW EXPANSION IS SO GOOD!

Will wait until that goes dirt cheap, still kind meh on the whole deal with V, but it is fun even every game I play just falls into "There is only war..."

I haven't played in a long time so I don't remember much.  I made it to 1955 before Egypt finally had enough wherewithal to attack England in my current game as Venice haha.

Yeah, it's Keyrock's post about Tomb Raider with Thi(e/a)f substituted for TR and Garrett substituted for Lara. Delayed shock reaction from "headshot: 30 XP" and similar revelations.

On more pleasant things, I'm playing Waking Mars which I'm liking a lot. Not surprising, having had a look at the credits and spotting a bunch of old LGS names. I actually fired it up just to make sure it worked OK (which it didn't, first time) and ended up spending a solid couple of hours playing, something which hasn't happened for ages.

Finished BioShock 2 and the DLC mission Minerva's Den.  After finishing the story, I found I liked it overall as much as BioShock 1, which wasn't my impression early on.  Still ranks behind Infinite in the BioShock series.

Decided to follow Hurlshot's lead out of curiousity and pick up a copy of Risen 2 in the sale, having a short poke at it now.

I also scooped up Risen 2 Gold, but I have to finish my hate-play of Tomb Raider first.  By that time it will almost be time for Shadowrun Returns and Call of Prypiat Misery 2.0, so I may not play I for some months.

I'm going through a bit of a "WD can't play games" period, it feels like wasting time...which is insane because I'm managing to waste my time in loads of other ways but there you have it

Currently I need to complete Arkham Asylum but my interest has trailed off, I'm mostly hanging on for nostalgia and the respectful use of the setting.  I'll probably pick up that Walking Dead DLC if it hits the sale, I could handle a bit of passive gaming.

Civ 5.  NEW EXPANSION IS SO GOOD!

I guess all the predictions before the base game was even released, that the game would only get good enough to stand on its own after the second expansion, is very much true then.

I bought both the base game pretty much on launch, and likewise Gods and Kings. Yet I only have a couple hours logged under the former, and none at all after the latter. I ought to be more sensible about these things, but I can't be. Only decision now is whether to buy digital or import a hard copy.

EDIT: I think this is my worst grammar-ed post ever. But I can't fix it satisfactorily so I'll just add this.

I haven't even bothered installing Risen 2, I'm going to try and get farther along with Far Cry 3 before I jump into something else.

I enjoyed Risen 2, it will remind you about the old Gothc games where you have an open world to explore and certain creatures you can't fight until you are more powerful

Ugh, I doubt I'm going to finish Tomb Raider.  I'm on the beach looking for Alex, however far into the game that is.  At this point, my hatred for this game has grown so strong it's pretty much overtaking any desire I have left to finish it.  I just want this crap off my hard drive and out of my life.

I had fun with Risen2, but then I must have become distracted by something else because I never finished it. Oh well....happens to me a lot.

Today I dug holes in Planet Explorers and spent time pressing "refresh" on the auction house of NW:Online until I got what I wanted.

Tomorrow I will dig more holes in Planet Explorers. I am going to turn the land into swiss cheese, until all the enemy animal spawns will fall down all the holes as soon as they spawn, unable to climb back out to bother me. Well, ok, not really, the world is too big, but if I had the time...

Load up sleeping dogs.  I am finding it fun in the early going.

Its a good game and does offer one of the interesting "living" cities you can explore. I like the way they motivate you to explore the city by placing items like the statues in various places. Oh and the martial arts are a nice change to using a gun in combat :)
